Star Trek: The Next Generation (Williams 1993) - SD 65K Colors

Please note: This Serum colorization was developed and tested on both virtual and real tables to ensure accurate color depth and optimal performance. However, for real tables, this applies exclusively to ZeDMD <> PPUC/DMD displays. Use with any other hardware solution is strongly discouraged. Videos and user reports have shown reduced frame rates and poor color output specifically on PIN2DMD. Please be aware that these issues are not caused by Serum itself, but by the hardware/software limitations of PIN2DMD.

World Poker Tour (Stern 2006) Serum Colorization

I’m happy to share this serum colorization of Stern’s World Poker Tour (2006) to the community.
I originally began this colorization to assist @mk47 and the serum-to-real pinball project team, then @RobbyKingPin wanted to dust off and redo a VPX World Poker Tour table that was long overdue for an overhaul and we’ve been collaborating since that time to release. What an awesome community we have!
Special thanks to @PastorLUL as he provided the service menu frames as well as all the other Serum authors and @zedrummer that make up this wonderful community – it is all of you that keep me motivated. Thank you.
Uses the wpt_140a rom
Some highlights:
- This is a Serumv2 and requires Freezy/DMDExt 2.3 or higher
- City destination frames have been replaced with imported HD drone footage, along with an enhanced fireworks display when you win a City
- Most backgrounds have an HD component to them and look nice when properly set in your dmddevice.ini configuration:

Avatar (Stern 2010) Serum Colorization

I’m pleased to offer you this serum colorization of Avatar from Stern’s 2010 pinball rom. This is my 2nd serum colorization.
My goal with this one was to keep some primary colors throughout but flex/ adjust as the game modes change (e.g. ampsuit multiball is army brown/green/yellow, eywa seed collection uses purple/white/blue) and blend it all together with the imported video footage as a cohesive experience as you play the game.
Notable Highlights:
· Serum v2 release requiring DMDExt 2.3.0 or higher
· Over 30+ individual clips of movie footage - you might lose a ball or two watching instead of playing
· Add scalermode = doubler in your dmddevice.ini to show off the HD frames
Uses avr_200 rom

Medieval Madness - DMD 65K - Serum Format

Taito Multi-Table Pack Serum Colorization

There is a very large Taito do Brasil community in South-America and @tonyfox reached out to me to see if I could create a colorization similar to the Williams Multi-table pack I had done - challenge accepted!
This is what I had to work with:
And this is what I came up with by using some special sprite offsets:
This colorization should work with most tables except for the Electromagnetics (EMs). Simply rename [Taito ROM Name].crz to match your table ROM name and drop it in the appropriate altcolor folder, such as altcolor\shock\shock.crz.
Due to limitations, this colorization will not work for 3 or 4 player games, except for Hot Ball as the layout is different.
To activate the higher resolution, add an entry for each table in your DmdDevice.ini like this:
[polar] scalermode = Doubler [snake] scalermode = Doubler [shock] scalermode = Doubler
This was a relatively quick project with about 13 hours put into it. Enjoy! 🍻

Star Wars Trilogy SERUM (OG/Purist Edition)

I'm happy to share my Star Wars Trilogy colorization in Serum format. This is the OG/Purist version where every frame has been hand colored (the digitized movie sequences were NOT FUN! 🥵). This project took me ~150 hours.
At a minimum, you will need the Serum DLL file version 2.2.0 (released June 10th 2025) for this colorization as it uses dynamic sprites. Simply download and drop it in your vPinMame folder.

