Ok, so here’s the back story. I stumbled upon a picture of a Williams’ “Mini Golf” table and was intrigued. (I forget exactly how/why I saw it now. I might’ve been browsing IPDB for sports-themed pinball tables and then searching VPU/VPF to see if cool ones I didn’t have were already in VPX). It seemed like a simple enough table, so I had a go at recreating it. Well, since I started, I’ve gotten too busy to work on it. And I was always going to have trouble tracking down a decent 3D model for the golfer (I barely had enough Blender skills to make the flagpoles). So, it was always either going to be a released WIP or a purely personal project. I decided to share it with the hope that someone might be able to take it over the finish line.

Update 1: With JPO’s help, there is now a working backglass (separate download – it should be linked in the sidebar).

Update 2: Thalamus sent me a golfer primitive, which I managed to write code to rotate around. I'm sure someone could do better with his swing mechanics (unless he's shooting dead straight to hole 9, he'll either clip into his clips or split away from his body at the waist). However, it's close enough to how to should actually look that I'm releasing it. I'm still leaving this download marked as a WIP because one of the 2-player modes that I thought was working has broken (or it never worked to begin with) and I'm sure there are a lot of minor improvements someone *could* do. But I'm hopefully done tinkering with it, at least for quite a while.

Some notes about controls and such:

5 – Insert Credit

1 – Start Game

Left Flipper – Hold down to rotate shooter left

Right Flipper – Hold down to rotate shooter right

Left Magna Save – Hard tee off

Right Magna Save – Soft tee off

Plunger – Whatever tee off was done last (I originally had the magna saves select the type and plunger shoot, but I’ve now decided that using the magna saves to shoot is a better idea)

Included in the download:

-        The table (duh)

-        A Tarcisio style wheel

Removing "WIP" from title and tags because I have no plans to edit it any further. Also, it's at a point where it's as good of a recreation as I can manage.

Released

The bug when alternating between players is *hopefully* resolved now. I did not exhaustively test every scenario, (a player running out of balls, etc.) but I played a couple of quick games and it appeared to work - both on desktop and with the backglass going. Anyway, try it out and let me know. No other real changes, so if you only do 1 player or prefer the other 2 player mode, there are no upgrades you'll notice. Thanks. [Another possibly important note, I tested in vpx 10.6 because that's what I currently have on my main computer.]

Thanks to:

CactusDude for Mini Golf (Williams 1964) WIP 1.2 table
JPO for Backglass code
Thalamus for Golfer

I have never seen or played the table before.
The table plays well. The ball could roll a little slower over the playing field.

I am curious if I can manage the nine holes with nine strokes.
At the moment I need eleven.

I play on a screen with Table and B2s
Out of sheer enthusiasm I have tried to adapt the table to my needs.

I hope that the table continues to develop and leaves the WIP area.

Cheers

The result looks like this:

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I USED TO PLAY THIS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD IN ORLANDO ON MAIN STREET WHEN THEY HAD THEIR PENNY ARCADE WHEN I WAS A KID. TAKES ME BACK FOR SURE.

THANK YOU.

I HAVE ENCOUNTERED ONE ISSUE WHERE IT DOES NOT CHANGE/ALTERNATE GOLFER EVEN THOUGH I HAVE CHANGED THE APPROPRIATE ITEM IN THE SCRIPT. ALSO BEYOND THAT IT DOES NOT CHANGE TO THE NEXT HOLE. EVERYTHING JUST STAYS ON PLAYER ONE AND HOLE ONE NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I SINK THE HOLE. THE STROKE COUNT RISES BUT NO HOLE OUT TO THE NEXT HOLE. ANY THOUGHTS?

THIS HAS NOT DAMPENED MY SPIRITS FOR THIS GAME AT ALL.  I HAVE NOT TRIED TO UNLOAD AND RELOAD TO SEE IF IT WILL RESET IT PROPERLY. WILL TRY LATER WHEN I GET HOME.

EITHER WAY I HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS THE TABLE AS MUCH AS I DID AS A KID!

This table is really different and fun!  Thanks very much to everyone involved with it you did a great job.  One issue I have noticed is that if I set it to alternate players it just stick on hole 1 for player one and never allows player 2.  If you leave the code alone player one completes 9 holes then player 2 does 9 as it should.  Any idea why players can't alternate?  Is it just my system?

Response from the author:

If you go into the script for the table, there's a variable you can change:

Quote

'VARIABLE***
Const TwoPlayersAlternate = False 'If True, players alternate holes - If False, Player 1 shoots all holes/balls before Player 2 goes

If you change "False" to "True" you should alternate between Player 1 & 2. Hope this helps.
