"Who Wants Some!"

VPW are proud to present X-Men Wolverine and Magneto Limited Edition by Stern!

This table requires at least VPX 10.7.2 and the VR version requires at least 10.8.0-514
(Download Links Below)

Niwak wanted to port this table as one of the initial experiments for the blender toolkit, and I'm hoping you'll agree it came out rather well!

We took the opportunity to upgrade it to all the latest VPW bells and whistles as well along the way!

New Options Menu *WHILE IN GAME* hold the left magnasave and tap right magnasave.

After seeing the lights on BOP and Ironman, I thought, "Wow, VPW has bridged the uncanny valley of illumination with these puppies!" Now, looking at X-men, it's a whole new ballgame.  I can't believe the richness and depth. Thank you all for the blood, sweat, and magic that goes into these amazing works!

@Dazz--FYI, for some reason I'm having a really hard time getting the stars to register on iphone or my computer when writing a review. It takes several times to get the star rating to register the mouse click. Wonder if anyone else is having the issue.

I absolutely adore this table.  Thank you @VPinWorkshop for sharing this remarkable achievement, and especially the project team that brought this beauty to life!  I am amazed by the quality of work and attention to detail evident in this table.  The blender toolkit enhancements bring VPIN to a shocking level of realism and I'm excited to witness such a revolution in redefining the edge of the possible unfolding before us (to quote a line from the opening sequence of the rare laserdisc arcade machine "Cube Quest" 😉).  This table feels like something completely new and yet immediately recognizable - It tricks the mind into accepting the virtual for the real, and this is its true charm (and also such an uncanny feeling when you realize it).

There are so many elements of realism present in this creation that I struggle to categorize them, so let me just focus on a couple:  The toys are real.  Wolverine and Magneto have simply come to life and are presented before you, to taunt your feeble playing skills.  Wolverine shimmies and shakes when the pinball strikes him, undulating as if he was freshly pulled from an injection mold and sitting on your real X-MEN LE pin.  Magneto sits perched ominously above the lower playfield bathed in reflections so real you will drain whilst admiring the details of his suit.  And the spinning disc - I personally love this feature as I love its presentation on the VPW Tron Legacy mod table as well.  However, this feels like something altogether different.  I can't quite put my finger on what makes this spinning disc unique, but there is a certain quality in the way the ball is manipulated by the disc that simply makes me suspend my disbelief that this is real (Magneto multiball is EPIC).  And the VPW Tron Legacy mod is itself a work of genius and art and I love the spinning disc presented in that table, but this is simply real.  That's perhaps what makes this table so special - it feels real.  And I can think of no higher praise to something which is not real than to suggest that it actually is - just ask Pinocchio 🙂.

This table reminds me of a living art exhibit, and it is a joy to simply watch it playing in attract mode on my arcade.  But come on - who can resist actually playing this gem for too long!  I am so thankful and grateful to all of the amazing super-talents who collaborated to bring this art to all of us, and am compelled to write this review and to share my amazement at a true work of art.  If you have not yet downloaded this masterpiece, please do so immediately and enjoy!  But caveat lector - this will consume your free time and you will be happy to oblige.

Very best,

Dylan

What can I say... I literally couldn't have chosen a better time to join VPX. This second table done with Niwak's Blender toolkit is a work of art. It is also one heck of a challenge and the VPW mod team did not hold back on making it play as realistic as possible... that means it is as fast as lightning and bricked shots spell trouble.

What a nice Table! If this is an example of what you can do with the Blender toolkit, then I'm really looking forward to the upcoming tables.

The X-Men first debuted in 1963, and the characters in this Stan Lee driven series were awkward, powerful, and ridiculed. I recall being a young man and picking up my first issue, and for me that was Chris Claremont's classic run with the new X-Men. Fast forward 40 or so years, and Stern released one of the most exciting tables I have ever played to date based on the comic characters rather than the movie, and I was hooked. Originally released in 2012, this gem garnered a lot of praise for it's layout and flow. John Borg really gave us a table to salivate after, and after Spiderman and Iron Man, this table stole the show for quite some time, and the layout has recently been used on the new Rush table. VPin Workshop has taken this incredible release, and made it nearly perfect for you to enjoy at home virtually, and you may need a visor to protect your eyes, as the level of reality on these toys and ramps and going to make you cry.

Installation: Be sure you have the latest VPX 10.72 and vpinmame 3.5, and get playing, this is an incredibly easy install, just grab a b2s or PUP and go! The new menu system is incredible, giving you options to change difficulty, mech/ramp/ball sounds, toys you can turn on, and more.

Play: Like Iron Man before this, I had not had a chance to play this one in the wild yet, and had no idea what kind of fun I was missing out on. The game features seven main villains including Juggernaut, The Brotherhood of Mutants, The Hellfire Club, Shadow King, Sabertooth, Sentinels and Omega Red. It also features a Blackbird launcher and special game modes that have played out in the excellent comic series run. This is the LE model, which came in two flavors (Wolvie and Magneto), and offered an ice slide ramp to dump the ball in varied places on the playfield, as well as a very cool Nightcrawler pop up on the table. I find the magnet simulation on the toys to be nearly perfect to what I would expect from a real magnet, well done guys!

Graphics: Holy crap, this looks AMAZING! Check out the reflections of light on the Wolverine and Magneto toys, perfection! New ramps look like they were fresh out of injection molding, and the inserts detail is top notch. You will not find a better looking table to date in my opinion, and even more awesomeness with this tech is coming. I was particularly impressed with the detail on the Nightcrawler pop-out toy as well, missed that the first few play throughs.

Conclusion: VPW was holding this one back until it was perfect, and you will NOT be disappointed. If you only grab a few tables this month, be sure this is on the top of your list!

What can you say when you see a table so well done? I've said the same things over and over again about the tables you all make and share with us. This one is on a different level visually. Dare I say it... It's on par with and exceeds the visual level of any payed table out there.

Thank you, all of you for your work and generosity.

Thanks to you guys, my wife wants us to attend couples therapy...she's convinced I'm seeing someone else.   She's right...I'm in love with VPW...where have you been all my life?  I've spent probably 10 hours the last two days updating my cab with your badasssssssssssss tables.  It's been almost a year since I've really sat down and played my cab, but with all these beautiful tables I can't step away!

Thanks for all that you guys do!

What can I say- this update takes this table from one that was occasionally playable to one of the best games on my cab, definitely a 'showpiece' table that you can leave running during a party! Thanks so much for this great table, hours of fun already 😊
