  1. Slick Chick (Gottlieb 1963) 1.3

Why is Slick Chick one of the Top 10 EM (electro-mechanical) games voted by players on IPDB (Internet Pinball Database)?

Is it the artwork featuring a barbershop quartet, showgirls wearing bunny ears and an apparently sauced Uncle Wiggily? Maybe.

Or maybe it is due to how challenging the game is. A gobble hole in the playfield center seems to be particularly nasty if you launch multiple balls onto the playfield. Watching fans who enjoy Slick Chick though, they talk about the two skill shots you need to dial in in order to roll over either the CHICK or the SLICK at the top of the playfield. Others say this is the ultimate nudge game and will reward your ability to finesse the ball. Young people seem to enjoy the simplicity of it.

Make sure you grab the beautiful backglass file from @hauntfreaks. It turns the table into pure art.

From @Cliffy Slick Chick-res-files are for desktop users in HD, 2K, 4K and UW (ultrawide) configurations.

The .res files in the zip are intended for desktop users of this version of Slick Chick and are named as such. However, they can certainly be used for  any other table running in desktop mode and uses a directb2s (b2s) with or without a fulldmd as long as the filename matches the tables filename.

They are configured to place the backglass on the right and the fulldmd to the left and are sized for a single player EM. Again they are good as templates for other sizes and locations as well. The # comment lines in the file explain what each line does.

Unzip the .res file that best matches your single monitor (desktop mode) to the same folder as the table. The b2s file also needs to reside in the same folder.
Delete the first 3 characters of the filename, ie, if the file you need is HD-Slick Chick (Gottlieb 1963) 1.3.res then delete the HD- so it reads Slick Chick (Gottlieb 1963) 1.3.res.
Remember, the .res filename needs to match the VPX table name exactly. The b2s filename also must match exactly so rename as needed.

It is assumed you already have a 2.0 or newer version of B2S Server installed.
    https://vpuniverse.com/files/file/12024-b2s-backglass-server/

If you want to use a b2s with a table that has built in desktop scoring I've made a tutorial showing how to do this here https://vpuniverse.com/tutorials/article/32-desktop-backdrops-adding-or-changing-the-basics/

Thanks to @JCalhoun and @hauntfreaks for help and encouragement. Super thanks to @jarr3 for modernizing and adding such great features to the B2S Server.
I'm always open to suggestions that will improve location and sizing, especially since I do not have a 4k or ultrawide monitor to test.
    Enjoy!

The late @loserman76 created this table, and over 200 others. The VPX community continues to polish and tweak the games he left us. Here is his original table:

  2. Star Action (Williams 1973) 1.1

Remember 1973? Pink Floyd’s, Dark Side of the Moon, Wings album, Band on the Run, William’s Star Action pinball machine…. No, not that last one? Here’s your chance to enjoy this table from over 50 years ago.

Star Action features a unique turntable (in playfield-center) that spins when you hit one of two posts (remind anyone of the lamp from Tales of the Arabian Nights?). Spin it to advance through the ten lights around its circumference to get Double, then Triple scoring. Wide flippers are a little more forgiving than the sometimes shorter variant you often see in older tables.

This version, 1.1, features beautiful plastics, playfield, apron — and when combined with a masterclass backglass by @hauntfreaks hopefully it makes for a top-notch EM (electro-mechanical) table worthy as an update to @loserman76’s VPX contribution.

Hold left flipper (shift) before game start for options menu. Options include:
5 ball or 3 ball play Reset high scores Change scoring values Enable/disable add a ball star mode
    Contributors include @Cliffy, @teisen, @hauntfreaks and @JCalhoun.

    “Aaaahhraaaaa!!”

This was a real team effort that spanned over a year. Special Force is an underappreciated, grubby, rowdy, 80’s war movie pin. Kinda feels like you got dropped into a bad version of Rambo (but in a good way!) We hope you enjoy.

  5. Star Trek LE Hanibals 4k Asteroid Mod 1.7

This table is base on the nice Star Trek LE table of freneticamnesic, a very nice work.

I have add 2 new asteroid, my first try to create 3D objects for an table.
On the original pinball game they are 2 to cover the spots and I missed them.