[ZEN] BioLab Colorization - Serum v2

BioLab for Pinball FX.
I'm a huge fan of Zen studios and their original tables and have decided to give some color love to some of them.. Now I present BioLab.
To use:
Set Pinball FX to cabinet mode and set use external DMD device. Language English.
Colorization Installation location:
BioLab "27.CRZ" goes in "vpinmame\altcolor\27" folder
Requires: DMDextensions v2.3.0 + and setting system environment variable if Visual PinMAME not installed: see https://github.com/freezy/dmd-extensions?tab=readme-ov-file#pinball-fx for detailed instructions getting dmdext to work with PinballFX
** While I used frame dumps from both FX and FX3 to create the crz and have created unique sprites to handle both game engines..
It currently appears that dmdext command line (used for FX3 mirroring/memory grabbing to display) DOES NOT support Serum2 colorizations yet (Serum2 crz's just result in a black screen in FX3, but Serum1 and other color formats do appear to work in FX3/2.3.0)..
Hopefully we can get a fix/patch for dmdext command line / Serum2 use in FX3 in the future **
IF/When dmdext supports Serum2/FX3 - the file can be copied/renamed "biolab.crz" and placed in a "vpinmame\altcolor\biolab" folder
Once running, you should be able to drag the virtual DMDext window to your desired location, right click save position for 27 ( or manually add/edit an entry [27] to your table list in the dmddevice.ini
You can then set scaletohd=true to enable the HD version for the virtual
Example: (use your own values)

virtualdmd top = 0
virtualdmd width = 1024
virtualdmd height = 256

If you have a zedmdHD configured, it should detect/use the HD frames..

the non-S3 zedmdHD while it works ( I do need to update my test non-S3 zedmdHD version so it may be better now), but what i tested could not handle the animated fullscreen backgrounds very well.
That said, If non-S3 zedmdHD, I recommend setting the scaletohd value to false under [27] in the dmddevice.ini

Bad Cats (Williams 1989) - DMD 64 colors - Serum V2 Format

I propose this colorization of the excellent Bad Cats table 😚
Colorization works with the bcats_tcm rom, which you can find here .
Extraordinary work by IdealJoker, who has made a mod of the rom and added many new features, to be discovered from here.
You'll discover all the options and features added to the original rom. For the purists out there, the settings for identical operation to the original rom are shown. A little reading 🙂
Important steps :
The bcats_tcm.cRZ file must be placed in the vPinMame\altcolor\bcats_tcm directory. In the table script, replace the value of the variable cGameName (bcats_l5) with bcats_tcm. You must be up to date with vPinMame for the rom to be recognized. Download it here. Otherwise, there's a really messy method. Rename the rom bcats_tcm.zip to bcats_l5.zip (keeping the name bcats_l5 for the cGameName) and check 'Ignore ROM CRC errors' in vPinMame (F1 during gameplay).

As usual, I welcome any comments or suggestions you may have to help me improve the colorizing.
This table isn't very complicated, but it becomes a lot of fun when played by more than one player. The end-of-game bonuses can be amazing: exchange of scores between 2 players, donation of a million to another player, reduction of the score, etc. 😁
The famous 50 million seems to be accessible only in multi-player mode and on the third ball.
I'm aware that this rom won't necessarily be suitable for B2Ss on which the 2 parts of the DMD are next to each other horizontally. Some colorized frames have a character in the centre of the frame. It will therefore be cut out in these cases.
Let's start from the principle that I'm freely proposing the entire project on the Serum Discord (https://discord.gg/Cn9mAkSu) and that I authorise all people of goodwill to make modifications in this sense.

Diner (Williams 1990) - DMD 64 colors - Serum v2 format

I'm proud to present this new colorization 😚
Based on an idea by @zedrummer, this is (maybe) the first colorization of an alphanumeric rom. It paves the way for many other roms 😋
This probably won't be the only version of this colorization because I don't know the table 100%, and because there are bound to be bugs or oversights on my part. Don't hesitate to share your comments or suggestions. 😉
The colorization works with the diner_l4 rom in English.
The diner_l4.cRZ file must be placed in the vPinMame\altcolor\diner_l4 directory.
V2.0.0 :
* Automatic shading with Serum v2 for greater legibility.
* Corrected slowness for PinDMD v3 owners.

Williams System 4&6 Serum pack

Alright, time for something a bit different. Here is an 8-pack 9-pack of Williams System 4 & 6 colorizations in Serum format. I'm releasing this as a pack because they are very small and all follow the same original DMD layout.
List of tables:

This will change your standard DMD from this:
into something like this:
Each colorization features a different AI generated image per ball and is meant to be used in HD resolution (256x64), although it will work in SD (128x32) but without the pretty pictures.
Once again, this is Serum 2.0 so you need DMDEXT 2.3.0 or newer and will need to add the following at the bottom of your DmdDevice.ini to enable HD for each table (not required if you have HD on for all tables globally).

