Welcome to my first VPX table!

As an avid player of Diablo 2 for the last 26 years, I knew as soon as I got the inkling to create my very own table... It had to be Diablo 2.

About 3 months of feverish work went into crafting this and I think both Diablo 2 and Pinball fans alike are going to get a real thrill out of it.

There are very helpful FULLY VOICED live tutorials IN GAME.
You must hold both flippers during attract mode to access the tutorials and then you can navigate them via the flippers.
StartGame button exits tutorials whenever and returns to attract.

Additionally, there is an extensive and detailed rulesheet PDF for your reading pleasure.
The table itself will tell you a lot about what's happening as well between lights, callouts and a deep DMD system, but the rulesheet can really ground you in the details.

All 5 iconic Acts of Diablo 2 are here to be enjoyed with each boss, music and enemies... Plus something special for the fans in the Wizard Mode/Act 6.
Like Diablo 2, this game is cutthroat, but you will be rewarded for your skill.

3 VR rooms: Mixed Reality, Minimal and a custom Mega Room I put together.

**Mixed Reality uses Magenta 255, 0, 255. If you want to change it to White or something else, all you need to do is, in the editor, search "Sphere" in the layers panel, double click it, go to its properties and scroll down to Modulate Color. Click the color box and set to whatever you want. Then save.

The artistic intention for day/night setting is about 12-13%.

Check F12 for options/feature toggles.

The table has the features VPX fans have come to expect: Nfozzy, Fleep, Flupper bumpers/flashers and a quality FlexDMD. BIG THANKS to the VPW team for their Resource table and YouTube series.

This is over 13000 lines of code and a lot of interwoven systems with basically RPG math underneath and I am just one guy with a Claude Max plan, so while the game is bug free as far as *I* know it, you may run into things as you play. I do plan to support this project going forward and possibly add more content. I have ideas. I am having my firstborn this August, and this table is in a great spot as is, so it was time to release... Oh, and DIABLO 2 RELEASED on the 28th of June in 2000... So that's fun. Celebrate that by downloading my table.

Extra special thanks to my boys @MekelburgJ and @Krobs for playtesting this for months with me and giving their feedback. They have been in this thing with me from early on. Also special thanks to @Burger for his expertise, advice and creating a B2S for you VPin folks (im all VR, sorry). The B2S is one photo, but in VR you can select from 4 backglass photos - 2 classic and 2 new.

I hope people have a blast with this and get sucked into it's systems and presentation the way my buddies and I have. Please let me know what you think in the comments/reviews. Long live Diablo 2.

Released

1.2 Changes
------------------------------------------------
***Multiplayer Added!***

2-4 players

Versus and Co-op Modes access by using Magna Save buttons during Select Difficulty menu (flippers still used to select difficulty)

Co-op tracks MVP stats and announces at the end of the game who performed best in each category. Shared world and shared progress. Shared scoring pool. Still 4 extra balls total to achieve at the standard milestones. Player who achieves it on their turn gets the extra ball. Team scores do not get posted/saved in High Scores.

MVP Stats to achieve/grind:

Feat (display label):                            Measured By:
MOST KILLS                            Enemies killed
MOST MERCENARIES           Mercenary multiballs started
MOST RUNEWORDS              Runeword multiballs started
MOST BOSS DMG                   Damage dealt to bosses
MOST LEAPS                           Leap attacks
MOST CUBE UPGRADES       Amount of open cube shots
MOST WHIRLWIND HITS       Amount of hits/kills done in Whirlwind attacks
LONGEST TURN                      Best single-turn duration (shown as MM:SS)

Versus is purely competitive and each player has their own instance of the game, score and gear. Unclaimed dropped loot is tracked/instanced per player.
------------------------------------------------

***Skillshot Added!***

Time your plunge when the cycling character light lands on the blinking character to be awarded a Skillshot bonus.

1,000,000 for the first, +1,000,000 for each consecutive hit, up to 6,000,000. The character light cycles faster at every level. A miss resets to 1,000,000 and the starting speed.

