Starting to work on a Serum colorization for both Grease and Elvis since they utilize the same ROM..

Working on the "Common" frames first (service menu, volume, etc..) but do have a couple tailored ideas for each alt color alias version of the rom.

Stay tuned..

Great to see this happening.  Let me know if you need any testing done as I have Grease with the music (I own the CD) and the pup pack (in French).  I need to remake the pup in English sometime.  :)

Will do..  It's still really early.. I think I have completed most the dump ( I still do spot random dumps every so often).

Since I'm  tackling 2 colorizations at once, First I need to take care of the common frames/sequences that would be the same for both (service menu etc.) so there isn't much to show at this point towards a specific version of Elvis/Grease.   I have tried a few spot frames to test new features (like image import) of the colorizing tool as @zedrummer releases them.

Here are a couple spot frame tests from Elvis "See See Rider" sequence WITHOUT cleanup done to them at this point that I took a couple of days ago.

Frames are not exactly a 1:1 frame match, might be probably a frame off by 1 or 2 or I may be high/low/left/right by a pixel or 2.. was a quick test as I am not actually working on these sequences yet.

However, it will give the Elvis fans an Idea of what to expect and where it could end up going when all is said and done.

And a common sequence (when you just have to get away from dumping ALL the service menu frames combinations/ switches/ DR tool, etc..)  for sanity purposes.

My spare time that I can put towards this effort has been on the capture/dump side of things mostly at this point.

Again, not much effort here towards this and will likely change..  but starting with the idea of Elvis object being collecting gold records, what frames/sequences could work well gold themed.

Thanks for the feedback all.. Here is another teaser from the last couple evenings working on common sequences for both colorizations..

Elvis Video Mode (DDR).. about 50 frames (Random and out of order, but gives an idea of where I am going with it) out of 2,200 current..    I'm guessing another 1000 or so to capture/dump that I am missing still (Miss/Bad/Good/Great/Perfect) per arrow and in-between for the 3 modes..  I will be visiting this one multiple times till I get them all captured..  😵     I'm not that great at the mini game.. could take awhile..  If any of you all are a master of it Perfect play in all 3 modes.. please feel free to capture/dump, heck.. don't even have to be a master at it.. just the more captures I can import and filter, the quicker it would go...   It would be greatly appreciated and It can save me TONS of time.  If not, no worries..  I'll get there eventually...  as I am getting PLENTY of practice at it.. LoL

Anyways..  Sick of DDR for the last few days.. Moving on the the next sequence.

I am working on a new pup for Grease.  It will be triggered by some pupframes and some switches.  I may use some of the lights to determine events as well.  Grease fans will enjoy this one.

It may be good if we coordinate which songs from Grease are replacing which ones from Elvis.

I have started putting clips together for video mode.  Already have about 50+.

I'm also doing cleanup to the playfield as the current one is in need of some TLC (looks rough in some areas of the PNG) and converting files to WEBP where it will save room, but not lose quality.

I will have music and video from the movie, including background music playing between modes, so it won't be like the current table where one of eight songs is always playing, but will be abridged (30 sec+) video sequences of the songs and not the full sequence.

Game starts with "See See Rider" which I am changing to start the opening animation of "Grease" playing instead as this will get people into the game and serves as a nice "Welcome!".

I think the modes should be replaced as follows:

  1. Hound Dog --> Hound Dog
    • Keep the song the same and use footage of dancing.  Not much to be said about this as it is an "All Switches" score mode with some advancement.
    • Thinking of changing this over to "Rock N' Roll is Here to Stay" or another song and updating the Hound Dog to be a Radio like the one in the opening animation of the movie.

  2. Heartbreak Hotel -->  Greased Lightning
    • Start it from the Garage/Hotel
    • 3-ball multiball
  3. Blue Suede Shoes -->  You're the One That I Want
    • haven't figured this out yet.

  4. All Shook Up --> We Go Together
    • Need to replace inserts on playfield

  5. Jailhouse Rock --> Hand Jive
    • 3-ball multiball mode, frantic, and reminds me of the dance scene with Danny & Sandy dancing then Cha-Cha comes in...
    • It starts at the Rydell High School saucer.
    • Instead of spelling "J-A-I-L-B-R-E-A-K" using the white targets, maybe spell "H-A-N-D- -J-I-V-E" to light Super Jackpot

Music that will play between songs will be there in the background (not loud) such as:

  • Grease (without video after the first time)
  • Rock N' Roll Party Queen
  • Freddy My Love
  • Those Magic Changes
  • Sandy (Stranded at a Drive-In)
  • Beauty School Drop-Out
  • Rock N' Roll is Here to Stay  (or) Hound Dog   --- depending on what happens with that song.

Still finalizing the above list, so tell me if any of these seem bad to include or if I am missing anything that should be in.

I'm going with laying out the pup as follows:

Backglass images/short looped videos (working on a few different ones so they will randomly change between games)

Backglass/Full DMD song videos (with audio)

Backglass/Full DMD clips based on playfield action (some with audio, some without)

PUP overlay for Backglass

Separate Full DMD background (for separate screen if using Backglass for all videos/images)

PUP overlay for Full DMD

This is where I am currently at and this takes a LOT of work and time, so please be patient as it should be well worth it.

  • 2 weeks later...

For the Elvis fans, Thought I'd drop some more progress on you all, since it has been a few weeks..

Couple still shots, couple turned into animated gifs...(again, frames may be partially out of order from what they would be in game, I'm lazy), but you will get the idea of what is happening, and a couple with source comparison..

I'm still capturing/dumping as I go.. each dump has less and less new frames as expected :)

Hoping to soon split the project into 2 and start the Grease Coloring as well.  Hopefully by end of the month (If not bogged down with RL day to day stuff).

Cheers!
