About This File

DOF support added by @MauiPunter

New Lighting setup by @hauntfreaks

incl. Full DMD B2S by HauntFreaks, B2S by haggi

Fix for HSScore(1) loading issue.

This is my first table, based on my childhood favourite show, Fireball XL5

I have been making games for many years, but this was the most enjoyable project ever for me. I hope I did Fireball XL5 justice, and managed to convey a feel for the show with 'countdown' hurry ups and show related mission modes.

It's meant to be fun and uplifting, but you can totally blow it up by completing the modes and Wizard mode.

Features:

Full FlexDMD including 2 video games

4 Main modes + Wizard mode/Party Time

2 Multiballs

+ Numerous hidden features

Works with 10.7 & 10.8

Updates:

V1.01 has realistic lighting by hauntfreaks & DOF support by MauiPunter

V1 still has the original '5 year old's bedroom' lighting :)

Come for the pinball, stay for the wonderful music of Barry Gray.

Enjoy!

This is an AMAZING first effort! Incredible original layout, great modes to play, and a ruleset that is deeper than it appears. Prepare to be blown away with the DMD, mini games, table surprises, and so much more!

This is a new developer that created the table from scratch, learning along the way, improving, and bringing a childhood joy to your desktop or cabinet. I recommend the incredible fun this table offers to anyone, it is quite sim[ply a joy to play!

when i was a kid in the 60's I watched Captain Scarlet, which was a stop motion show like this in the US.... so I'm a huge fan of this time period and theme... great job on your first table....
@Sir_RandomI do have a question... did you not want GI in the table??.... if it was added I believe it would up the realism....

Response from the author:

Hi, I'm glad you like the table and genre :)

About the lights, I experimented with the lights early on, and there are still lights in place under all the plastics but I wasn't happy with the effect I was getting, and I had so much else to learn and do that I decided to leave that until last and then I just forgot. I do intend to find a good intensity and apply it to all the lights for an update.

I have anxiously awaited the release of this game since Sir Random first announced he was working on it, but I never expected a first effort of this order.  My only contribution to VP has been a clumsy reskin of the Lost in Space TV series; I certainly never considered learning how to build a complete original table on the first go!

How are we so lucky to be seeing such treasures coming out so often recently?  XL5 is top of the heap for me.  It has such a strong 1960s vibe that the nostalgia factor is off the charts.

We've had the Steed and Peel Avengers TV reskin and Fireball XL5. If someone tackled The Prisoner we would have a mod 60s trifecta.

I can't wait to invite pinball pals to my home to see Sir Random's beautiful game in action; what a perfect way to show off my virtual pinball machine.

Response from the author:

Thanks Dan, I know you're a true fan of the Gerry Anderson shows so I'm really glad you like it :)

It is a very nice original table, it looks great and plays great. Thanks, Sir Random. I installed it on my desktop and on the cabinet, which both run VPX10.8.0 rev 1807, and both run flawlessly. I only had to adjust the POV a little for the cabinet.

Wow, thanks for the lovely pic, very nice cabinet! I'm glad you like the table :)

Salut les artistes!

J'adore votre table. Enorme travail!

This table has become a top 5 all time table. I love XL5, I watch it all the time on my 1956 Admiral TV. When I saw that this was made I didn’t have high hopes because it’s a weird IP but man did this blow me away. Absolutely brilliant.

my only complaint or I guess beg for a fix would be the audio, it’s cranked and the SSF sounds really off. Maybe a future fix :) pretty please? One bug to report would be if you are playing 2 player and you are in a mode you lose it when you drain instead of being able to continue it when you are playing 1 player. Maybe that's the design?

This table is a masterpiece IMO! Everything about it is so well-done and it's super fun to play. I love the music, the little videos that play at the bottom-left, the characters, and the effects! The challenges are surprisingly original and are a blast to accomplish.

I downloaded this table/b2s a couple days ago, but just installed it on my cab this morning.  All I can say is EXCELLENT!  This is so 60's and the music is so corny it's COOL!!  LOVE the table, feel, and game play.  I suggest (as @freakazoidman said earlier) move all of the XL5_ sound files to the BackGlass speakers (I also moved: Chime, M_Intro, M_MBallSnd, and M_Outro to BG too).
Highly recommend this table!!
Now I need to find a Wheel and Loading video for it!

Peace,

Love this table.  It may be a tad too easy (as I put up 4+ Billion points in my first set of games).  Also, I'd like to see some love for us cabinet players, with the videos either on the backglass or in the DMD.  Maybe someone out there can do a puppack for this table?  Out the gate this is an awesome table with room for improvement.

