Hey unclesash, are you guys making a frame for the rgb dmd? And will it be available for purchase? :)

I work with one Guy from the Forum on a very nice CNC made Frame!

This one should be finsihed in the middle from the next Week.

I´m not sure if he wants to sell them, but I think he will.

We will notify you here in the Forum, when they are finsihed.

For these stuff:

According to the writeup and pics, it looks like the board uses microUSB port to talk to the PC (Pinmame) and still requires 5V power from the miniUSB port.  Is there another way to supply 5V to the board, instead of the miniUSB port?  There are 5V and Ground pins on the board, can these be used?

Answer:

microUSB = for Pin2DMD DATA communication (PinMame)

miniUSB = supply the board with 5V DC AND to programm the Board!

Ground pins = are all connected to the ground and can be used

5V Pin = can also be used to supply the board with 5V DC (but be carefull that is really 5V!!!)

When you are able to use the extra PCB:

The miniUSB is not needed any longer, because you can supply the STm32F4 Board with 5V from the breakout board

You need only the microUSB to communicate with the PC (PinMame).

When the Pin2DMD with extra PCB is used in a real CAB, you need NO USB cables at all (after Download the Firmware to the STm32F4)!  B)

I will post some pictures and instructions next week!

:wopic:

I went through the PIN2DMD driver install.  That was fun...  not :)    I  ended up with 2 instances of PIN2DMD device in the device manager.  EDIT:  I did the registry fix and now 1 PIN2DMD device and it is up and running - document updated

Here are some pics of the driver manual install I had to do. Feel free to use any and all, if this is correct.

I love this project for the tech part and DIY aspects. great work!!!

honestly I am more into single colored DMDs, but even being able to change to the original game color is awesome enough.

and it comes way cheaper than what I paid for my segmented DMD.

NEW PCB is here!

check it out :-)

1st PCB is ready!

Works and looks great!

The Board is powered over the MICRO USB! Only 1 Cable to the PC and 1 Ribbon Cable to the DMD!

I will update my Gallery later with some pictures from the PCB.

When you have a good USB port, you  can use a USB Cable it with a maximum length from up to: 10 feet (3m)

More as that, you will need an active USB Cable extension cord.