I'm happy to present you all with my first serum colorization for one of the greatest movie franchises of all time and my all time favorite - Back to the Future
The goal was to make the colorization simple, readable (Thanks @ebor!), and fun ! It was fun to make!

This was primarily tested on the bttf_a27 rom but seems to work with bttf_a28 as well ( just rename it as needed)

GoldenEye SERUM colorization

I am happy to share my GoldenEye ROM colorization in SERUM format. This was a relatively quick one with around 115 hours put into it, 2450 frames and around 115 sprites. A huge thanks goes out to @PastorLUL for importing the few movie sequences and also to the fine folks on the Serum Discord. 😘
This is a Serum v2 colorization, so you need DMDEXT 2.3.0 at a minimum.
I've seen two or three early testers report that Defender was detecting a virus but I've run the file through the 60+ online antivirus scanners and the file is clean, so it's a false positive.
As always, if you see that I missed anything, please let me know and if you can dump the missing frames, that is a HUGE help.

- The Purist Edition is faithful to the original ROM, where black backgrounds remain black for higher contrast.
- The Gradient Edition that has extra color gradients added in the background.

Ghostbusters (Stern 2016) - Serum 64 colors

After "Dr. Who", I thought about working with something simple and that wouldn't put a strain on my old neurons, so I thought: Surely there isn't a Rom more complicated than "Doctor Who"... and how wrong I was. However, here you have the result of 7 months of work to color this rom from scratch.
Since it has some random components (like capture ghosts), I can't guarantee it's 100% complete, but it's close. Although I can assure you that it is totally playable, so if you have the possibility of uploading the errors you find, I will appreciate it if you share them so that I can correct them later.
- The latest SERUM library is required for its operation.
- There have been cases where PuP has stopped working with this .crz, this is because the latest versions of the dmddevicepup.dll library at this moment do not work correctly with .crz files. Therefore, in order to run this table with PUP, the original version that accompanies the original VPinSpa must be maintained, or failing that, a version of dmddevicepup.dll prior to or equal to 1.20.1.1 from 2018. We would hope solved the issue soon.
Taking into account that this table is 32 bits, this requires that the installation of VpinSpa be carried out in its own folder and not in VPinMame itself in order to keep the PUP updated in the rest of the tables.
I hope you like it and do not hesitate to share your impressions.
NOTE: Some users have reported virus messages when downloading the 7z compressed version. It is changed to a zip version to see if the error disappears, since the SERUM files are not executable and therefore it does not make sense for them to become contaminated with viruses. And my work computers are all clean of viruses and malware.

* while it was colored tastefully (IMO), there is nudity that will be show even if adult mode is turned off in the options, as I use playmate images for backgrounds *

That said, If you enable dumping..
Please add any of your dump files to the WIP thread so I can see what I may have missed frame wise, and keep and color said frames, or throw them out if deemed not needed.

Grease (Original 2023) Serum Colorization - Elvis Re-Imagining

Colorization Installation:
The grease.crz will go into your "/altcolor/grease" folder within VpinMame
You would also want the alias "grease,elvis" in VPMalias.txt

While it should work with any "grease"/elvis table... It is designed to go with the above table.. Judremy and I worked for about a year passing ideas back and forth for the modes and what the display will be showing.

Installation:
The elvis.crz will go into your "/altcolor/Elvis" folder within VpinMame
Requires: DMDExtensions V 2.2.1 https://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/9202-new-release-v221/
[and/or]
Libserum >= 1.6.0 https://github.com/zesinger/libserum/releases
I don't know your configuration(s). But it WILL require libserum v.1.6.0 for the Background features I implemented. (It's integrated in DMDExtensions v2.2.1)
If you are receiving a blank DMD screen.. you will need updates to use this colorization.

After almost 3 months of work, I'm proud to present my first Serum colorization, Cue Ball Wizard. While not the most popular table, I play it regularly and thought it needed a little love. I tried giving it a Western feel with wooden boards in the few key scenes. I was looking for a way of giving back to this amazing community that has given so much to me, hope you enjoy! A huge thanks to @zedrummer for developing the Serum colorization tool and for implementing our (many) requests on the fly.
