NOTE: This download includes an NVRAM file that resets the Flip-O-Meter “fastest flip-to-date” score back to zero. This allows players to set and compete against a fresh high-speed record rather than inheriting an existing value from the ROM. Thanks Thalamus!

ENTER THE VECTORDOME AND PLAY BALLY'S GAME OF THE FUTURE

Vector is Bally’s ambitious early-80s take on a “game of the future,” built around a bi-level playfield, four flippers, and a rule set that strongly rewards accuracy/nudging. Guided by the PAC (Play Analysis Computer), the main objective is to access the Vectorscan ramp and build towards your MultiBall.

The Vectorscan ramp is the signature shot. A successful flip is measured by the Flip-O-Meter, which converts shot speed directly into points and tracks the fastest flip-to-date. Beating that record awards a Special, while the Bonus Light uses the same display to show your Vectorscan bonus.

Entry to the ramp is guarded by the Defender drop targets. Completing Defenders 1–3 in sequence qualifies the top saucers for locked balls, while out-of-sequence hits require additional targets to be cleared. The upper playfield’s X-Y-Z targets can remotely drop the Defender targets.

Vector is known for being tough. Many objectives require shots in sequence, making full 3-ball Multi-Ball a real challenge. At the same time, the lower playfield side saucers give skilled nudgers a chance to recover balls that would normally drain, adding an extra layer of control if you’re paying attention.

Visually, Vector benefits from a darker overall environment, which helps the bi-level playfield stand out and makes the Vectorscan ramp and Flip-O-Meter feel more dramatic. That’s how I prefer to play it, but brighter lighting options are included and can be adjusted in the table settings for players who prefer a more evenly lit or classic look. Dip switches are set to the factory-recommended default settings for authenticity. Updating line 62 for SetDIPSwitches=1 allows for adjustments using the F6 menu.

A big thanks to DGrimmReaper for his work on the VR cabinet and room, and to Hauntfreaks for the awesome backglass (link provided). Thanks as well to Sinbad and Schlabber34 for their previous work on the original Vector VPX table, which this release builds upon.

Features include:

  • VLM  toolkit visuals
  • Nfozzy physics
  • Fleep sounds
  • Desktop, Cabinet, and VR modes

Incredible, this table with it's realistic VLM lighting takes this table to a whole new level. One minor thing to critique though, aren't the lower flipper bats wrong for this table? It's supposed to have the yellow/white bally ones like you'd see on a fathom or in the promo art instead of the red/white gottleib style ones.

A lot had red rubbers on the flipper bats

I owned a real vector a few years ago so I can’t wait to try this out. Previous version was very good so happy to hear there seems to be even more improvements.  Cant wait to see the orbit lights lit

Table looks and plays awesome! I am having a few problems with this one though. Not sure if its me problem or a bug of sorts, but what is happening is after I play the first ball, the proceeding ones get stuck on the plunger as they try to feed into the launch lane. It's like the plunger doesn't set back far enough into the correct spot after launching the first ball. Also, I can actually see the outline of the balls through the info card. Any ideas? See screenshot attached.

Just for debugging, are you playing on Standalone VPX?

I'm playing on VPX v10.8.0 Final rev 2051 in cabinet mode through popper. But it does the same thing if I play directly through VPX as well without launching through a front end..

Beautiful table! I noticed that sometimes the flippers stay upwards. I use the final vpx 10.8 and vpinmame 3.7 beta

This a table that looks great and plays very smoothly, seems like a very light load on my old PC hardware despite the advanced visuals.

I did increase the table slope though (to 5 min/max at the moment), because I feel that the default 4.3 (3.8 min/4.8 max/50 difficulty) is on the low side.

I've checked a good number of VPX recreations of tables from the same era and almost all of them feature a slope between 5 and 5.5; one exception is VPW's Time Fantasy (4.5) which also seems rather floaty, perhaps intentionally so.

NB: I haven't noticed balls getting stuck in the shooter lane, but I do see that there is a bit of friction based movement of the ball when it's loaded on top of the plunger.

The ball also hangs one time at this spot. I dont know if thats suppose to happen but i could nudge it away. Sorry for my comments but really like this table!
