Pirates Life 2.1 has a random ship selection throughout the game which opens up the game to enjoy more of Andre Pena's wise cracking callouts. There are two download options  for either Epic Metal and Split Enz Versions. 2 & 3 Screen Backglasses arena the backglass and media download as well as a comprehensive ruleset.

If you are playing VR My scripting is set to use JP's flashers for the DMD so change True to False in line 246 of the script (as below)

 UseFlexDMD = False

Also for VR users Pirates Life2.1b- EpicMetal has a bug fix for siderail name crash. There are no changes to the PiratesLife2.1b-SplitEnz Version from version 2.1a. Just keeping game names in alignment.

Pirates Life-The revenge of Cecil Hoggleston is an original game based on the story of an unfortunate lad who grows up to be the most fearsome pirate on the high seas and avenges his foes.  The game can be played by players of all levels with selection of easy or hard modes with 3 or 5 ball options. This version has a mega Pirate ship VR Room, new desktop and cabinet play looks. In the downloads you can find both Epic Metal and SplitEnz versions for Desktop/VR and cabinet modes. If playing desktop or cabinet ensure that the included .ini file is placed in the Tables folder. Also included in the downloads is a 2 & 3 screen backglasses, art pack and rules with lots of gameplay pictures. See below a link below to the youtube video where I explain the the gameplays and give you  game overview. The game has 8 modes to play, 9 ships to sink with plenty of music changes and callouts to keep you entertained. Epic metal music is kindly provided to you by Finish Composer Antii Martikainen and the incredible attract music, Hunting Pirates, is done by Finish metal group Turisas. Please check out their albums on Band Camp and any support you can give them is greatly appreciated. The game was designed around Split Enz music and pleased to provide updated versions with the original sound track. Please support this artist. The animations of the canon, shark, parrot, bobbing drunk skeleton and the dirty creature are all done by JP Salas. Beautiful transparent ramps are done by Tomate and DOF is done by Outhere. Smaug and Gramps chip in with some amusing callouts and Sixtoes was with me for the entire project providing timely advices and neat ideas. Topping off an incredible group of people who have worked on this game includes voice actor Andre Pena who does voices forScurvy Dick, Barba Blanka and the scumbag sailor. You can also checkout Andre's work with his role as Louis in resident Evil 4 zombie bang em up blockbuster game.

Before starting the game ensure you take advantage of the Lut suitable for your monitor. Hold down left magna save and change the Lut with the right magna save.

Pirates Life 1.0.6  has the original soundtrack by Split Enz and will take you on a different more relaxed journey and into the world Cecil Hoggleston via different path.

Spend 13 minutes to watch the video and learn the game. There is more in it than meets the eye.

This is an overview of the game and there is a set of rules and story in the downloads

The game is made with v10.8.0 Beta(Rev 1807(39824d6) 64 bit freezy 2.2.1.0 and flex DMD 1.9.0.0, VPinMame 3.6 & latest Backglass server B2S 2.03

For those who are struggling to get their software going, this is a link to my current, relevant VPinMame & VPinball files. You are welcome to try at your own risk. Please be aware that I am not running everything latest. For some reason I have conflicts with the RC3 and Freezy 2.2.2 and Flex DMD 1.9.1 and haven't had time to investigate this. if anyone can teach please leave your insights in the comments section.

vPinball Files working for RusstyT 2-6-24.zip

Always make sure you do a backup and always copy across the scripts. I don't recommend replacing your current 3.6VPinMame setup.exe and setup64.exe files. Thats is why I have placed them seperate to the other files.

Note: The game is designed to run JPs flashers in Desktop and VR & I do not recommend using the flex dmd option for playing with these methods.

If Playing VR change line 195 of the script to VRRoom=1

Incorporated in the Game are;

Easy and hard modes with 3 ball or 5 ball options

nFozzy Physics

Fleep Sounds

Luts

Virtual Reality

I love this great table! Beautiful artwork and design, and it's always refreshing to see a true original creation with attention to detail on every aspect of a pinball table, instead of just a reskin of something old. Thanks for the great work!

Response from the author:

Pleasure WaRcLaW. Thankyou for taking time to show your appreciation. Now raise the sails we have treasure to collect. :)

Wow, Great work and beautiful art for DMD and Backglass

Cool graphics on playfield.

I have my opinion about some original tables that use too many CG objects on playfield that becames the tables better to play in Desktop mode as game and shows sometimes like Pinball FX.

I play most times on Cabinet mode where the Pinball feeling is almost real and some the original tables loose that perception because there are too many CG objects view in 3D mode. Not so much for 2D.

But this table is very cool and better in VR.

Thank you so much for your great table.

