  3. Back to the Future: The Pinball (Data East 1990)

"Wait a Minute, Doc. Are You Telling Me You Built a Time Machine... Out of a DeLorean?"

This Visual Pinball title has quite a legacy and it looks like it started with a JPSalas table. (this community is indebted to him in so many ways)

It was massively improved around early 2018 in a new table version which resides at version 1.4 at vpForums by the following authors: Cyberpez, rothbauerw, wrd1972, HauntFreaks, ClarkKent, dark, RustyCardores and possibly others.

Enter July 2023 and versins77 added a minimal version of nFozzy physics, Fleep sound and a few other small visual / lighting changes.  However, the game play got even better with those simple tweaks and it plays very smooth and true.

The only missing component in all of this was a great VR experience and I was working personally with versins77 so that he could send updates to his latest files.

Alas, versins77 kind of disappeared from the VPin scene about 6 months ago leaving me with a fully functional VR hybrid Back to the Future.

I received permission from Cyberpez to upload a finalized version of the title to kind of complete the package as the game simply plays phenomenal as it is mostly due to Cyberpez's original vision.

So, I searched for the ultimate VR Room for Back to the Future and found only one 3D model that truly would fit.  DaRDog81 put it into action in Blender and it is right on theme down to the Clock Tower, Hill Valley, Delorean and all.

The VR Backglass was also animated by TastyWasps with the help of leojreimroc and hauntfreaks.  The desktop background was also improved with digital digits, an upscale and more contrast.

The one add-on that is truly a must for this title is the awesome altsound by Apophis with help from iDigStuff.  It truly brings this title up to 88 mph with 1.21 gigawatts!

Download the altsound here and turn your speakers up to 11:

  4. Bad (RyGuy417 2022)

Full reskin of Bad Girls, staying true to the theme that inspired it--Michael Jackson's Bad Album (same font, same music).

Bad Girls was done in VP 10.5 by @bodydump and 32assassin.  I've reached out to @bodydump for mod permission, but he was last active on VPU back in early 2021, so not sure I will hear back from him anytime soon  . I will pull this down if he denies permission. That being said, I want to stress how authors like Bodydump, 32 assassin, Dark, Randr, and others did ALL the work on these tables back in the day. This has some "polish" at best...kind of.

Regardless, enjoy and happy holidays to all.

4/6/23 Update: added support for adding MP3s. Test mp3 added to Google Drive link (drop in your Music folder; right magna to start the audio). You can add more songs by adding to your Music folder and updating the script in below (version here includes the first track using the test track available). You must re-download the .vpx to take advantage.

If musicNum = 0 Then PlayMusic "mjbad.mp3" End If If musicNum = 1 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If If musicNum = 2 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If If musicNum = 3 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If If musicNum = 4 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If If musicNum = 5 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If If musicNum = 6 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If If musicNum = 7 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If If musicNum = 8 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If If musicNum = 9 Then PlayMusic "YourMusicTrack.mp3" End If

  5. Bad Cats (Williams 1989) VPW Mod

    "One More Time…"

This was one of VPWs first projects a few years ago after Brad1X had done a complete vector re-draw of it. At the time we released it with a lot of added dirt and scratches, but we always wanted a version a bit more cleaned up. In addition to new toolkit lighting, it has had a physics overhaul, and a very detailed Fleep sound pass with the sound package used in Bride of Pinbot (a table from the similar era).

This update was driven primarily by Benji who did a great job updating the project with blender toolkit. Thanks to Apophis for his various scripting help and tutorials getting movables to work, Rothbauerw for various helps, Tomate for modeling new plastic ramps, Mcarter for all the script-side updates (especially Fleep sound package), Iaakki and MrGrynch for scripting support.

Special Notes: VPX 10.8 Beta 7 (or higher) required for this table. This table also takes advantage of a new options page feature in 10.8, accessed via F12 key. The 3rd page in this menu has table specific options including some sweet mirrored side blades. These are disabled by default because they come at a decent performance cost, especially if you are playing in anaglyph or VR. The ‘Day/Night’ setting here is also where you will adjust the table brightness (not to be confused with the same functionality of old Day/Night slider).

This project is dedicated to Brad1X who has done a few amazing re-draws for us and this is his favorite pinball table!

All Logos, Copyrights and Trademarks are property of their respective owners.

PROVIDED STRICTLY FOR PERSONAL / HOME USE AND NOT FOR COMMERCIAL SALE / RE-SALE OR DISTRIBUTION!

