Hi folks,

Time for a new release of dmdext. A couple of things made it into v2.5.0:

  • Added support for Serum v2.6.0, which has a bunch of new features!
  • Added support for Pixelcade's v2 firmware.
  • Fixed PinballFX3, which is now called PinballFX Classic, so it can find the correct process again (thanks @bhitney).
  • Improved error messages on systems without OpenGL.
  • Fixed black segment DMDs on PinballFX.
  • Added support for static palettes on Future Pinball.
  • Fixed a bug in PinballFX Classic for Serum coloring.

Download as always here. Thanks to @mk47 for continuing Serum support and bug fixes.

Enjoy!

By the way, we've passed ten years since the first release of dmdext. A big thank you to everyone who contributed and kept the software alive even through sometimes difficult times.

To the next ten years!

Thanks so much for the update and congrats on the anniversary. I do have a question about this release. I have downloaded the x84 and the x64 zip files, when unzipping both folders I have the same dmdext.exe file in both of them, where previously the x64 file name was dmdextx64.exe. Is this correct now and they have the same name?

I don't think it was ever shipped as dmdext64.exe, at least not by me. TBH I don't think you need the x86 version anymore these days.

Thanks for the update Freezy!

Just a reminder to everybody that since this DMDEXT update has the most up-to-date Serum dll embedded (Serum v2.6.0), you must remove older Serum.dll and Serum64.dll from your vPinMAME folder.

Thank you for ten years of hard work Freezy! The hundreds and hundreds of hours that are spent by yourself and others into creating and updating critical software for this hobby are hugely appreciated, although often overlooked by many who enjoy the output. Big thanks for everything you do.

Well done and thankyou for your contributions to this wonderful hobby. Whenever I hear of those "10 year anniversary" comments for anything, I often think of the lyrics to that amazing Pink Floyd song "Time" and feel a little reflective and melancholy. Where did that time go?

"Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun"

It seems like FX Classic still wants the x86 version. Is that not true? I've had trouble getting it working.

I installed the 32bit version as well but I have been unsuccessful in getting FX Classic configured properly to work. PinballFX and VPX are working great but Classic is being stubborn.

Hi Freezy, I don't know if I'm the only one, but it's not working for me. When I launch a VPX table, the search starts and the backglass appears, but before loading finishes, VPX closes and only the backglass remains (3-screen setup, VPX 10.8, and VPinMAME 3.7). EM tables work fine. I reverted to the previous version and everything went back to normal. Thanks for everything, and have a great day 😁.

I was having an issue upon first installing.  What I noticed is that if I had an altcolor that was originally a .crz and a .cromc was created using the previous version of DMDext the DMD would not show color.  I deleted the .cromc, left the .crz, relaunched the table and the DMD again was colored.  A new .cromc was created based on new version.  Not sure if that's what your experiencing but it's worth a try - it worked for me.
