Q&A:
1. The rom slows down and does not respond any more or the table crashes
Answer: use VPX 10.8 final 64-bit and Vpinmame 3.6 Final 64-bit

2. The rom is missing or not working correctly
Answer: use the rom from the hyperlink provided on top of the release notes

3. There are no options in the script
Answer: all options are in the F12 menu, during play

4. At the end of ball, the sound stutters and the lights as well
Answer: this is a known issue: this is caused by the pinmame emulation, cannot be fixed in VPX

5. The flashers are very bright
Answer: first of all, don't change the tonemapper to anything else then AgX; furthermore you can tune the flasher brightness in the F12 menu

So many versions of this table, for good reason, so she deserves to have all of the latest tech. Nice to see VPX/VPinMAME has progressed to the point where we can play it with all of the latest toys. Kudos to Flupper for taking on this task with such a wonderful outcome as the table looks and plays fantastic....in VR and in the cabinet. Thanks to all

This is the spectacular version it should have always been. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The lighting is the best I've ever seen and the physics FINALLY make it a table worth playing. I must have 5 or 6 iterations of this game- they will all be deleted now! Fantastic *work* on this @Flupper and friends. Truly a work of gruesome yet beautiful art

I've always been a TWD fan - ever since I saw this tutorial by Tuna. This version is amazing in every way possible. It feels like the real deal and looks very close to the real thing. How this is possible - well, if Flupper decides that he is going to make a new table, he will always push VP to its brim. The advancements by the Devs of course has a lot to do with this. Tools like the blender toolkit etc. But, never the less. Fluppers deep understanding and commitment is what has always been something for the rest to look and learn from. Simply AMAZING - and the best thing. It plays like a dream on a cab that in some cases struggles with NOT as optimized creations. That alone is an accomplishment for sure. I can't thank you Flupper enough for this one. I know it will be played again and again for years to come. We had a stab at the beta4 last weekend and the guys could not get enough. Thanks of course to the helpers .. fine tuning etc.

Like many have said before me, the name Flupper automatically means this is going to be the highest quality. Like Whirlwind and White-Water, The Walking Dead plays amazingly well and is pure eye-candy.

Also interesting that Flupper's work is on tables with names that start with W -- Whirlwind, White-Water, Walking Dead, Wales of the Warabian Wights.

Ok, that last one doesn't start with a W but Flupper's version of TOTAN is the table I've played the most in VPX.

Tables like this are why I wish I had an extra room with my pinball setup always hooked up and ready to go 24/7, rather than a setup I have to string together each weekend. I had to wait a full week to play this sucker. Oh, man...it was WORTH the wait. When I got into pinball, I was young and all about the gameplay. When it had its second renaissance in the 90's, the light shows and audio presentations were what REALLY drew me in.

I am a sucker for light shows and ambiance.

While TWD has never been a favorite of mine (the audio and voice actors are so hokey and sound nothing like the show and the alt audio has always sounded too stilted for me to stay with it), I'm always willing to give a table I'm not a fan of a chance when it's released with all the trimmings.

Flupper has outdone himself. As someone who has had this table fairly close by his home, the reddish-pink ambient hue is right on and the lighting upgrades are photorealistic and gorgeous. I LOVE the table turning blood red when you hit Start followed by that white flash effect. Hauntfreaks' backglass is perfection and goes perfectly with the whole package.

It's still the drain monster I remember but after playing on it a couple hours, I'm far better at this version than any other version before it, including the real life table.

What a table. Between this and Dark Chaos a couple weeks ago, we've been spoiled.

I don't know how you do it! This is unbelievable. It looks so real!  Thank you soo much for all your hard work. This is perfection in its own universe. The name Flupper is by far the BIG TICKET name in this hobby. The highest level of perfection in lighting, physics and realism. Its a monument of a love letter to this classic stern table that is brutal to master. Sure to make a lot of people come back over and over again to try to put up a monster score. This is such a treat! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!! YOU ARE A GOD!!!

For whatever reason, this table never resonated with me, until NOW.

Amazing, amazing work.

Thank you for all of your hard work!

@Flupper. Your work on this is unspeakable. I loaded this up last night and the old version of this doesn't hold a candle to what you have created. Between the VPW tables and yours. It's amazing how far this software and the developers have come. Eventually once I learn how to install all the components and how technically they all interact. I am going to start to contribute to the community. Will  start with a serum colorization of something

Incredible 🤯 One of the best digital tables I've ever played! Strangely, I never enjoyed this table and never even played more than 2 games in a row. I then downloaded this beauty and played for two hours straight while enjoying every moment 🥰 I can't recommend it enough—just do yourself a favor and grab this jaw dropping love letter to vpin addicts. Also, pairs well with vodka 😃 @Flupper and friends, thank you ❤️

When I saw this was created by Flupper,  I knew how great this would be because all of his work is.  Then as I was playing it, I had a permanent smile and kept shaking my head in disbelief how good it is!!!   I can only imagine how much time was put into this labor of love!

Thank you Flupper for sharing this and thanks to everyone else involved with working on this.

Not enough stars in the sky to rate this one. What a treat you have all given us thankyou. Really shines in VR and performance is amazing. A must have for any collection even if not a fan of the show (I've never watched it).

