Hi Freezy, I don't know if I'm the only one, but it's not working for me. When I launch a VPX table, the search starts and the backglass appears, but before loading finishes, VPX closes and only the backglass remains (3-screen setup, VPX 10.8, and VPinMAME 3.7). EM tables work fine. I reverted to the previous version and everything went back to normal. Thanks for everything, and have a great day 😁.

You are not alone.    I have reinstalled 2.5 twice.   Thinking I had a bad download.   If I remove the serum.dll and serum64.dll from Vpinmane, my vpx tables using serum crash.      Same result if I am using Setup64 in Vpinmame to test the rom, Setup64 crashes as well.  I can't seem to get any DMDdevice.log update when a crash happens.

Hello, after a few more tests, here is some information. My setup: VPX 10.8.0-2051 (non-GL) and VPinMAME-sc-3.7.0-327 (I also tried version 3.7.0-222). With dmdext 2.4, all files work correctly (pal/vni, pac, crz, cROMc, and cROMc files generated from crz files), except for the newly released Super Mario and Street Fighter (which is to be expected). With dmdext 2.5, only the "serum" files cause VPX to crash (crz, cROMc, cROMc files generated from crz, as well as the new Street Fighter and Super Mario). However, other formats still work fine (pal/vni, pac, and uncolored). I hope this helps. Have a great day.

@freezy I will also provide feedback, On 10.8, all updated files. Everything works 💯.

VPX

Pinball FX

Fx Classic,  all formats, Pac, Pal Vni, crz & cROMc

All work!!  Perfectly. To many people saying its not working. The issue is in your setup. I have it working perfectly across the board. FYI

And yes, with Street Fight ll and Super Mario aswell. No issues.

I'm curious for FX Classic, you've got altcolor working? I agree there's something wrong with my setup there but I have not been able to track it down.

Hey ejvfx, I do,  all 4 formats work perfectly,  you must use dmdext as your renderer, not pupdmdcontrol.

Good news, everything is working properly now; I needed to update C++. The solution was posted in the thread dedicated to the "Super Mario Serum" skin—thanks to @PasteurLUL, @naboodiver, and @KRAKEN. Thanks again to @Freezy for the update, and sorry for the inconvenience 😅.

That's good to hear. I've got VPX and PinballFX working perfectly. There's just something wrong with my FX Classic config. I haven't been able to figure out what the missing link is. No log runs when I run FX Classic which would seem to indicate that dmdext isn't loading but I see a monochrome DMD and my ini seems to control where it renders, etc. Knowing that it should be working will empower me to put a few more hours into trying to debug it.  LOL.

Thank you for the update. I appreciate all the work put into this great program. I have updated to 2.50. When I start any table I receive this entry point error. Once I clear it everything works correctly, even the new serum colorizations20260628_120540.thumb.jpg.10c10094ee5c61c213baac155bb48ec8.jpg. It does not happen with 2.40. I have not been able to figure it out. I have cleared out all old files, updated c++, and ran system scan. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you.

The error message in your screenshot says:

dmdext.exe – Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point _dmiodid64 could not be located in the dynamic link library
C:\Users\Charles\AppData\Local\Temp\Costura\...\libserialport-0.dll

This almost always means that dmdext.exe is loading an incompatible or outdated libserialport-0.dll. In other words, the executable and one of its DLLs do not belong to the same version.

How to fix it

Delete your current dmdext installation

Remove the entire dmdext folder.

Don't keep any old DLL files.

Download a fresh copy

Extract all files from the same dmdext release.

Do not mix files from different versions.

Trying to narrow it down. Only occurs with the 32bit version. Not the 64bit. It works without issue. The search continues. Thanks again for your help.

Quick update, after a few more hours of screwing around I did, indeed, get FX Classic alt-color working. Installed the 32-bit dmdext install inside my Steam FX3 folder, including a link to my altcolor folder (which lives in VPINMAME). Updated and refined my Popper launch script and my ini as well. Now it's working!

I am not having any luck. I am going take a break from it. I have removed all old files, cleaned up all folders, and installed the 2.50 32bit and 64 bit versions. I continue to get the error, but only with the 32bit version, no issues with the 64bit version. When I use the 32bit version I get the error, but if I clear it everything works perfectly. Not sure what could be causing it.

If I install version 2.40, I do not get this error.

the same.

That is good. No Problems with DMDext installation. So it still does not work with 32bit? Do you use Popper? Does it work without?
Did you look onto DMDDevice.log after crashes?

I use PinballX. The error occurs with the 32bit only, whether I use the frontend or standalone. It doesn't completely crash. If I clear the popup everything works correctly.

Here is the Dmddevice log. It does appear to show an issue with pinup writer. I have updated pinup player as well.

If anyone has a Virtual Pinball cabinet and has updated to dmdext 2.5.0 and tables are freezing when launched and causing all sorts of shananigans, be sure you update to Visual C++ x86 & x64 Versions. Always work with a backup when trying these things so you can reverse course if it doesent solve the problem. I spent about 2 hours the other night trying to get it to work with no luck, tried again just by updating Visual C++ x86 & X64 versions and wala it works perefectly on every table I have tried so far.

Make sure you have updated Visual C++ Runtime Environment both x86 and x64 and make sure you have removed the serum files as they included in dmdext 2.5.0

Thanks for the reply Dazza.    Yes with help from @PastorLUL he helped identify that my issue was with Visual C++ needed to be updated.    After that everything fell into place.   I posted the fix also in the Mario Bros Serum thread.    I should have come back here to post as well.