Additionally I update some lights, physics, and add the ball reflection for the game, because it looks like fantasic on this table.

Now it looks like very nice on my 4k virtual pinball and I hope you enjoy it

  7. Space Mission (Williams 1976) 1.1

Space Mission came out in the year of the U.S Bicentennial. I remember that year and can tell you that the air was heavy with patriotism and this pinball machine, featuring the U.S. Apollo spacecraft, hews closely to the zeitgeist of 1976. (Although it also features the USSR's Soyuz spacecraft - depicting an event, the Apollo-Soyuz rendezvous, that had occurred the year before in 1975).

Unusual features of this four-player, EM (electro-mechanical) table include a swinging target in the center of the playfield and the two ball kickers on either side of the flippers (watch people play the real table - they let the ball roll off the flipper into these kickers for extra points). Also, a spinner in the upper-left is fun to rocket through, and see if you can orbit the Super Bonus Advance in the upper-right.

The Space Mission table is (at the time of this writing) #4 in the top-10 for electro-mechanical pinball. The two-player version of this table is called Space Odyssey.

This is a community, EM table, originally created by the late Loserman76. We are indebted to him for, by my count, over 200 VPX tables.

My changes to Loserman76's table, this version 1.1, add Fleep sounds and new sound code. The table now plays much better on cabinets with SSF (surround-sound feedback).

  8. Sheriff (Gottlieb 1971) 1.2

It's a fascinating thing that the work you create, if shared, can outlive you. So it is for Jeff "Loserman76" Whitehead. We all have him to thank for his prolific work in creating EM games for VPX.

And so his title, Sheriff is seeing a lot of work by the community: Teisen modded, then GauGau... I have tweaked the sound code to incorporate Fleep's sounds and sound code. This improves the SSF (surround sound feedback) for flippers, etc.

As per GauGau's work, you can create a music folder called "Sheriff" with custom music, or see his Western-themed PUP pack.

  9. Super Orbit (Gottlieb 1983)

Gottlieb's Super Orbit! Lots of fun to play, with a varitarget, orbits, and lots of bonus opportunities.  Redbone spent considerable time to get the playfield and plastic images just right, as resources for this table were very limited.  As usual lots of hours were put in on this one, and lots of tweaking on the varitarget and physics to emulate a real machine.

I implemented the latest VPW standards, physics, GI and shadow baking, Lampz and 3D inserts, dynamic shadows, updated backglass for desktop, roth standup and varitarget targets, standalone compatibility, sling corrections, optional DIP adjustments, updated flipper physics, VR and fully hybrid modes, Flupper style bumpers and lighting, gBOT system and trough. Redbone provided the playfield and updated the plastics and apron, and other images.  Hauntfreaks provided the higher resolution VR backglass and Silversurfer updated the cab artwork. I also added options for balls, ball brightness, LUTs, Dip settings, siderails, and plenty of other VR stuff.  DarthVito provided a few additional wallpaper VR Room walls.

You can find the ROM at pinballnirvana.com... sorbit.zip.

Also, I've included the nvram file to initially set the Dips, as the ROM creates settings that should be adjusted.  You can either grab the nvram file and put it in your nvram directory, or follow this process to do an initial setup for yourself.  (When you open the table, hit F6 (that'll load the default DIPS and display them). You can then select various ROM options, and I recommend these shown below.  Once entered, you can exit out, and in the script, you can set the SetDIPSwitches to zero. That will set the ROM settings and turn off the option.  If you later want to change that, you can turn it back on and change the dips.)
    - 3 ball
    - Playfield special of "extra ball"
    - Game mode of "replay"
    - Novelty of "normal"
    - Check the Match, Credits

Thanks again to Redbone for the playfield and plastic images, Rothbauerw for the varitarget code, Hauntfreaks for the updated VR Backglass, DarthVito for additional VR walls, and Silversurfer for the cab art images! Also thanks to everyone else from the VPW team that provided feedback!

  11. Star Gazer (Stern 1980) by arborelia

This is my first VPX modification. I based this on the version by @Felsir, with permission.

