Let the Sorcerer work a little magic for you!

I've done a few versions of this table in the past, as well as other authors.  The past versions I did built on older versions.  Apophis reached out to me that the physics weren't quite right on the other tables, as he plays one a lot in the arcade.  So, I completely overhauled the table to version 4.0 and essentially started from scratch, reusing only a few primitives.  Redbone worked a new playfield, plastics, and other graphics for me.  I did a full implementation of current VPW standards, physics, targets, 3D inserts, playfield mesh, VR, hybrid, baked GI lighting, shadows, etc.  There's an F12 menu with some options in there.  Also thanks also to Primetime5k, who helped me get staged flippers implemented and tested.

Note: a new alternate gsound was recently released, however if you choose to use that, the ROM volume option needs to be at 0... which is default.  However is you don't use gsound, I recommend turning that ROM volume down to -12 or something... as it can get a bit annoying if too loud.

Also, you can turn off the background sound.  Instructions for that and others are at the bottom of the script, however, here's the instructions as well:

ROM Instructions  and example to turn off background sound

  •   Start table as usual
  •   Press (8) to get into ROM menu
  •   Press (7) to start correct advancement
  •   Press (8) several times until 04 is shown in the Credit Display.  'Auto-Up / Manual-Down switch is controlled by (7)
  •   Press (8) repeatedly until you get to the adjustment number desired.
  •      For example, background sound is defaulted to on.  It is adjustment number 35.  You'll see a 1 in the upper left display.  Press (1) to change that value.   To turn off sound, set the value to 0.
  •      Note:  Press (7) to reverse the advancement up or down.
  •   (9) will exit/reset
  •      Note: Auto-Up / Manual-Down (7)  also controls the direction the menus will advance

Enjoy, and hopefully you also feel that the physics and table play much harder, and closer to the actual table.

Thanks again to Redbone, apophis, and Primetime5k, as well as the VPW team for testing.

Released

Version 4.03

- This update does NOT affect game play at all.  It was pointed out that winning credit award points, the knocker sound did not go off.  This was due to the manual did not call out solenoid 14 (said it was unused).  In fact, it was for the knocker credit award point.  The script has been updated to account for both the bell (solenoid 15) and the knocker (solenoid 14).

Version 4.02

- Another minor graphics update to the right apron instruction cards.  They are now 3 ball card.  If you choose to use the 5 ball cards, I've left those images in the image manager, and you can export them, and reimport them to the card right images.

Version 4.0.1

- Minor graphics update only.  A visual plastic was protruding into the left ramp slightly.  Fixed.

- Also rewrote the instructions to change the ROM adjustments.  Background sound is one people may want to turn off.  Instructions are at the bottom of the script.

Version 4.0.0

I didn't know about Sorcerer but I just can't stop playing it since UnclePaulie released it. To maximise scoring is quite complicated and it takes a lot of concentration and skill to get it right. I love the ball and responsive flipper interaction that allows for so much control of the ball.

I love most off VR room tables.

I love much more in a dark room enviroment.

It reminds me most off Arcade near my place in the 80´s

Thank you UnclePaulie

Nice table, but... I give only 4 stars.

Why? due to the right apron card indicates 5 BALLS PER GAME (most SS tables are 3-balls, not 5). 🤔

EDIT/ADDED: now eligible to 5 stars, due to a quick texture replacement (one day!) to reflect 3 BALLS, instead, in table version 4.0.2. Thank you very much, and huge respects, @UnclePaulie 👍

Response from the author:

The game is typically played with 3 balls (and that's the factory default number in the ROM).  That was a simple graphics mistake, as we should have had the number 3 on the card instead of 5.  However... the game is designed to play with 3 or 5 balls.  You can change the game between 3 or 5 balls via the ROM menu.  It's Game Adjustment number 30 to change that.  I have instructions in the description how to access the ROM settings if you wish to have 5 balls.  Detailed instructions are also in the script at the bottom.  I've also included what every game adjustment number is in case you want to change other things like background sounds, etc.

I like this table so much more than I thought I would.
Looks awesome and plays great. The continuous weird digitised pulsating sounds and bleeps and bloops add to the tension of play.

One of my favorite tables, and UnclePaulie's mod has always been the best version. To tear it all down and rebuild it to make something already great somehow even better...?! My hat is off to you, sir. That's serious dedication to your craft. Cheers! 🍻