  11. Bank Shot (Gottlieb 1976)(VR Room)

    Description:
    ***************
The table is made by the great Jeff Whitehead (Loserman76).
May he rest in peace. 😞 I hope, there are pinballs where you are, Jeff.
I would like to thank Jeff, for allowing me, to convert his tables to VR.

    Info
It is a hybrid table. So you can play in VR, desktop or cabinet mode, but you need the external backglass (included in the rar file).
There is no need to change the script. A VR headset is automatically detected.

    I added the following things:
VR room, artwork for cabinet, backbox and flyer, animations for buttons and plungers, LUT files (change with magnasave buttons).

    '*        Table build/scripted by Loserman76
    '*        Image redraws/touchups/fixes by GNance
'*        VR update by Rajo Joey

    Best to play in VPinball_GL 10.8: https://github.com/vpinball/vpinball/actions/workflows/vpinball-gl.yml

    ***********************************************
These are quick conversions, as I don't like playing in a dark room and don't want to spend more days or weeks to convert a table.
If you want to do your own conversions, I wrote two tutorials for EM tables like Loserman76's and make templates of the tables, pictures and materials.
Also there are some .psd files, to change the artwork in an easy way for example.
In the template tables there are generic artwork for the cabinet and the backbox. Some people may be happy with that and don't need the real artwork.
There is a short tutorial for people, who know the editor and a longer one for newbies. Both instructions are in English and German.

  12. Banzai Run (Williams 1988)

Welcome Race Fans to Banzai Run!

Since Visual Pinball was created, Banzai Run has been difficult to re-create due to the fact that is has one of the most unique designs in mechanical pinball with an upper playfield mechanism that replaces the backglass.

There have been some great solutions but none that serve all 3 platforms for cabinet, desktop and VR.

However, JPSalas (with the help of Aubrel) released a very innovative idea to have a "sliding" playfield to make up for some limitations of Visual Pinball point of view scripting.

JP's modified table was used to build a prototype that had a normal backbox and backglass with the sliding playfield for VR thus having a level playing field for all 3 platforms in competitions, etc.

However, it did look quite odd in VR so RothbauerW took on the task of integrating a hybrid model that took some cues from the awesome VR Room that Sixtoe had previously built for Banzai Run.

After some heavy integration work, physics modeling, upscaling, tweaks, play balancing and a lot of testing, this version of Banzai Run will hopefully represent the best solution at this time given the Visual Pinball architecture.

    Here are the commendations:

Based on JPSalas' v4.0 table.  Thank you JPSalas!  This included a playfield from EBIsLit and other coding from Aubrel.

THANK YOU to all previous authors on this table!

    * RothbauerW - Conversion to full VR experience, physics tweaks, upper/lower playfield tweaks, roth stand-up targets, various other upgrades including integration
    * Sixtoe - Geometry/physics tweaks and twerks.  Original amazing VR Room model.

  13. Barb Wire (Gottlieb 1996)

I'm very happy to share this table because for the first time it should be truly playable and complete.
Until now the way BigFatso moved in all the previous versions was wrong enough to kill the game's rules and the contact lens toy was missing.
To be clear it plays and looks now far better than expected when I started to rebuild this table
But don't expect to get one of the prettiest vpx tables: the ressources available for this pinball are very limited and not very good. Also I don't have enough skill to do something really better than that...

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wanted first to make a mod of the previous vpx versions of this table but I finally rebuilt it from scratch.
So this is a "new" VPX version but nothing would be possible without the previous versions made.

This is my first try... To rebuild this table I took some parts directly from the previous versions made (playfield lights, original script, switches,...).

I did a lot of work to redraw all the arts of this table because there is no real scans available.
So I did the same as the previous autors and tried to take the best from the few pictures available on the net...

Thanks to the previous autors (I won't be able to do anything without their work)
    - Destruk and TAB for the VP9 version
    - Rascal for the VPX conversion
    - Bigus for the MOD and an other VPX version

  14. Barb Wire (Gottlieb 1996)

This is a VPX conversion of TAB and Destruk's 1996 Gottlieb Premier Barb Wire table. Big thanks to TAB and Destruk for their work. It can use some 3D models, but it doesn't look too bad as it is. Feel free to fix it up or modify it, after all I'm a newbie to the VP scene.
It needs the rom named "barbwire.zip". Hopefully you have a friend who has it, because the Gottlieb roms were pulled for all of the VP sites.