Star Gazer is one of my favorite pinball machines. I got to play it recently at Rochester Pinball Collective, and I watched the high-level competition on it on the stream of INDISC 2024. I wanted to make this VPX table play like what I'd played and seen. But none of this would be possible without having Felsir's version to start from.

This table is often about flow and on-the-fly shots, because the unusually low flipper angle stops you from trapping the ball very often. Time your shot to the upper drops - the first one you hit in the bank determines whether clearing the drops or ripping the top spinner is worth big points.

    My changes (v2.0):

    - Reworked the physics - more friction, slightly weaker flippers, stronger pops, weaker plunger, more flipper elastic.
    - Fixed flipper angles and the position of the left flipper. They really do look like that -- these flippers at rest point downward more than other tables.
    - Made physics sounds audible over the very loud beeps from the ROM. You're presumably running the table at a low volume overall.
    - Increased the strength of digital nudging, but made the tilt more sensitive.
    - Corrected some playfield text.

I'm happy to see further mods as long as they make things better.

    Thanks to espie for playtesting.

About 4 months ago, I reached out to @xenonph for permission to mod his phenomenal Hankin's Empire Strikes Back table mod. After discussing our love of Star Wars, we decided to pursue a full version of Star Wars Episode 1 (Williams 1999), using ESB as the base. For those familiar with Episode 1, it was the second Pinball 2000 table, the first being Revenge from Mars. Pinball 2000 roms are not available and, to make matters more complicated, the table uses a mirrored playfield and graphics to create a hologram of sorts. While the hologram effect is very cool, we decided not to tackle it with this release, although it may be possible through a Pup Pack, or some playfield effects like we've seen with Wacky Races, Pokemon, etc.

However, instead of the holograms, @xenonph did something amazing...again. If you've watched videos of the original table, you'll hear music from the original trilogy. And sound effects like TIE Fighters. Well, that's not the case with our table-Duel of Fates? You bet. Call outs and sound effects from the Phantom Menace? Totally.

On behalf of my partner in creativity @xenonph, we hope you enjoy our tribute to Episode 1 pinball.

  13. Spin-A-Card (Gottlieb 1969)_Teisen_MOD

First I would like to thank Loserman76 for the beautiful work... wherever he is playing pinball!

small changes were made only aesthetically

small improvements in the playfield, plastics, lighting, flippers position...  I want to make it clear that the descriptions for the tables I'm sharing are "standard" for all, changes are made when there is a need for some adjustment.

version used, follow the link to the original table

    Adjustments made:

    - Playfield color correction and touch-ups
    - cap bumpers corretion
    - added primitive to the base of the bumpers and lighting
    - lighting
    - metals
    - screws
    - new pov
    - target adjustments
    - flippers adjustment
    - new top tabs
    - added lighting to the ball marker in Apron (if you don't like it, just delete the lamp)
    - other small touches

    Loserman Description:
    VPX conversion
    thanks to GNance, Arngrim
others to thank: JPSalas, Pinuck, hauntfreaks, Borgdog
in addition to the "standard" keys (typically "1" to start game and "5" for coin), I've added "3" as another coin input and "4" for coin and auto-start game (like I recall the dime slots generally were) to simulate 3 coin slots
when game is not in progress, holding down left flipper for about 3-5 seconds will bring up the options menu. left flipper selects item, right flipper changes option.
I've also included shadows for the ball and flippers. If you want to turn them off look for these lines at the beginning of the script:
    Const ShadowFlippersOn = true
    Const ShadowBallOn = true
change to false if you want either of the shadows not showing on your tables

  14. Star Race (Gottlieb 1980) w VR Room

Gottlieb's Race Thru Space!  Another extended wide-body machine like Circus.  Lots of fun to play, two Varitargets, a hard to hit bonus saucer, and fast loops.  Redbone had been working on getting the playfield to a much better state, and reached out to me to see if I'd like to create the table from it.  It was very similar to physics, style, etc. from the Circus table that I just worked on, so I got to work. Lots of hours were put in on this one, and lots of tweaking on the Varitargets to emulate a real machine.

