Everyone goes to his final reward eventually.  And few ever escape.  Either way, their money ALWAYS remains behind in Catacomb - the thrilling pin game from Stern.   Having a player controlled action-packed backglass, combined with a super fast playfield, Catacomb demands the ultimate in refined skills and cunning strategy.  What numbers should be picked?  What colors must be chosen?  Only seconds to decide... as a simulated voice alerts the player to his options.

Thanks to Hauntfreaks for providing me with a freshly scanned playfield, and thanks to Redbone for helping with various upscales and graphics cleanup, and lots of other graphic updates.

The whole table was done utilizing latest VPW standards for physics, lighting, GI baking, 3D inserts, playfield mesh, shadows, drop targets, 3D inserts, etc.  Dozens and dozens of hours were spent studying gameplay videos to match the table skill shots and physics action.

I've included default settings for the ROM options, as well as being able to change the ROM sounds in the F12 menu.  (Note if you want to change the ROM volume, you'll need to restart the table after the change.).  Also, if you want to change the ROM settings themselves, you need to change the "SetDIPSwitches to 1" in the script, and then use the F6 menu to change.  Ball options are also available in the script.  All other options (including VR rooms) are in the F12 menu.

I reused the code from the prior HSM/lander table, as it was required to work with the B2S functionality.  However it's been updated, AND if you are a VR user, I've created the backglass to be fully 3D and functional.

Thanks also to the VPW team for testing and feedback!

What's New in Version 2.0.1   See changelog

Released

Version 2.0.1 Updates (minor... doesn't NOT affect game play)

-    Added a Backbox VR Ball and Flipper reset position if backbox not active.
-    Forced ROM sounds to 1.
-    Added option to force backbox playfield off if b2s is used in desktop.

Note:  default is for the backbox overlay on the playfield in desktop mode to be on, cabinet and VR modes off.

HOWEVER you can override the defaults in the script with either BBonPFforceON = 1 or BBonPFforceOFF = 1

Const BBonPFforceON = 0      '0 is off (default);  1 is forced on for ALL modes.

Const BBonPFforceOFF = 0    '0 is normal operation for desktop users (default); 1 is forced off no matter what (usually if using a B2S)

I'm not a big fan of early SS machines by Stern.... but I always thought this one was unique, with nice graphics
and now @UnclePaulie has one again built us a perfect representation of this table... super clean.... insane features like the pop-up DT BG play.... the crazy VR BG... (even if you dont have VR check it out in live view)
anyway awesome job guys!!!

I was very skeptical at first when I saw this table, but I am absolutely delighted with it.

Not only does it look great, it also plays really well.

What a great choice for a table upgrade! The local spot where I play just got one of these in and I've been hoping for a chance to learn the rules in VPX ... thank you!!

Fantastic job, great attention to detail, plays great.  I have always liked this table because of theme even though I'm really not any good at it.  UnclePaulie has done a fantastic job recreating this table in great detail. Thank You Sir!

Fun table, thanks for sharing!

Another superb vpx conversion.

My first time trying this table it was very brutal, moreover could not "bip" a thing about the rules.

Was already feeling the potential though especially the awesome physics !

So I put it aside to play it latter with the proper mindset and after having "studied" the ruleset.

It was still brutal but way more manageable, ton of fun making progress !

By the way a totally innocent observation but while looking videos for the rules i've seen very nice customs drop targets with a skulls on them.

And because i know no shame i would add that i like sideblades too.

Back on topic, it's a great slow burner that i recommend to everyone liking a challenge.

Thank you once again for your dedication very much appreciated 👍

This version looks and plays great! I'm not a big fan of this Stern table design in general, but that's not on UnclePaulie. The quality of this build is fantastic!

Very interesting and unique pin from the best era. You did a great job, plays and looks very nice.
With the backglass it reminds me a bit of Banzai Run :) Thank you very much for sharing this piece of art.
