  1. Metal Man (Inder 1992) - Loading

    Format: 1080P

This video is made from the game's backglass and yes, more lightning bolts, which is an effect I've been using a lot lately.  They are present in the game's artwork, though, so why not?

For the music, you have two choices:  The main version, which uses a clip from the song "Neverlight" by Tarja.  Or, you can choose the ALT version, which uses music from the game's ROM.  Personally, I picked "Neverlight," but I can understand why others might want the authentic music.

  2. Flicker (Bally 1974) - Loading

    Format: 1080p

I spent way more time that I probably should have trying to figure out who the actors on this backglass were.  I also spent a lot of time trying to figure out if I could use material out of several Looney Tunes cartoons to make the video.  Finally, I settled on using real clips of the most prominent faces that appear.

For the record, the actors and movies I included are (in order of appearance):  W. C. Fields (in You Can't Cheat an Honest Man, 1939), Clark Gable (with Joan Crawford in Strange Cargo, 1940), Joe E. Brown (in The Stolen Jools, 1931), Laurel and Hardy (source unknown, taken from a clip reel), and Mae West (in I'm No Angel, 1933).  The only identification I'm not super confident in is Mae West, but the quote was a great way to end the video and I didn't have any other good guesses, so I kept the clip in.

The rest of the video is animated from the game's backglass and a stock clip of a theatre curtain.

The music is "A Bench in the Park" by Jack Yellen and Milton Ager, as performed in the early Universal musical, King of Jazz, 1931.

I pulled the logo for the game from the game's flyer, as it was a little easier to cut out and prepare for use, but it's not an exact match for the version on the backglass.  The "by Stern" and the picture of the woman come from the backglass.  The audio is taken from a sample of the game's ROM plus the intro to "Amulet" by a group called Seawitch.

I never played this game back in the 1980s, but it triggers a weird sense of nostalgia for me because the artwork feels like playing D&D back then, or at least reading Dragon magazine.

This video is built from the game's backglass.  The audio is Bach's Fugue in G minor BWV 578, played by an organist named Ton Koopman, plus two audio samples from the game's ROM.

This video is built from the game's art plus some stock footage plus some compositing that is probably more complicated than is necessary given that I am a DaVinci Resolve hack.  The audio is a stock piece called "Gypsy Stepping."

  10. Target Alpha (Gottlieb 1976)

Whaddaya know, I've now made a loading video for every EM version of this table that Gottlieb made.  The only one I have left is the SS machine "El Dorado, City of Gold", which based on my current rate of progress through my list. is months away (it's 89th!).  So if someone else wants to make one, that won't break my heart.

This video is built from the game's logo and a simple background I put together that matches the style of the backglass.  The audio is stock sound effects plus an AI voice from aivoicegenerator.com.

  11. Torpedo Alley (Data East 1988)

This is a fantasy loading video, based on my wish that the art on this game wasn't so lame.  While the logo is actually the game's logo, the audio and video are from the 1981 film "Das Boot", which would have made for a much better game theme, except maybe for the fact that it is a WW2 movie that is told from the perspective of the Germans.

This video uses the logo from the game's backglass, but the picture of the man and the transport pad comes from the game's instruction manual, which explains the weird texturing.  What can I say, maybe reintegration isn't entirely complete.  The audio is taken entire from samples of the game's ROM.

  16. Meteor (Stern 1979) - Loading

    Format: 1080p

The video is built from a few elements of the game's backglass.  The rest is stock video and footage from a starfield generator that is set up to mimic the early evening sky over the US on December 8, 2022.  I didn't realize the professional video editors used this kind of tool, but I guess it makes sense because otherwise you might have Neil Degrasse Tyson talking crap about your movie because the night sky is anachronous.  I did turn up the brightness-to-magnitude knob so you could see a lot more stars, though.  Come at me, Dr. Tyson!

The audio is made from a sample of the game's coin insert sound and the music track is "Beyond the Stars" by Meteor.

I really wanted to make this video mirror the one I previous did for the original Fireball pinball, but the demon's pose made this too hard to do in a convincing way.  So instead, I used 2 animated fireballs and some background video.  The logo and audio snippet are from the game.

This is another game whose artwork is hard to animate in any interesting way.  So I built the video from stock video and audio and used only the logo from the game.

It was difficult to find a way to animate the art from this game due to the aspect ratio, so I opted to use stock video instead.  The logo is the only asset taken directly from the game..

You have a choice of two versions of this video, the difference being which audio track you prefer.  The main version uses music from the game itself.  The alt version uses a metal remix by Cory Thunderlick of M.I.A.'s "Bad Girls".  The alt version isn't very true to the game, but it is the version I chose to put on my own cabinet.