Response from the author:

Thankyou for posting. A major design consideration in my work is that the view does not obscure what I was aiming at. The invisible ramp from the plank is a big part of of keeping the playfield view open as are Tomate's incredible transparent ramps. All the best and raise the sails sailor. We have treasure to collect. :)

Train wheels runnin' thru the back of my memory,
When I ran on the hilltop following a pack of wild geese.
Someday, everything is gonna be smooth like a rhapsody,
When I paint my masterpiece.

......

It sure is.  Amazing.

Response from the author:

I hope so. I hear you. thankyou

It's really fun.  I really like sinking the ships.  Makes you want to continue playing until you get them all.
Entertaining table.

Response from the author:

Thankyou Rubberman. There is a super bonus for completing ships so raise the sails and blow them suckers out of the water. :)

When the game resets you blow em out of the water again. Every ship sunk is added to the en of ball bonus so the game never stops.  Same applies to modes. All the best mate and I'm glad you are having fun. :)

An absolute gem!  This table quickly became a favorite that my wife and I battle it out on!   Exploring all the challenges and missions is a lot of fun.  Great sounds and visuals make it even better.    At first I thought it was too screaming fast for us to enjoy but by end of game 1 it just felt like the right speed.  Even the music at first I thought seemed not "piratey" enough but somehow quickly synced up in my brain and I swear it creates a calm rhythm in my brain for playing the table.   We play it on a 4k 3 screen cab she and I built last year and it feels like it could be a real table.

Response from the author:

Fsmurac. Man You've done my heart proud that you gave the game a chance and found the joy that I designed it with. Particularly that you and your wife are battling makes it more special. I thoroughly recommend you watch the 13 minute video where I explain the game. Your enjoyment will increase many times over. This game never ends. Thankyou for sharing your review. Now get back on deck sailors, we have treasure to collect. :)

Thankyou so much for your hard work and effort. It is an awesome addition to my vpin collection. Absolutely love it!

Response from the author:

Thankyou Blake. I'm so grateful that you took time to say thankyou and how much you are enjoying Pirates Life. A smile and gesture of good will makes my world much better place. I'd like to share that it's worth while to watch the game play video in the blurb as there is so much that can happen in the game and there is very little to compare it to0. It never ends. Raise the sails and button down the hatches. We are in for nasty weather. Arrrrr! :)

Great game and great music (thought the initial tune must be an old Crowded House song, but now I realise it's Split Enz). I really enjoyed playing through the missions. Thanks for making this and sharing it.

Response from the author:

Wow! you are on the money Huwman. "Walk away from it" is the opening song in the game was one of the last songs that Split Enz did before Neil moved on to Crowded house. All the songs in the game are from the spellbound double album.

Thanks for leaving your comment. Nice to share the moment with you and thankyou :)

This is a total breath of fresh air.

Huge congratulations on this release.

I didnt know it was coming and it has pushed me off the plank! :)

I love it. It plays and flows fantastic.

I like the music too.

A very enjoyable table which is my favourite of the year.

Well done to all involved and thanks again!

Dom.

Response from the author:

Hey Dr Nobody. Thank you for the review and words of appreciation. It makes it all worthwhile and I'm glad you are enjoying it.  There is video in the blurb that has an explanation of the gameplays and in the rules there is a wee story in the rules that explains the unfortunate life of Cecil Hoggleston and why he became the most fearsome pirate upon the seas. Have an extra ball on me. (Every second ship sunk lights extra ball).😉

I love it!  The graphics are top notch, love the missions and despite what others are saying, I truly enjoy the music, its catchy and reminds me of when I was working at Aladdin's Castle and hearing all the 80s music being blasted in the arcade.  Keep up the amazing work!

Response from the author:

Hey Tron, I really appreciate the shoutout. I'm fully aware the game is polarising and man it is so good to feel the love. thanks brother and crank it up

Omg.  I love anything pirate related. Was very excited to see this table and load it up!  Everything from the layout to artwork to playability to ingame sounds is phenomenal.  The amount of work that went into this must have been huge - as with any release.  Unfortunately I am really getting hung up on the music.  Instead of being pirate-ish battle/cinematic/etc bgm music - we are getting pirate/pop background music, I am having a hard time getting into this.   I want to play the table so bad, but am getting hung up on music that just doesn't fit.  Hopefully there will be a mod, 2.0, script options to change the music in the future.  I want to raid, pillage and plunder, but can't do it with pirate-pop music.

Response from the author:

The game is very polarising and that's probably a good thing. People have produced alternate song lists which they are welcome to share via personal message. I'll put a note at the start of the game warning people this is not Pirates of the Caribbean.

Under  Jolly Roger! What a blast this table is. So much love and humor went into this production. In every corner there is a new surprise waiting. The missions are extremely fun and varied. I laughed my ass of during the tavern mission with the burping pirates, and there are talking parrots and cannons firing too!   Voice acting is  the best I´ve heard in an original table in a long time, and the music is just awesome. Rebellious and catchy tunes that really fits this table. Please make a spotify playlist, or even better...release it on vinyl!  This is basically the perfect pinball table for the summer of 24. I shall enter the high seas again and again. Thank you so much for your amazing work @RusstyT !!

