Silent Hill - new ray cast ball shadows, new shadowmaps, new lighting, and yet another new look:

After playing around with BAM's new features here's what I've done:

- new lighting... dynamic (real) lights for almost everything (except inserts, can't do that)
- new playfield look, changed bottom inserts, new center art
- enabled new ray cast dynamic ball shadows which are effected by almost all lights on the table
- added shadowmaps to most lights
- added "baked in" ramps / wireramps shadows on the playfield and plastic for the main ambient / room light
(used BAM to create the shadows image from the main ambient light).
- normally the playfield shadows (for the ambient light) don't need to be baked in on a "normal table"... but I change up the playfield and wireramps / ramps to different ones during different parts of gameplay, which made this necassary

Limitations:

- ray cast ball shadows are rendered as part of the playfield texture (its not a separate layer)... so that means it won't render over holes (thats a good thing).... but this also means that it won't render over a separate decals layer or overlays on the PF that are not part of the playfield image
- it also means ball shadows can't render on the plastics layer
- i can only display 7 dynamic lights at one time (FP limitation)... but I can have as many as I want on the table

That said.... this looks SO much better... and the other levels in the game look even better!

When I'm done this update I'll probably have a before / after video that shows the other levels off. Then afterward I'll have a playthrough of the new Grand Hotel levels. Then it's on to the hospital level... with the nurses.

Stunning new BAM Ray Cast Ball shadows, lighting, FLEEP sounds... and new look (again)

BAM's latest update allows for stunning new Ray Cast ball shadows for any light. I combined this with new shadowmaps and new updated dynamic lighting to create a stunning new visual look Silent Hill.

I've also been able to upgrade the mechanical sounds thanks to the generosity of FLEEP and his professional quality sounds! Simply stunning in SSF!

I've been sick for the last 2+ months, so I haven't been able to get as much done as I would like... but progress is still pushing on... and I'm loving the results!

This video demo shows off the new feature nicely. It also shows my updates for all the other levels, and gives a sneak peek at the new levels for the Grand Hotel, Sacrificial Chamber, and Church.

A complete playthrough demo of the Grand Hotel levels is coming soon.

Silent Hill (PinEvent) - The Grand Hotel - full gameplay

(note - graphic content included)

The next chapter of Silent Hill (PinEvent) takes us to the mysteries of The Grand Hotel, Room 111, and the Sacrificial Chamber. Then you must survive MONSTER MULTIBALL and get to the Church!

I've been sick for the last 2 months, so progress on getting this done has been SLOW... but I finally have the Grand Hotel levels completed!

I also included a new MONSTER MULTIBALL mode. This is a bit different in that you are trying to "escape" the 5 ball multiball mode. If you drain to only 1 ball left, the game will continue to feed you 4 more balls! You need to hit the Armless Monster many times, and also evade the Grey Children many times, while also trying not to hit Pyramid Head! He no like that!

I've also added some new random ambient / scary sounds that will go off when you least expect them. If you have a SSF setup... you'll hear creepy things screaming inside your cabinet! If you have a Home Theatre 5.1 / 7.1 setup, then you will hear them all around you!

Next, I will start working on the Hospital levels. This, like the school, will probably end up being pretty big, so we'll see how that turns out. One thing for sure... it will have nurses and be friggin' creepy!

Me voting for "The Room" "Room of Angel" as attract music! 😎

There is so much great Akira music from the series. But yes, Room of Angel is one of my favorites.

Still a few other tables updates to finish before I can get back to work on Silent Hill. The hospital levels alone will be a lot of work.

Hopefully I get my heart surgery soon enough. It keeps getting pushed off.

OK... I'm chalking this up to being "pinball-related".

After so many years of absence, rumors, disappointments, and cancellations of anything Silent Hill related by Konami...

HOLY FRIGGINS SHITTIN' AMAZE-BALLS!

A Silent Hill 2 remake game is coming!

New Silent Hill movie (from the creators of the "first" movie) is coming which is also based on Silent Hill 2

3 other Silent Hill games are coming!

This is pinball related because this is now REALLY going to inspire me to get the Halloween and F-14 Pinevent V2 updates done, so I can get my ass back to working on my Silent Hill pinball game!

As a die-hard Silent Hill "fan"... today's announcements are almost hard to believe being true.

Happy Halloween from Silent Hill

I didn't have time to make a new video for this year's Halloween, so I figured I'd show my video from last year for those who may have never seen it. The table looks very different today compared to this video... but its still fun!

I still haven't been able get back to working on Silent Hill yet. After I'm done updating "Halloween - Big Bloody Mike" and "F-14" for PinEvent V2 and FizX, etc... then I'll be glad to get back to work on Silent Hill. Some newer Future-Pinball-BAM updates and FizX physics will make the table MUCH better than it would have been before.