------------------------------------------------

Other changes/fixes:

Ball Save skeleton eye glow properly shows a glowing red now

Fixed an issue where Tilting during ambush would break travel progress and ruin the playthrough.

Fixed an issue where Cube would reject the ball immediately and close the lid under specific (but frequent enough) circumstances.

Shaped the character playfield lights to actually match their silhouettes

Mercenary portal drain-during-spawn. Two guards added in Drain_Hit so a live ball draining inside the ~1500ms spawn window no longer reads BIP as 0, ends the turn early, or falsely triggers the kill-streak cash-out.

Added "Blood Red" skulls visual option and changed the lighting so it doesn't track Day/Night setting as closely (making Normal skulls VERY white and clashy depending on your opinion) Blood Red is the default now (my preference), but can be swapped easily in F12.

Rulesheet PDF updated as well for Skillshots and Multiplayer info

Once again thanks for the love and please enjoy! Leave a comment/review and please let me know if you find oddities/bugs. It's a new system dealing with many game variables and I'm one tester 😃

No way this is your first table, you must have summoned some evil spirits to gain an unnatural advantage!

Totally immersive experience from the second the table appears on the screen! I love the dark sinister look and the incredible music and sounds. Fun gameplay with great physics! So glad you included such super instructions so that people lazy about learning rules (like me) have an idea what to shoot for!

It's fantastic and has a place on my cabinet, I'm actually excited over here waiting for the first wheel to come out!

Response from the author:

Thanks so much, Burger! To have you assist in getting this to the finish line and ALSO genuinely enjoy it is a real treat.

Because of NewLeaf88 sharing this table, mentioning his friend Krobs...
I came here and as for my love for Diablo 2 as well, I needed to try this out. Did not play much so far, but because it is your first table. I wanted to write a review (my first ever actually). Just wanted to push this amazing work on this platform. While playing this, you really want to start up Diablo 2 again. That says it all. You have done great work on this table! Wow!

Response from the author:

Reviews like these really put me on cloud 9, thank you so much. I just watched his gameplay! So surreal to see someone in the wild playing it. I think I'll post a developer gameplay video soon too, come to think of it...!

This table is great! lots of sound and call outs. Great modes.

Love the spoken instructions before the game.

Very well done! Superb First table! Thank you for your work on this!

Response from the author:

Thank you! I haven't had a creative project take complete hold of me in quite some time like this one has. I'm glad people see what I see in it as well. Happy demon slaying!

Fantastic.  The music, visuals, modes, and gameplay all capture that nostalgic vibe I'm sure many of us cut our teeth on back in the day.   This game will forever hold up.  This tribute is a treasure.   The replay value on this one is strong.   Deep, multiple modes and progressions.   Things really pick up the longer you play.  Its worth exploring all this table has to offer.  I sure will stay awhile and play : )   1.1 update is 🔥 too.   Performance is humming now for us with lower end rigs or formats.    Thanks Chuck!

Response from the author:

You may Standalone... But you need not stand alone... 🫡

Thanks for the testing during this update and I'm glad it's a table you're really into

Very awesome table, gonna grind some hours into it today. I absolutely LOVE that you put the “tristram” acoustic audio track in it, that is something i always play on guitar when im feeling froggy. Love that track. I joked with loadedweapon this week that i might need to put together a fully functional pup for this, me and him play diablo a lot.  Awesome work man, i volunteer to help with a pup in the future

Response from the author:

HELL yes dude. So hype that you're hype. Please, play the piss out of this table. There's a lot to sink your teeth into. A Pup sounds awesome. I don't know the first thing about making them, so more power to you. Glad it's inspiring creativity.

So good, can't believe it's your first!  Keep it up, can't have too many great tables :)

Made a B2S with full DMD for it:

It's taken me way too long to try out this table. It is really amazing how well done this is. The tutorial and the number of F12 options is very good. I'm curious to look into the table itself to see how all of these extra features were programmed. Thanks for putting this together for us!