Response from the author:

Thanks for sharing this review. It means a lot. You understand its quirkiness in its entirety and the joy that I hoped it would bring. The game is totally meant to make players feel uplifted and have a laugh regardless of ability. So glad you you pointed out the callouts. They make me chuckle. Its just one big piss take. The voice actor is a young Canadian guy, Andre Pena who also did the voice and animation acting for the character Louis in the 2023 remake of of the video game resident evil 4.

I've written a brief story in the rules and each picture of the ships has a description of the relationship of Captain Picklejars relationship to the character. The game is real quirky because its  just a story  that came about spit balling ideas with a mate and trying to make each other laugh by making up a story about a fearsome pirate captain and how it came to be. It just became more and more bizarre and we were rolling. That is the life of Cecil Hoggleston and the old snap and pop. Arrrrrr now back on deck. Okithenu Jimmy! have fun mate and have an extra ball on me.

A total home run for Rusty and his dev team. Inventive, creative, with very keen attention to quality, artwork, sound-track, theming, detail, originality and masterful execution of all ideas. I have a great appreciation for the path Rusty is on so will add in my thanks for another awesome table. Well done Rusty !! -mrjcrane.

Great original table, good physics, wonderful visuals and lots of details, such imagination (I love the singing seagull, the spinning bumpers, the central save, the burping skeletons....). A big thank you to the entire Avago team and congratulations on this achievement. 👍😍

I really enjoyed my first 10 or so plays of this. Layout is fantastic. It is very fun to flip.

Constructive Criticism: With high scores set in the billions it is tough to track my progression. I prefer non-rom originals to have preset high scores set very low so I can get a score and watch my score improve as I learn and get better. Default 2 billion, 1 Billion, 750 million, and 500 million compared to my 20.8 million. Now I have to remember instead of setting it and beating it.

Thank you again for yet another great creation.

Response from the author:

That's a good point meatball. I have a better idea where the game sits with scores and Ill adjust the Hi scores starting at 250million for the next update. I've scored 800 million but it is possible to go much higher. The ships and modes reset after completion and the end of ball bonus counter continues to increase with every further ship sunk or mode completed. technically the game has no end.

Thanks for this fun table, who doesn't like a pirate theme.  Nicely laid out with great graphics, lighting and action.  Play is lively and smooth.  Gonna spend some time with this one.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr RusstyT and his team does it again!!!  I didn't think that anything could beat Time Lord.........a table I loved so much that I had my virtual cab theme based on it...but, Pirates Life just might do it.  The story, the music, the call-outs by Andre and Russ, the beautiful graphics, the "action", the mode, are all incredible and fun.

Polly and The Tavern are my favorite modes.  They both make me laugh, especially the pirate skeletons that pop up in The Tavern mode.  They actually belch when you hit them.  There is an actual cannon that can fire the ball.  I remember that the first time I played, I thought the ball had gone down the left outlane only to be delighted that it had caught by the cannon which I could fire at various targets.

The ships are beautiful and its fun watching their damage, from cannon fire, progress until they go down in flames sending the captain, and all aboard to Davey Jone's Locker you collect the reward on their lives.

You can jump right in and play, like I usually do, or you can read the rules included in the download titled "RULES-Don't Read"....Russ humor :)  The game appears to be rather simple at first, but I can assure you, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.  The rules include the story of "The Revenge of Cecil Hoggleston"  If you don't read anything, read the story and the Pirates profiles.  I urge you to read the whole set of rules to get much more enjoyment out of the games.

In all fairness, I should confess that I may be a wee bit bias as the ship and pirate "The Bruce" is me (I'm not that bad in real life :).  And I was honored to do a couple of the callouts when my ship sinks.  I've never posed for a game nor done callouts.  That was so much fun.  Thank you, Russ for including me.

I hope Pirates Life becomes one of your favorites as it has mine.  And, if you've never played Time Lord, I urge you to check  it out too.  I can't wait to see what RustyT come out with next!!!  And thanks for a fun table, Russ!!!!

Response from the author:

Thankyou Gramps. There are some nice elements in the game from your suggestions. The eliminated overlay, the fantastic music changes and light shows when major events occur. It's been a good journey now off to the Tavern. Arrrrrrrrr!

Oh wow! That was unexpected!

Simply great I am thrilled. I have set up the table on my desktop

and then played with growing enthusiasm.

O.k.: I had to change the very beautiful b2s so that everything shines in gold colors - Pirates Life 😃

Only the music selection could be more Caribbean in my opinion and without singing only music.

To all those involved in this table: Thank you !!!
