The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all.

The VPin Workshop Fellowship proudly presents an entirely reimagined and originally illustrated Lord of the Rings pinball experience.

Ver 1.4 Notes;

VPX 10.8 is required now. Refractions added to the sword! Added in-game options menu with lots of features. New options include PWM flashers and movable outlane difficulty post settings. Some minor visual and physics improvements. Most images resaved as lossless webp to save some space.

Ver 1.3 Notes;

Among other things this should help a lot with anyone who was getting white texture issues and fix some stuttering issues for some people.

Ver 1.1 Notes;
LOTR was designed in 10.6 (as are 99% of our tables) and this time converted to 10.7 on the very last revision so that we could use webp image support to cut the file size down to almost 1/4 of the size. However it seems that there are numerous issues with how 10.7 deals with either large textures, large file sizes or something else, which has resulted in the white textures reported. We're looking into why this happens and will work with the VPX devs in any way we can.
These bugs, combined with 10.7 not being fully compatible with VR yet have led to us to revert to 10.6 (as all of our previous files have been).
Other fixes including minor physics repositioning and cabinet mode tweaks.

The journey began when we received an excellent playfield scan, but soon found ourselves wanting to drastically change the artwork. So began the long journey into the depths of Mordor, where many challenges were encountered and overcome. The table is entirely rebuilt, with much effort spent toward making it as physically accurate as possible. All the figurines have been scanned from the actual pinball toys. The table is exquisitely modelled and raytraced, with special visual features added to some modes to enhance the drama.

Your quest through this game will not be easy, but we hope it will be enjoyable!

Wow, first thing I noticed was the weight of the ball, not many tables hit it out of the park like this, I love playing it, everything about it is awesome. The glass sword is a sight to behold, especially in VR and the SSF is perfect. The VR, with toys intact, is a real spectacle and plays smooth like butter. Great job team, thanks for sharing this baby! Astronasty, I use the pup pack for VPX and your backglass for VR, the artwork is fantastic all around!!

This is the remake I have been waiting on since the first week I installed VPX.  Before I even knew who VPW was, I wanted a better LOTR, then after I learned about VPW I wanted them specifically to do this thing.

Worth the wait.  Table and new back glass are gorgeous, especially that Gimli down by the left sling.  Love the default flippers and the overall physics and feedback are superb.  The glowing sword is bad ass.

There are many version of this table, but this one was forged in the fires of mount Doom to rule them all!

VPW stands for: Virtual Pinheads on Whiskey (I watched the release stream)!

In all seriousness : It is an incredible recreation, both visually, table sounds, physics, it's all there

The glass sword is fantastic: it looks great (lights up!) and we can see the ball in the inlane at all times.

Thank you so much, guys!

How in the hell can you make a turd into something beautiful ? By fixing/replacing the Stern bullshit low quality PF of course.

You are so wrong on this @BambiPlattfuss

I prefer good original pinball art. When such is not available; for some Gottlieb backglasses pr. example, I have no problem changing it out for something that is actually decent.

This re-creation is awesome in all ways. Like you say, plays like a dream - and now even looks great too.

It's a very beautiful reimagining. The only element I'm not a fan of is the Rings of Power voiceover on startup, but that can be disabled by setting Startaudio = 0 in the script.

Amazing transformation of the table. I really feel like playing this table with this new version. The 3D toys are great, and the new sword fits in great with the table and theme.

Update: So I started to notice that I was getting pissed off with the ball draining, to the point I was starting to purposely "Tilt" the table - "Yeah, I'll show you..."  ha ha ha  - also had my body language change a lot, you know, swing my leg out, trying to make a shot  -  What all this means is the simulation of this table is so good that I play it like a real table!

thanks @VPinWorkshop

I have just gone through both the 64bit and VP10.8 upgrade path and am (once again) catching up on tables.  Apparently I'd miss a stellar release last year because until last night, I don't recall trying the previous versions of this VPW release.

so my thoughts?  Well I'm completely blown away.  I understand that some may miss the original photoshop job playfield from the original Stern table but IMHO the VPW treatment is a huge improvement.  If I had both, I'd be going with this one.  Not only does it look great (that sword!!!) but it plays so hard in all the right way.  The one item most casual players seem to misunderstand about pinball is that missed shots should punish the players and this table does just that!  This in turn really gives (well me anyway) the desire to retry again and again because the lost balls like they are on me and not on the game itself.

Well done.  I really need to revisit all the VPW releases to ensure I have the latest versions of all of them.  What a stellar achievement for what many feel was Stern's first great table consisting of a deep ruleset

Absolutely stunning! I quite often just leave it playing on my vpin when guests come over! They are all attracted to the sounds and lights coming from the vpin. Everybody always wants to have a game! Thankyou so much for this gem!

Love the look and feel of this table and I'm not really a huge LOTR fan. The little touches and big ones like the toys from the actual machine, the cool litup sword, it all boils down to a fun and engaging flip. My only real constructive criticism after playing a dozen or so games is that there isn't really any background sounds, only the rolling ball and flipper. Maybe there is a pup pack I need for this one to get that, certainly not a mark down to the rating. This one we are featuring in our PGM gaming group.

Thank you to all involved for your time and effort.

Pfff, this is insane..... the last couple of days i have been revisiting VPX, discovering that the physics of so many tables have become so much better, it's unbelievable. And what I for instance see with this table is so freaking awesome, i have no words for it.  The looks of the table in conjunction with the game play is so damn statisfying! Thanks a lot !

Just sensational! 🔥

So glad you decided to ditch the god awful pf artwork of the physical table. The custom artwork is gorgeous.

Hats off to all involved in the VPW team 🎩

Being a fan of Tolkien's work and a Kung-Fu Master in Arda lore, this table was bound to be one of my favorites.  It plays smooth and the mechanics feel very real.  I came to learn very quickly that VPW was a name associated with excellence.  Yet another hit here.

It's the first time i keep a "modded graphic" table on my pincab.
I usually loves when tables are as possible accurate to reality.

But your team work is amazing !

Well done and thank's to everyone in the team, and especially thank's Astronasty for this beautiful artwork !

Comment from my girlfriend "people who bought the real LOTR pinball must be really disappointed now" ! 🤣

Superb job.  I'm floored by how much work y'all are putting into these tables.  This is such a classic table and I'm generally a little of a purist (only in that I tend to prefer meticulous recreations over artistic re-imaginings), but this just looks stunning to me everywhere I look.  And that glass sword is so nice.  Brilliant idea.

Plays beautifully too.  Ball seems heavier, and I can't 'cheat' the Path of the Dead like I used to on the other versions, making this one a good bit harder to qualify ROTK.  Love it.  Thank you VPW and all involved :)

This table is amazing, and I can't believe how much work has gone into such one table. Cheers to everyone that was involved, Sensational work and always appreciate how much goes into this hobby. :)

Finally, a superb version of LOTR! I love this table so much but there wasn't any good version out there, only average ones at best. A VPW version is of course the best there is!

This is the best vpx table ever released.  I am not biased.

It would be better if it was Inspector Gadget themed.

Unfortunately it doesn´t have the real Artwork and Inserts were placed different - so for me this is far away from a perfect Version.

It plays awesomely good yeah but the thing with different Art is an absolute bummer for me and thats why i dont´like this Version.

Imo the team could have been made an awesome Lotr recreation with all their talent - a Version finally as it should be and i hope that they in future are going to do so and then i will hapily give a 5 Stars review also