As usual, I updated to latest VPW standards, physics, GI and shadow baking, Lampz and 3D inserts, dynamic shadows, updated backglass for desktop, playfield mesh for a saucer bevel, roth drop and standup targets, standalone compatibility, sling corrections, optional DIP adjustments, updated flipper physics, varitargets, VR and fully hybrid modes, Flupper style bumpers and lighting, gBOT system and trough. Redbone provided the playfield and updated the plastics and apron, also provided some ambient sounds.  Hauntfreaks provided the higher resolution VR backglass and cab artwork. I also added options for balls, ball brightness, LUTs, Dip settings, ambient sounds, siderails, and plenty of other VR stuff.  Hauntfreaks even provided a fun space themed wallpaper VR Room walls.

I've included an option for two ROMS (you can find them at pinballnirvana.com... starrac7 and starrace).  The original 6 digit ROM, and a 7 digit ROM (so when you score over a million you can see it).  There's an option in the script to change that, however I've defaulted to the 7 digit.  Make sure to grab the correct backglass if you are in a cab environment.  Hauntfreaks just released the corresponding backglasses.

I've included the nvram files to initially set the Dips, as the ROM creates settings that should be adjusted.  You can either grab those nvram files and put them in your nvram directory, or follow this process to do an initial setup for yourself.
    - 3 ball, Playfield special of "extra ball"
    - Game mode of "replay"
    - Novelty of "normal"
    - Tilt of "ball in play"
    - Check the Match, Credits, Sound when scoring
    - AND most importantly, "Scoring Sounds Only".

Again note... the background sounds from this era can get kind of annoying... especially if you have a good bass speaker in your cab.  Make sure to follow the above procedure for turning the sounds option to "Scoring Sounds Only".

Thanks again to Redbone for the playfield and plastic images, the space sound, and Hauntfreaks for the updated Backglass, and cab art images! Also thanks to Rothbauerw for his linear target code, bietekwiet, passion4pins, and everyone else from the VPW team that provided feedback!

    - cap bumpers corretion (IPDB)
    - added primitive to the base of the bumpers and lighting
    - lighting
    - metals
    - screws
    - new pov
    - target adjustments
    - flippers adjustment
    - new top tabs
    - red pins (IPDB)
    - other small touches

    Wildman's B2S

    Loserman Description:

    VPX conversion
    Artwork done by GNance
    Original art by Popotte
others to thank: JPSalas, Pinuck, hauntfreaks, Borgdog, Arngrim
in addition to the "standard" keys (typically "1" to start game and "5" for coin), I've added "3" as another coin input and "4" for coin and auto-start game (like I recall the dime slots generally were) to simulate 3 coin slots
when game is not in progress, holding down left flipper for about 3-5 seconds will bring up the options menu. left flipper selects item, right flipper changes option.
I've also included shadows for the ball and flippers. If you want to turn them off look for these lines at the beginning of the script:
    Const ShadowFlippersOn = true
    Const ShadowBallOn = true
change to false if you want either of the shadows not showing on your tables

  20. Star Trek LE (Stern 2013)

This version of Star Trek Enterprise Limited Edition is a re-upload from VPinball done by nFozzy (with his permission).  This vpx file dates back quite a few years now and represents one of the few tables that nFozzy authored.  nFozzy is primarily known for his physics works and other contributions that make the Visual Pinball software much more realistic.

The amazing part of this VPX version is that it looks and plays like something that would be released these days which is an homage to nFozzy's talent and it would be a shame not to have this version available for other VPin players to enjoy.

This version even uses early iterations of nFozzy's physics which are a bit different from a scripting basis but the results still feel just like any modern nFozzy physics implementation.

There were other authors mentioned in the VPX file which nFozzy credited:

     * EOStimer script taken from HMLF by Wrd1972 and Rothbauer
    * Round flasher caps by Zany & Dark
    * SFX by Knorr and Clark Kent
    * Ballshadow routine by Ninuzzu
    * Much thanks to JesperPark for targets, vengeance images and plastic scans
    * Some redrawn playfield elements courtesy of Neofr45

nFozzy gave permission to add any upgrades which really were minimal as only Fleep sounds, a VR Room (thank you Sixtoe) and a few other small tweaks were made.  The game simply didn't need much to be improved but it got a few goodies added.

I want to thank nFozzy for allowing me to share this with the community and thank him for his contributions to the core of many Visual Pinball titles.
