Moon Shot (Chicago Coin 1969) - Loading

    By cerebusk

    Format: 1080p60

This video is built from elements of the game's backglass superimposed over the top of the famous photo "Earthrise" that was taken by Apollo 8, a photo that is a record of the first time humanity ever saw this view.

The audio is from a remix of a song called "Earthrise" by Starset, a very earnest rock outfit that I had never heard of until I was looking for a song to go with this video.  From the comments on the video, Starset's superpower appears to be causing a certain type of person to cry with joy/fall in love/plan the music for their wedding or have some other similar ecstatic emotional response.

I'm not sure why I'm telling you all this, except maybe to warn you that this video sets expectations that you are not likely to experience while actually playing the table, which is a fairly basic EM with an art theme that takes advantage of the popularity of space exploration in 1969.

This video is a minor rework of my video for Duotron, which is the two-player version of this table.  I also used a different version of the song "Powerhouse" for the audio cue.  This version is performed by Michael Whelan.

This is the same table as Stern's Meteor, but uses a slightly different logo.  That updated logo is the only change from the Stern version of this video.

Note: this game often shows up under the manufacturer's other names Unidesa or Cirsa.  I picked Stargame since that was the name on the backglass I started with.

The video is made from the game's backglass.  The music is "The March of Mephisto" by Kamelot.

OK, so this loading video may not have an obvious connection to the game in question, but hear me out:

The Metropolis pinball game came out in 1982, the same year as the art film Koyaanisqatsi.  The artwork for the pinball machine shows a large city but hints that something bad is getting ready to happen (or is happening already - look no further than the giant woman with tattered clothes and a laser gun ready to shoot to see what I mean).  Koyaanisqatsi is a sort of visual tone poem, hinting that there may be something bad happening with our own modern metropolises - and suggests that we may have to eventually escape into space to get away from our mistakes (or maybe the film is saying that our problems are already infecting space, I'm actually not clear on this point.)

Anyway, the video consists of several short clips from different parts of the movie plus a short clip of Philip Glass' extraordinary score from yet another part of the film.  I did at least use the game's logo.

This video is made from the game's backglass and yes, more lightning bolts, which is an effect I've been using a lot lately.  They are present in the game's artwork, though, so why not?

For the music, you have two choices:  The main version, which uses a clip from the song "Neverlight" by Tarja.  Or, you can choose the ALT version, which uses music from the game's ROM.  Personally, I picked "Neverlight," but I can understand why others might want the authentic music.

The video is built from a few elements of the game's backglass.  The rest is stock video and footage from a starfield generator that is set up to mimic the early evening sky over the US on December 8, 2022.  I didn't realize the professional video editors used this kind of tool, but I guess it makes sense because otherwise you might have Neil Degrasse Tyson talking crap about your movie because the night sky is anachronous.  I did turn up the brightness-to-magnitude knob so you could see a lot more stars, though.  Come at me, Dr. Tyson!

The audio is made from a sample of the game's coin insert sound and the music track is "Beyond the Stars" by Meteor.

For this video, I used the logo from the backglass and photos of the real Mata Hari, who was famously executed as a spy during the first world war.  The music is Efendi's "Mata Hari", which was Azerbaijan's entry into Eurovision 2021.

The video clip is from (obviously) Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.  But you get Kenneth Branagh doing some sweaty, muscle-ly overacting and Robert DeNiro rising from the slightly stupefied dead in only 15 seconds.  What more could you ask for?

The DMD video is in 1024x256, which is the smallest 4:1 video you can output from Resolve.  It looks pretty good on my PinDMD (although the readability of the words "Mary Shelley's" is pretty low.  It's got lightning strikes, though, so that makes up for it!
