Version 2.0 by UnclePaulie 2023

This version was done with my Medusa table and other recent Bally tables as a baseline to start, since they were Bally 1981.  Built everything ground up from there.  Used a few prims and images from Goldchicco's prior table, as well as some logic.  I used EBisLit's playfield as a baseline, and Redbone did lots graphics updates to that playfield, as well as the plastics, targets, apron, flippers, and many others.  The VPW team did lots of testing and recommended that I use Circus's VR room as an option, as it has you playing on the ocean floor with fish swimming around you, so his very cool environment is also included, and is the default environment for VR users.  Thanks to Circus for permission!

Included in this Version 2.0 is Hybrid VR/desktop/cabinet modes, new playfield, VPW physics, flipper tricks, dynamic shadows, Fleep sounds, Lampz, 3D inserts, new baked general illumination lighting and AO shadows, sling corrections, drop and stand-up targets, saucer, playfield meshes, various primitives, etc.  Significant time was spent on researching online videos, to ensure accuracy of shots, ball drops, kickouts, and overall playability.  I also created a desktop backglass with a lighting effect, as well as the VR backglass (image from Hauntfreaks) and other VR options. There are also some performance improvements and I added a playfield mesh for the playfield, so there's a realistic bevel in the saucer.

Thank you to EBisLit for the playfield image, and Redbone for upscaling and cleaning up the all the images.  Thank you to Circus for the ocean VR environment.  And thank you to the VPW team for testing, especially redbone, apophis, bountybob, dgrimmreaper, studlygoorite, pinstratsdan, wylte, trytotilt, bietekwiet, astronasty, and hauntfreaks.

There are several options in the script.  Including VR rooms and environments, ball brightness, ocean environment sounds, and LUT lighting options.  The LUT changes are done by holding cntl (or left mangasave) and then while holding, scroll through the options with the right magnasave.  The Dip Switch settings are done in the script and are hardcoded.  IF... you want to change them, there's a setting in the script to manually override that, and then use F6 during gameplay to bring up the Dip Switch setting.

This is a hybrid table done in VPX 10.74 (but will run fine in 10.8), and I have code in here to automatically choose between VR, desktop, and cabinet.   Additional VR options in the script include three VR environments, a VR clock, a topper, posters, and settings for dynamic shadows if you experience a performance hit.

Thanks again to the VPW team for all the testing, Circus for the Ocean VR environment, and Redbone for all the graphics enhancements!

Released

Testing in vpx 10.8 showed a weird glow around the balls.  Reloaded the images and the issue went away.  Some image likely got corrupted in the last version.

UnclePaulie, this might be your (and the great team around you) finest work yet!!

This is an absolute GEM!!!

I have honestly never been a fan of Fathom, it just wasn't fun to me, and that sound as annoying as heck! Some recent new versions started to change that though, as they seemed to play a little better and the background throbbing didn't seem so present.

But THIS version absolutely shot me over the moon!  It plays as smooth as butter and sounds terrific! I was immediately inspired to do a Tutorial for it (link below).

The upgrades you and your team have done are amazing and it has leaped into my Top 10 favorite Virtual Tables I have (out of more than 500).

Thank you so much for your hard work!

Best version of this table i've played yet. The improvement in ball physics alone places it at the top of every other Fathom table I've played. All the script options and in particular the LUT settings are also a huge bonus. Thanks for sharing your work with us!

Literally while this was being developed I was actively wishing it would happen lol. Thanks for highlighting these great machines from this important era and making them true showcase tables in VPX, UnclePaulie. Cheers! 🍻

I never had a chance to spend any time on the real table. I grabbed this a few months ago but I had to come back to leave a review. It has become one of my favorites. Looks and plays great and is fun to play. Great work.

This table has always been a showpiece of mine for friends in VR because of the awesome environment. Now that the table has all the bells and whistles, looks, plays and feels fantastic (beautiful inserts too), I'm going to have to invite them over again. Really enjoy playing this, thanks to all involved.

Great recreation of this table, love the improvements. Spent an hour playing before I got it setup in Pinup Popper.

UnclePaulie is meticulous and accurate in his reconstructions, so this will play as close to the real deal as you can get. I've always enjoyed the challenge of this table and now I can put my skills to the test to explore it with the realistic flipper physics implemented.

Fantastic looking table, and it plays beautifully too!

It feels much different than the last version I had, which I cannot remember where I got it from, but that one was a ball drainer for sure. This one has a nice flow, and it’s still a challenging romp, but I feel like I have better control overall. I really love it!

Tested this on my desktop machine a week or so back and it is another stellar release from you @UnclePaulie - I have 3 different versions of Fathom in my cab, because I could not really decided on which to archive. Have a feeling that they all now will become just that. Looks great, and played very well, even on desktop w/regular keyboard. Very happy to see this released now. This weekend will be great with yours and VPW amazing updates. Thank you very much !

When I read UnclePaulie, I think about the best possible table conversions. And this is no exception, what an amazing job once again!

The playfield, the physics, the lights in the playfield, the SSF, the VR experience, all the small details, everything is done top notch.

Thank you UnclePaulie/EBisLit/Redbone(REALLY razorsharp graphics/playfield, looks amazing in hi-res VR!) and everyone involved for this great release.