  17. Barracora (Williams 1981) w VR Room

A version of Barracora VPX was originally done by Dids and GtxJoe, however in this release, nearly everything was done or redone from scratch.  The original table size was incorrect, which required me to completely redo everything like I did on Jungle Lord.  The more I worked on this... the more I just redid everything... primitives, sounds, images, etc.

Love this table... as its another great early 80's Williams table like Black Knight, Solar Fire, Jungle Lord, Pharaoh, etc.  This has a very complicated ruleset, but excellent game play, as well as challenging lock shots and hungry outlanes!  Table instructions are included in the Table info section, and there's a great tutorial by PAPA online.

Included in this Version 2.0 is Hybrid VR/desktop/cabinet modes, new upscaled playfield, VPW physics, flipper tricks, dynamic shadows, Fleep sounds, Lampz, 3D inserts, new general illumination lighting, sling corrections, drop and stand-up targets, saucers, playfield mesh, various primitives, etc.  Significant time was spent on researching online videos, to ensure accuracy of shots, ball drops, kickouts, and overall playability.  I also created a desktop backglass with a cool lighting effect, as well as the VR backglass and other VR options. There are also some performance improvements, and I added a playfield mesh for the playfield, so there's a realistic bevel in the saucers.

I would like to thank the VPW team for testing and feedback (especially Apophis, Tomate, Smaug, FriscoPinball, Bountybob, Lumi, Bietekwiet, Armyaviation, Wylte and all others who tested!) And... an additional thank you to Tomate for providing the lower rail primitive.

There are several options in the script.  Including VR, ball brightness, LUT lighting options, and you can turn the bell off if you don't like that sound.
The LUT changes are done by holding cntl (or left mangasave) and then while holding, scroll through the options with the right magnasave.
This is a hybrid table done in VPX 10.72, and I have code in here to automatically choose between VR, desktop, and cabinet.   Additional options in the script include two VR environments, a VR clock, a topper, posters, and settings for dynamic shadows if you experience a performance hit
Thanks again to the VPW team for feedback!

There are two great b2s's out there... one by Wildman (https://vpuniverse.com/files/file/4220-barracora-williams-1981/), and one by Hauntfreaks if you would like the full dmd version (https://vpuniverse.com/files/file/12399-barracora-williams-1981-b2s-with-full-dmd/).

It is a hybrid table. You can play it in FS, DT or VR.

The original table was created by Dids666.
I would like to thank Dids666 for allowing me to convert this table.
I thank Bord for the help with scripting the drop targets.

    Info
I made some changes to the layout of some objects.

Also implemented or changed some other things: dyn. ballshadows, nFozzy's flipper physics.
There are 16 LUT files in the table. You can change them with the left MagnaSave button.
You can change the VR space with the right MagnaSave button.

  19. Barry Manilow

    Ladies and gentlemen... Barry Manilow!

I decided to do a relatively quick mod of one of JP's EM tables (Big Star) featuring the music icon Barry Manilow. I was able to add 3 songs to the table: one for attraction mode/game over, one for normal gameplay and another for activating the Special in the middle of the table.

This comes with a mini pup using the DMD screen. Please make sure to drop the "Barry" folder inside of your PUPVideos folder. I tested on two different computers and the PUP appeared on the regular DMD screens.
If people are interested I can create a fancier table later on. Please let me know and enjoy.

  21. Baseball (Gottlieb 1970) 1.2.1

If you’re playing this table and not yelling: “Runner on third!” or “Home run!” then you’re doing it wrong.

Baseball plus pinball is a match made in heaven — and Baseball (Gottlieb 1970) demonstrates that perfectly.

Think of each ball as an inning. Targets and rollovers on the playfield score your team singles, doubles, triples — and when they do, the bases on a baseball diamond light up to indicate runners on those bases. It is incredibly rewarding to see all the bases lit up, bases loaded, and then make a perfect vari-target drive into left field to score that home run.

Unique to this game is a separate tally of runs in addition to the usual method of pinball scoring. Bring a runner home and a run is scored — try for that bases-loaded home run to increase your runs by four. A separate high score counter keeps track of the most runs made in a game.

If only Gottlieb had made this a two-player game you could have competed on runs with a friend...

(BTW, IPDB says the star-style rollover buttons on this table, they're the bases, were first introduced to the world in this game.)

    Version 1.2.1:
Recessed apron Playfield shadows Some texture and sound improvements
Loserman76, RIP, brought us this table to VPX and he is to be thanked foremost for this and over 200 other EM (electro-mechanical) tables. EMUnderdogs have added a recessed apron, playfield shadows and more enhancements to try and make the table more authentic to the original.