I was about a month into discovering the world of virtual pinball when Flupper released Whirlwind. I didn’t just dip my toe in—I dove in headfirst. I knew I’d never finish building a cabinet from scratch, so I invested in the best pre-fabricated cab I could find. Of course, it came with a packed drive of tables.

At the time, I had minimal real or virtual pinball experience. But I was hooked. I started digging deeper, exploring everything this hobby had to offer. Then I downloaded Flupper’s new Whirlwind. My front-end was still playing preview videos from the older, cartoon-style version of the table, which I’d barely touched. But the moment I hit start on Flupper’s version… it was an awakening.

Suddenly, I wasn’t just playing a table—I was seeing the direction VPin was going. Whirlwind became the definitive table I used to show off my cab, as a benchmark that proved how far virtual pinball could go.

Poor Flupper—every time I played Whirlwind, I’d message him thanking him for his incredible work… and then immediately try to pry what he was working on next. When he told me The Walking Dead was in progress, I felt compelled to give something back for all the joy his work had given me. And help him set that bar once again.

I happen to know a perennial top-10 IFPA player who owns and loves a real Walking Dead machine. He’s a key part of a local pinball collective I frequent. I was determined to get his feedback on Flupper’s work. At first, I invited him over to play on my cab. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that wasn't going to cut it for a Flupper release.

Instead, I loaded up my cabinet and took it directly to the collective. We set it up side-by-side with the real machine for a direct comparison. What was supposed to be a couple of hours of testing turned into an immensely productive weekend of side-by-side play, tweaking, discussion, and adjustment.

Every detail was scrutinized: flipper strength, ball speed, nudging, randomness, difficulty, etc. That weekend became the foundation for weeks of fine-tuning as we worked to push the virtual table closer and closer to the authentic feel of the real thing.

I made only a brushstroke on this masterpiece—Flupper was the true artist. But I’m grateful I had the chance to contribute, even in a small way, to this incredible creation.

What started as a fan’s excitement turned into a collaboration between creator, player, and enthusiast. Together—with Flupper’s brilliant foundation, the insights of a world-class player, and countless hours of testing—we aimed to craft an experience that didn’t just look like the real machine… it felt like it.

I want to be clear: all credit goes to Flupper for his vision, skill, and tireless work. I simply had the privilege of helping fine-tune some details and advocate for authenticity alongside one of the best players in the world.

I hope this table gives you the same thrill I felt the first time I hit start. It’s more than a digital recreation—it’s a tribute to what makes virtual pinball magical, and a sign that the sky is the limit.

Now go kill some Walkers!

Response from the author:

Thanks! You and your top player buddy were exactly what I needed (next to the rest of the VPW testers) to finetune before releasing.

The name Flupper1 has long been a guarantee of excellent quality! The tables made by him are always ahead of their time and are characterized by the most demanding execution possible. This is also the case in this case, the visuals are excellent, the play of lights is fantastic, it adds a lot to the enjoyment of the game. What is really surprising to me is the physical similarity to the real pinball machine! I was lucky enough to play several games during a tournament recently and I can say that it is really close to it! It is just as challenging to achieve higher scores and the table can be just as cruel to the player as in reality! As long as such dedicated and professional makers pamper us with their diamonds, I think this hobby is moving in a very good direction! We can be grateful to them for that!

I've always thought I'd really like this table, but there has not been a version that I was interested in investing time in. Well... that is no longer an issue. I've already spent countless hours on it, and will certainly play it many more times in the years to come. The reasons for that are easy... it looks absolutely gorgeous and despite that, being so well optimized, it runs like a dream on my mid-range system. The physics is well-tuned, based on many hours of studying real gameplay and incorporating expert input from great players. The table is not easy, and I love that this rendition represents that. You are going to have many failed games before you put a decent game together, and it will feel like an amazing achievement. Well done Flupper on another stunning contribution.

Flupper is my absolute favorite creator of V-pins, and he delivers again... At an absurdly high level.

Dankjewel Legend !  Wat een top-kast ! 👍❤️🤘

An absolute classic, just like Flupper's Whirlwind and TOTAN

The new bar for realism in VPX. Excellent work, 6/5 stars!

Late to the party but OH man, Flupper! Youre still around and making pinball magic 😍 Ive played on a Pro version of this game but never had as much fun as I do on this game here - really bravo for a great, super-realistic playing version, I finally 'get' why this game is fun haha.

Always goes without saying for the OG of amazing looking tables but this build looks amazing - genuinely better than the real thing. I also love the mod bumper caps.

Thanks Flupper for sharing this gift to the VP world, cheers to you! 🍻

Powerus

Finally a version worth playing. It looks amazing and the physics feel ok (haven't played much yet). Maybe a little stiff rubber and maybe a little too powerful flips but far better than every other unplayable versions.
Great job !

tout simplement magnifique bravo

One of the best digital pinball tables made this day.

What an awesome yet infuriating table! That left out lane is a ball sucking drain! I never played this table much before in the other versions, but this one has been my go to since it was released. What a great looking table and to look so good on the cabinet is a great achievement IMO. It plays and feels awesome too. Thank you for the effort on this. It is one of the best tables to come out lately without a doubt.
