Famous for his sleazy salesman persona and striped suit, he can only be summoned from or banished back to the afterlife by saying his name three times. Desperate to reclaim their house, the Maitlands hire Beetlejuice, a sleazy, chaotic Netherworld spirit who specializes in scaring off the living. The new family's goth, death-obsessed teenage daughter, Lydia, is the only one who can see the ghosts summoning him quickly spirals out of control as he has his own dangerous agenda—which includes escaping the Afterlife by trying to force Lydia to marry him. Years later the Deetz family returns to Winter River following a sudden tragedy. Teenage Astrid is tricked by a local ghost and gets dragged into the Afterlife.