I'm not sure if I ever got to see Fireball XL5, but the more I played it, the more things looked and felt familiar. Either way, I don't know much about it. I enjoyed playing the table though and seeing the different modes and characters. My favourite mode is the Venus multiball with her twist dancing. The music is also great. I wouldn't have known that the theme song was from a TV show if I heard it on the radio as it sounds like a hit from those years. The table and gameplay capture the theme perfectly. Well done, Sir_Random on your first release! I look forward to seeing your next table.

Response from the author:

Thanks for playing, Dan.

The theme actually WAS a hit in the charts, as well as being the theme of a TV show :)

Beyond Fantastic. This Table inspired me to make a New weekly Post "Sermon of the Week" in  my Facebook Group "World of Virtual Pinball" (link in my profile). Congrats on Fantastic Table.

Sermon of the Week!

This Table is a MUST have that became available this week. You would not believe the look, feel, DMD, music the list goes on. Even Hauntfreaks made contributions (v1.01) upon seeing the first version to this Table Masterpiece (lighting). This first Table by Author Sir_Random deserves praise. Don't be left out!!!

Normally I don't get much attention from tables that look like they're from the 60/70s.

In this case it did.

It's good to see someone else in an original daring with videomodes and a special DMD .(I went to that part of code like a sick person first and it was interesting).

Then I read the thread of the process.

Great job here!!! Congratulations and thank you!

Response from the author:

Thanks Jicho, you did a great job on The A-Team too. We took different approaches to the DMD stuff, with similar results.

I love this table! It's real FAB! (Oh, wait. No one said that in that show.  Maybe your next table?  Hint, hint!)

Ok, I watched Smaug play the game and I knew I'd have to have it.  My Saturday mornings were cornflakes and Steve Zodiac!  Real nostalgia!

I downloaded it to my beta-machine, a laptop.  And I could not get the game to work.  I'm having the same problem others are having with it not being able to start the B2SController and the variable highscore not being available.  My beta-machine has the same versions of VPX and FlexDMD as my cab, but, of course, not all the settings are equal.  My laptop doesn't have a DMD and multiple screens, of course.

I loaded it up on my cab, and it fired right up. So I figure there's some issue with the definitions detecting whether it's running cab mode or FS.

All that aside, I bloody love the gameplay!  I've only played a couple of games and haven't gotten it all tuned up for my screen, but this is such a great game. I can't stop playing it!

I've been looking at your code, and I am thoroughly impressed! And, of course, all the artwork and music from the show!  So great!

Thanks for all your great effort!

Response from the author:

Thanks! I wasn't sure how to deal with B2S as I don't have it working on my setup but there is a space in the B2S name that shouldn't be there

It should be like this:

B2SController.B2sName = "FireballXL5"

Hopefully that will fix your laptop issue but I'm glad you have it running on your cab and are having some fun! :)

Wow! Just Wow! When I saw your table on the VPin spreadsheet I had hopes. Little did I know that my hopes would be shattered beyond my expectations. This is the best mix of EM and SS I have experienced to date. Your retro futuristic theme  suits this table perfectly! Such an amazing homage to Gerry Anderson. The UFO music during multi ball made me giggle like child. Awesome!  So much going on the DMD as well. Great mini games!  Shooting the spinner during that "Earth Shield" mode is so satisfying. Best sounding spinner since Taitos"Meteor".  I heard rumors you have  another table up your sleeve. Can´t wait Sir !!

Info to cab  users: Depending on your setup, all or most of the sounds may run though the SSF. I opened Sound Manager (F2) and sent basically all sounds marked XL5 from table to Backglass. That should fix any sound issue.

Response from the author:

Thanks for the lovely review, I'm glad you're enjoying it! :)

& yes, I'm already working on my next table.

I love this, thanks so much, and worked perfectly on my Cab out of the box. I remember this series from when I was a kid so it's extra special. Great music, visuals, and DMD plus the great video games although I've only seen one so far. More practice needed haha. The rules and difficulty are spot on if you ask me, keeps you coming back :)

Great Table :) and this is really your 1st Taböe ? Respect and thank you for sharing.

I have wondered because on my left side is a thicker gray border but everything seems to be the right size on the screen. Playing the Table is great though :) Great sounds too , thank you for everyone that helped as needed too :)

Response from the author:

Thank you. Yes, it's my first table but I have been making other games for many years...