Response from the author:

Hey thank you so much! Yeah the tutorial was a real blast to see come to life and I so badly didn't want to do instruction cards that I decided to do something far more complicated lol. I had a hunch that it was the first of its kind too and I think so far that's true. No one has stood up yet to claim otherwise.

Not sure the coding is the most efficient and is only semi-organized but it does the trick and there's a hell of a lot of it!

Thanks for the thoughts and review.

Absolutely stunning first effort. If you hadn't said it was your first no one would have ever guessed it.

I have about 300 VPX tables in my VR setup, and this has quickly become one of my favorite originals and just keeps getting better as I learn more and more of the rules and improve. The skillshot that was added last night is great, so it's also just getting better by the continued work on it. One of my favorite things about the table is that every time I have lost a ball I truly have felt like it's been my fault. I'm a big Diablo II fan, and the theme is reflected SO well in the gameplay. The art and music is placed perfectly, and the tutorial when holding both flippers is downright genius. Massive kudos and huge thanks for this! I absolutely love it.

Also, another shoutout to @ChuckRibbits for helping me troubleshoot an issue I was having that ended up having nothing to do with the table at all!

Response from the author:

This is high praise! I'm just so stoked to see new people discovering and playing my table. I wish I could be a fly on the wall for everyone's first time loading it up... But that'd be a lot of restraining orders so... Reviews will do!

Love the new multiplayer Co-op and Versus options here in v1.2. Fantastic job, can't thank you enough for gifting us such a great table to play !

This table is absolutely a blast ! what a flow, great shots, great modes, great speed , great fun...it looks like a Steve Ritchie pin at its best !

It just needs some graphical updates to make it even more appealing, but the gameplay is absolutely at levels never seen before.

I'm pretty sure that if you suggested this layout to Stern or JJP, they would definitely produce the real pinball machine.

Response from the author:

I don't know if there's a higher praise possible than this. Thank you! I hear you on the, what I assume is, a playfield criticism mainly and I agree there's room for something more visually grabbing, but I have next to no graphic design skills unfortunately. I decided to lean into my shot layout and game design strengths instead, but maybe someday someone will bring me a stellar playfield art to add.

Thrilled you're enjoying it! It's such a rush when you get things going.

Supergibson

From the second you warp through the town portal, you are thrown back into the world of Diablo 2. Fantastic job and super impressive. Deceptively simple layout and very immersive. Great music and sound too. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Response from the author:

Thanks for the support and I'm thrilled that you're enjoying it so much!

Bisous

Krobs

Congrats Mr. Ribbits on creating one hell of a table!  I know all the hard work you put into it down in the cellar :)  You created a highly addictive game that i keep going back to.   It's mind blowing this is your first project!!   Congrats again my friend 🥂🍾

Response from the author:

Krobs! You made it! 😂 You may have packed up the bin but not the pride. Thanks for the review buddy, your feedback was integral throughout as I weaved together these systems and ideas. I know the bin won't be gone for long and you'll be back to grinding for Extra Ball #2 in no time.

I may have created a Diablo 2 fan, we'll see!

deadmanworking

Hell yes, we are blessed with new originals coming out nearly every day but on such an incredibly high level. Well done, extraordinary package.

Dicentim

Great first creation, I love these tables where you immediatly understand the mission and what to aim. Very nice and readble design.

Response from the author:

That is excellent to hear. Thanks for the great review. I thought the tutorials in game would be a nice touch to just cut to the chase about what's what. Definitely worth the effort I think.

And then the table itself during play is making a lot known to the player. Glad you appreciate that.

What an awesome 1st table! Can't wait to see where this takes you, judging by your 1st effort you will be up there with the greats

Response from the author:

My goodness that's a nice thing to say. Thanks so much. Stoked that you love it!

Great stuff, goes well with Diablo III. Just hearing the sounds, music takes me way back when I use to play this game with my Dad (RIP).

Response from the author:

I love that Diablo 2 is a core memory with your Dad. I told my Dad I wanted Diablo 2 for Christmas when I was 10 and he said "you'll get what you get and you won't get upset"... (Got it anyways) Enjoy the table and the memories buddy
