Step into the lab and bring the machine to life! Released by Gottlieb in September 1986, Genesis tasks you with collecting four body parts to assemble a robot, then striking the vari-target to power up the Regenerator and witness its awakening. The playfield multiplier can climb as high as 32x during multiball as scoring compounds fast with every shot. This recreation faithfully captures the table's striking color-contrast playfield, 1980s sci-fi flair, and punishing difficulty.

Please Note: You will need the latest pre-release of VPinMame (build v3.7.0-237 or later) for this table to run properly. (not PinMame, it has to be VPinMame)

I missed that the description already specifies build 237 or later. My mistake. I initially installed the 3.7 beta build 222, which obviously wasn't new enough. A direct link to the current VPinMAME prerelease download might still make this a little harder to misunderstand.

Why so tetchy?

I don't know how not to express anger when all of the "WHOOAAAAA, AWWEEEESOMMMEEEE" commentors either didn't playtest the table long enough (if at all), or they already knew which VPinMAME to use and didn't think to instruct VPW to probably make it easier for those of us who didn't.

Just a heads-up for anyone installing this: Genesis requires VPinMAME build 237 or later. I initially installed an older 3.7 beta build because the table still launched, which made the requirement easy to misunderstand.

I also still experienced the left/Arms ramp failing to eject properly, so that may be a separate issue. Making the VPinMAME requirement and prerelease link especially prominent would probably save other users some troubleshooting.

I hate upgrading vpinmame.

Having to go through 1000 plus tables to see what broke is a nightmare.

FYI. Comments are meant to be used for expressing comments (good or bad) for the table and creators.  The "Get Support" button next to the download button is where you are meant to post support related questions.

Updating VPinMame to the stated version totally broke my whole install. I've rolled back, will have to give this one a miss I think.

OK I am a dummy so in case there is more of me.  If you install the latest VPinMame over an existing version you must drop all files from the zip into you existing VPinMame folder, then run the SetUp64.exe.  I was thinking it was an install package and just ran it from my downloads folder and of course didnt work cause of supporting files not updated (even though it told me it was running the latest version).  PS Sorry I know this is not the support forum.

Maybe you shouldn't take a message board that seriously to become angry or dictate what's "important" or not in its comment section.
Also maybe if you ever release your own content you'd think differently, the devs  and builders are providing everything here FOR FREE so positive feedback is the ONLY reward in this hobby and more valuable than, say, someone flooding the comment section with a problem that couldve solved itself by reading the description properly...

I never said people shouldn’t compliment the developers. I said substantive feedback is more useful than repetitive filler, especially in a release thread where people are reporting bugs and setup issues. Free work can still benefit from clear documentation and troubleshooting feedback.

And sometimes the person saying something different from the crowd is more useful than another person repeating the same praise everyone else already gave. That doesn’t make the praise wrong. It just means criticism and disagreement can add information that wasn’t already there.

Updating is the easy part. Painstakingly going through thousands of tables to see what vpinmame broke is a nightmare.😭

I see talk about thanking for the work that is done by all authors on this site.

I think the issue is many who just download and never really put a comment of praise atall.

Hopefully if you find an issue, you provide a clear bug report on GitHub. That way everyone benefits. The guys constantly fixing stuff for us are the ones we should be thanking :)

Sorry. I do appreciate everyone's hard work! You guys rock🎸

It's going to be a long week going through all my tables after upgrading!😓

Absolutely! I reported "Al's Garage Band Goes On A World Tour" crashing the last time I upgraded vpinmame.

I don’t think gratitude and useful comments are mutually exclusive. I’m not against thanking the authors at all. I just think “Awesome table! Thanks!” repeated over and over adds very little to a release thread.

Something like “Thanks, VPW. The lighting looks fantastic, the robot presentation is great, and the physics feel excellent” still shows appreciation while also saying something specific and useful.

My issue isn’t with praise. It’s with generic filler praise drowning out bug reports, setup information, and actual discussion.

So you've spammed the comments complaining about other's kindness potentially taking attention away from a problem you are having?! FFS

Firstly, there's a specific section for issues in the 'Get Support' section, so it's YOUR comment that could be criticised. Secondly, there is a review section for more detailed assessments, or words of appreciation, once people have loaded up and played the game.

The whole point of the comments section is for general comments and appreciation - appreciation that, even if there is the occasional bug (understandable when they are providing software for a multitude of set-ups), a group of talented individuals have worked hundreds of hours to produce a product for the community FOR FREE. If you have an issue with respectful, appreciative comments (that you describe as 'repetitive filler'), then remember it's not all about you. As others have said, words of gratitude are pretty much the only way the community can express appreciation - and the only reward for the generosity of talented contributors (aside from the odd financial donation that is ploughed back into the hobby).

I sincerely hope VPW (and all other contributors to this amazing hobby) realise that the majority of users fully appreciate all the hard work and talent involved, and that the occasional self-centered response is not reflective of the wider community.

Conversely some introspection may be warranted.

If 100 people have said "awesome, great work", and 1 person says "it doesn't work, your table is broken" after not following the original instructions and not realising that it might possibly be something they've done wrong, then that in itself is telling.

This happens on every one of our releases.

There are a lot of great "how to" tutorials out there, youtube is literally full of them, should we ourselves include a whole suite of "how to make virtual pinball work for your setup!" videos and instructions on each machine release? We normally go out of our way in our releases to say "YOU MUST HAVE THIS" in the details to head off issues like this, but when you buy a game from steam do the instructions tell you how to install windows, steam, graphics drivers and all that jazz? A base level of competence is expected when downloading a table, we as machine authors could either spend more time writing replies like this and providing detailed individual support, or we could be doing something actually fun with our free time like making cool new shit.

We *have* made quite a lot of tutorials for specialist things which we think very few other people would know how to explain which live on our youtube channel, but these are totally centered specially around machine development.

It's nice when people say thanks and we don't care what form it takes, "generic filler praise" is better than radio silence after presenting your baby to the void, we don't ask for anything in return (and even if people do donate, 100% of anything received goes into buying assets to scan to make new tables etc.). Feedback is great and normally in very short supply, if you ask people to leave detailed responses then people won't even bother and you'll just get nothing (have you ever quit out of a survey after the first page when it says page 1 of 30? yes, yes you have).

This is a fun hobby to be involved in, try and not get needlessly upset by small things, if you have to then think of the fiddling around and complex(?) setup as the "price of entry" to a massive free community,

Have a great weekend,

Six.

Some people don't know all the stuff happening behind the scenes. We have been working on this for almost 2 years. Delayed a few times because of the emulation issues, like the cursed kicker that never would kick the ball and be stuck in an endless loop. Then also we added new features like PWM, wich was not possible on sys80 tables in VPM 3.6.

Also it looks like 3.7 will be prepared for a release, so why not have the community involved? Maybe together we can figure out if other games got broken so we can create reports for those. In the end we all as a community need to support the latest stuff that gets added. The evolution of VPinMame is a never ending story. Having the entire community invlolved will help make the end product better for all of us as well.

EDIT:  Quoted wrong person and dunno how to fix it. Was replying to CrisUK above.

In what way did it break it? Did many other tables not work?

I'm not being sarcastic. I tend not to use betas or early release for this exact reason.
I've just played around with this new table, but did not update VPinMame as instructed. Plays fine except for the scoring getting stuck in a loop on the ARMS drop section. This must be to do with not following instructions. Apart from that very impressed.

For now I will leave the table installed but wait on VPInMame a little.
