COSMIC GUNFIGHT is classic early-80s Williams: straightforward rules, fast shots, and a layout that emphasizes shot accuracy over deep modes. Beneath the space-western theme, it’s a very traditional shooter from this era.

This release builds on the original scratch build by 32assassin (2016) and the full rebuild by Goldchicco (2021). For my own rebuild, I refreshed many of the visuals—including a new playfield and plastics redrawn by hand for sharper detail and better color accuracy—to match the modern VLM lighting and new material standards. Gameplay-wise, the right orbit is the primary shot on the table. It feeds reliably and sets up most of the available flow. The center drop targets, standups, and saucers make up the bulk of the scoring features, and like many early solid-state games, missed shots tend to send the ball into dangerous territory quickly.

A new Instruction Mode has also been added, accessible through the Player Options menu. This provides basic rule and objective information directly in-game, making it easier for new players to understand the table without referencing external sources.

Fun fact: the original marketing leaned hard into how economical this game was—“Cosmic Gunfight has everything you want in a pinball. And less!

Features include:

  • Updated playfield and plastics redraw
  • Nfozzy physics
  • Fleep mechanical sounds
  • VLM / VPW toolkit enhancements
  • VR Room
  • Desktop & Cabinet modes
  • In-game Instruction Mode via Player Options

Cosmic Gunfight remains a simple but quick and demanding table—easy to pick up, tough to consistently control, and very representative of its era.

PSA: If you are getting sticky flippers, its most likely your B2S. You may need to update VPinMame

Not a game changing update. Just trying to perfect it before everyone sees all my errors. The top left plastic was showing through to the playfield and was distracting. Fixed.

@Mecha_Enron just keeps getting better and better. He picks stuff up quickly and always has a positive attitude. This table is really beautiful, plays great, and is very fun to boot! Congrats, man. Keep up the good work.

Excellent upgrade, plays and looks great. Thank you.

For those playing in a cabinet who are not stretching the table sideways to the full width of the screen and want to get rid of the score showing next to the table: disable EMReels in the backglass settings.

#solved

e0-e3.visible = 0

a0-a6.visible = 0

b-d the same 🫣

Is it possible to hide it with a Script-Change -> xx.visible=0

Running VPX-STANDALONE-MOBILE and have no VPX-Editor to change these Settings else where.

Load the Table in the VPX-Editor

Switch Viewmode (see Example)

It should look similar the 2nd Pic.

Disable or delete EM-Reels

These Pictures are only Examples, not from this Table, so it might see a bit different.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy.

History: almost 13 years ago to the day, one of the best vp9 tables was released by a team of vp table devs. The table:  Cosmic Gunfight

This table was unknown to me and the vp9 release absolutely floored  both me and a friend and I will forever be thankful to Koadic, oldskoolgamer, icpjuggla, Jimmy fingers, Rob046  and the others who contributed to this release.  It so impressed me it put me on a quest to both play the real table and own it. The first came to pass, the second was damn close

This was likely the first vp recreation that made me a fan of a real table I had never played  (considering over my life I’ve likely played over 500 real tables that’s saying something)

I can’t wait to see what you have come up with, especially with modern tools and the great nfozzy physics .

For those unaware , cosmic gunfight has a really deep ruleset for a pin from that era

expect one of my long ass reviews within the next few days.

This is a very large update from the version I had. Great work thank you for this very fun table.

This an extremely good looking version that also plays really well from the (limited) time I've so far spent on it.

I especially appreciate the GI and insert brightness options in the F12 menu, I wish every table included those settings.

The only 'negative' I've encountered is that the bumpers are still active after the game ends, but I've noticed that on other tables as well (I don't think that happens on a real machine, but I'm not sure).

This is a really well done re-creation from you @Mecha_Enron - not at all un-exprected though. From what I've seen in different discord threads. You have a willingness to dig when/if there is something your not happy with and learning to fix it all on your own. Congratulations and thank you very much !

Awesome job on this table, holy crap! The lighting in particular stands out since I've just started playing. Those GI and insert brightness settings like the ones in Magic Pixel's Zaccaria Pinball really allow you to dial in the look you want. The table just looks amazing and it's obvious you put in a ton of work. Thanks for sharing!

Top drawer stuff again from @Mecha_Enron! I've played the real deal at shows and your recreation plays as I remember- simple, FAST and fun! Great work all around and thanks to all the team for chipping in to bring this baby to life.

Here's a clean version of @apophis desktop backdrop for those who want to use @hauntfreaks gorgeous b2s. Just use reimport in image manager to replace the existing backdrop.

That's awesome! The art is what originally drew me to the table.

Not sure how but i just had a ball get stuck behind the three round standup targets, it bounced off the far left bumper and got stuck behind them.

It seemed like it bounced off and fell through the plastic horse panel.

Really awesome upgrade, looks and plays great.

Edit, just now saw that the backglass scoring visible in cabinet mode was already fixed, thanks a lot ;)

I see its caused by the the ball hopping and going through the plastic. I will put out a v1.1.2 tonight that has physical walls to prevent that.
