Bad Move Human!

Centaur (Bally 1981) has quickly become my favorite pinball machine after doing this development.  Its fun, challenging, and the multiballs are awesome!  Thanks to Bord, @redbone, and Hauntfreaks for graphics assistance.  Bord provided a real scanned playfield, and Redbone updated it for scaling, inserts, and other touchups.  Redbone also created images for the plastics, apron, bumpers, and targets.  The VR backglass images are from Hauntfreaks.

Version 2.0 is a complete build from scratch utilizing full VPW standards, physics, baked GI VLM, 3D inserts, AllLamps routines, shadows, updated backglass for desktop, roth drop and standup targets, standalone compatibility, sling corrections, optional DIP adjustments, updated flipper physics, VR and fully hybrid, Flupper style bumpers and lighting. Lot of hours were spent studying gameplay videos to match the table skill shots and physics action.

I've implemented a full two trough system in this table to recreate what the actual table has and does for the orbs multiballs.  A lot of work and timing went into getting that just right.  Many primitives were redone in blender to get as accurate as I could. Some were reused and/or updated from Bord's prior table.

And as usual, there are plenty of options in the F12 menu, including ball choices, flipper colors, targets, screw caps, pulsing Queen's Chamber, and brightness of bumpers when off and when lit.  There are also multiple VR room environments and other VR options all done via the F12 menu, including LED undercab lighting, toppers, and more.  You can also change the ROM sound volume in the F12 menu.  (Note if you want to change the ROM volume, you'll need to restart the table after the change.).

I've also implemented some mods to replicate the recent Haggis Pinball Centaur Orblivion mod/update.  Graphics, VR updates, targets, etc. will be automatically updated with the Haggis mod in the F12 menu.  You can also get all the mods individually by selecting them one at a time.

Please NOTE there are several items to consider on the ROM settings:  The default settings for the ROM options are hard coded into the script and are based on the recommended values from Bally for 3 balls and harder play, AND a one free tilt with a warning.  If you want to change the ROM settings yourself, you need to change the "SetDIPSwitches to 1" in the script, and then use the F6 menu to change.

However... I am not able to hard code the ROM menu options.  Typically, there are levels of score achievements that award a free play.  The default ROM has that set to off.  I've included an nvram file you can use that sets that to match the instruction/score cards and Bally's recommendation (1,200,000 and 2,800,000).  Also, there are settings in the menu to set replays, sound, and HSTD. All this has been done for you in the included nvram file.  I also have instructions in the script on how to change that if you wish to do yourself.

Thanks again to Redbone for providing all the graphics updates, and to Hauntfreaks for the updated backglass images, and Bord for the playfield!

What's New in Version 2.0.3   See changelog

Released

Version 2.0.3

- Added a material to the VLM metal wall prims... to eliminate a "pinkish" hue caused during the Blender VLM bake.  Changing the material gives the metal walls a more metal look when off and when reflecting light.

Version 2.0.2

- Major updates include new baked metal and wood walls for light reflections.  Also animated leaf switch rubbers, and several other tweaks from recent tables I've done.

Detailed Changes in v2.0.2 description log.

@UnclePaulie strikes again! This table once again is of such quality that I really like to play some of these 70's/80's tables now. Amazing job as always!

Top-notch vpx conversion.

Plenty of options implemented in the F12 menu( (much expanded compared to your older tables !), the higher sidewall is quite convenient and more graphic customisations is always nice

Thank you UnclePauliend and the rest of the team, redbone Hauntfreaks and Bord (your older version was already very good) 😊

I remember playing this table as a kid at a public swimming pool cabana in Pennsylvania (water was too cold so pinball was my go-to). This is just like I remember and all of the options for the game lights is icing on the cake. Thank you - I'm having a great time playing it again!

I run a 2-screen cab at 60 fps and 900p. At the time of writing I haven't used the nvram settings (but I will).

Visually it's great. I thought Bord's was great too, but lighting and some other smaller details brought this table to the next level. The sheer amount of customizations are super cool.

Performance-wise it's great. I run a fairly low-spec system, and am unfortunately unable to play some of the more intense VPW tables without running at 720p. All I had to do was decrease reflections to ball only and it plays perfectly.

I'm mixed on the physics, but it by no means detracts from the table...

On the negative side, the physics are a little too perfect. Strong flippers ensure that the ball goes exactly where I want it. High playfield friction, low slope, and low gravity constant ensure the ball floats gently down to the flippers. The outlane rubbers bounced my ball back into play 4/5 times without any nudging. Simply put, it feels like Centaur on easy mode.

On the plus side, the physics are very consistent. The Material Settings are used optimally, so everything is easy to tweak. The table and its components are perfectly put together. I wish all tables were constructed this well. I may disagree with some of the physics, but it's also obvious that each component had thought put behind it.

A phenomenal build.

Absolutely amazing, thank you so much for this table!

If someone would ask me what is my favorite table, without a doubt it would be Centaur. It was in a local arcade in my hometown and I played it many, many times more than 30 years ago but this table always had special place in my heart. Interestingly enough, your previous recreation (Supersonic) was also there.

Version from Bord was good but I was hoping for an update to a current standards. This one is really on a next level - looks and plays fantastic. I cannot thank you enough for this.

Since tomorow is my birthday, I will take this as one of nicest presents that I could get 🤩

Another amazing release by the one and only uncle Paulie! (every time I see your name, I think of Paulie from the Sopranos). Thank you so much for your hard work and sharing with all of us. We are very lucky to have content creators as amazing as yourself and everyone that worked on this table (Thank you all!!!). I was never a fan of the 80's SS Era, but lately with all the rework brought forward on these classics, I am finding a lot of tables I really enjoy, Centaur being one of them!!  This table looks and plays so so nice and the amount of options in F12 is an added treat. Go download this one my VP brothers, you are not doing yourself justice if you miss this one.