These new Silent Hill game and movie announcements have got me so damn excited to get back to it!

It's been a very hard year 1.5 years for me (since having my stroke and other things)... but working on (many) table updates and learning so much, creating PinEvent V2, and learning how to use JLou's awesome FizX to change FP physics for the better, has kept me busy while waiting for heart surgery. Well that date is coming very soon.... and the last of the PinEvent V2 updates are finally done!

So, I'm here to say... I'm taking a break...

...from working on anything else....

...except for THIS table... for a long time.... until (hopefully) it's done!

I am SO excited to return to the fog and otherworld of Silent Hill!

Good Luck to you @TerryRed and thank you for all your hard work. It is all amazing. I too can't wait for Silent Hill, and now with all the improvements with FizX, etc Im sure it will be awesome. I hope all goes well with your surgery, and hope you keep us posted with your progress (Health, surgery, etc, Not table). God Bless.

I hated the Hollywood movies, they did not understand much about the storyline and missed the mark.
I mean even team Silent was of the opinion that there was only one person who really understood the storyline (Owaku)
Of course Akira Yamaoka was involved with the movies and has the incredible soundtrack, but he didn't really know all about the story and the 'rules'.
I'm really holding my breath for the movie about James and Mary.

Your pinball looks and feels really amazing.

Hi!  It has been a real honor and pleasure discovering your work.  I just entered the Video Pinball hobby; I put together a small pinball setup with head tracking.  Your tables are mind blowing on it!

Your PinEvent V2 tables are literal gifts!  Thank you!

Love Halloween; creepy dialog from the doctor is awesome.  Upper playfield idea is amazing.  I wish the Round Pumpkin Bumpers would flash longer (alone and together both);  It would help me start the modes.  Looked in script and fiddled a bit, but no luck.

In Sonic Mania, the spin dash move gives the game a whole other dimension of play!  I wish there were another way or two to earn a spin dash.  Love the modes; rewarding to start, proud to win.  Could the individual Chaos gems give a temporary/permanent in game reward?  Or even a reward that rolls over to the next game?  Does the Sonic drawn on the upper right table floor have a weird looking face/nose?  Could just be my angle.

Death Star Run; wow, what a gem amongst gems.  From the funny commercials to breakdancing villains, this is a treat.  I've noticed that something causes a Jawa sound effect; I wish Jawas were on the board somewhere; I love Jawas lol.  The Obiwan Kenobi dialog is on point.  The 'Trust in the force" dialog from Fallen Order in the attract mode was cool.  I didn't see any visuals for the Fallen Order dialog in the pup pack video mode.  Only a still image in the regular backglass I think.  Same case for a Rise of Skywalker dialog I think.

I've only dabbled in the others so far.

Is there any chance we can have a beta test of the Silent Hill?  It looks like a good one!

Silent Hill (PinEvent V2) for Future Pinball - BAM. Update:

Many people know I was working on my Silent Hill table a long ways back. I had to take a long break due to having a stroke / heart surgery, etc. I've returned to working on it... completely redoing most of the table, and adding many cool new features (that I can't show yet).

Well... I finally decided to take the time to learn how to recreate the table in Blender, with the hopes to do some form of texture pre-baking. This is similar to what some newer VP table creators do to create their pre-baked lighting... only in this case FP does most of it's lighting dynamically.... so I want to try to use this for baking in global shadows combined with FP's dynamic lighting, etc.

This game is different than other pinball games, in that it is literally multiple pinball tables in one game. It changes up the playfield / layout as you progress through the game (and changes from foggy world to nightmare Otherworld, etc).

So doing this in Blender makes creating the different playfields and adding / creating the 100s of models I use... a much easier task. (3d editors are so damn nice) I've only got the one main layout done in Blender, but I have at least 8 playfield layouts so far in the game, and more coming. In Blender, there are no inserts or playfield / plastics art yet, as that comes later (it all needs to be redone for each layout).

That said.... dang.... I have to say... I think this is not bad considering this is my first time trying this. There will be much more to the final game than what you see here.

Here's a few test renders in Blender.

Silent Hill (PinEvent V2) for Future Pinball - BAM.

Update 2:

Yay... I got the 2nd playfield and layout for Silent Hill added to Blender. The upper part of the playfield is completely different than the earlier levels, with different wireramps, town buildings, etc.

There are a couple of magnets that can be activated, and you need one of them to make the right ramp shot. You get to the left ramp through the right orbit, but it takes 3 shots to knock down blockers that are hidden in the top which drop you down through the right left lanes of the upper loop. Inserts are already on the real game, but art comes later... once I figure out how exactly I'm going to try to use any baking.

More to come....
