Dr. Dude & His Excellent Ray (Bally 1990)

I owned a Dr. Dude for a few years, and I have to say, this looks and plays just like I remember it. Also the Big Shot dude actually bobbles more then the real thing, which in my opinion is cooler. BIG 2 THUMBS UP.

To the guy that didn't like how it drained down the middle so much, that is exactly how the real table plays. I used to hate shooting up the middle for the reflex targets. Probably 90% of the time, if you didn't nudge, you were draining. I saw that you can enable a post in the middle via script in this table. So if you want a better chance of staying in play, enable that.

P.S. Looks super beautiful in VR!!! 

Dr Dude is such a super quirky table. The gameplay though is quite straight-forward but it keeps you on your toes. Wrd1972 with big help from TastyWaps and other VPW members has done a tremendous to have this play as dynamically as it does now. They also did a lot of work on the flashers and lighting and it looks better than ever.

I've been waiting for this one! It's 100% going on my Favorites list, without question. Some observations:

• This is the most up-to-date release of Dr. Dude and his eXcellent Ray (9/15/2023)
• Physics are S-Tier
• Ramp difficulty is exactly where it should be. The range in ball velocity when traversing the ramp is wide, as you would expect in real life
• Textures are beautiful, from the table down to the plastics and toys
• The "pre-multiball skill shot" (light plunge before cradling the right flipper, then shooting the mix master ramp) works as it should. It used to be much easier, where it worked so long as the ball came down. Now you must get it just past the shooter lane gate
• Play it 10.8 Beta 5. It's a much better experience
• Ball image is phenomenal. While I replace it for most games, this is not the case here

As a side-note, Tikimaster is entitled to submit his 4-star review. There is zero reason for concern about a single non-5-star out of 18 reviews "tainting the image" of a release/creator. Reviews are a combination of opinion plus objective analysis; we're not all the same. 

In my opinion, wrd1972's games have been absolute fire. Thanks for your huge contribution to the upper echelon of Visual Pinball tables. 

Great looking and fun table! It's a little more difficult than I like, because I'm admittedly not very good and this table flings the ball straight down the middle on a very regular cadence. 😂

Regardless, it's still addicting and I really love the quirky fun.

Amazing refresh, "Bugs Bunny's Birthday Ball level" (which is one of my fav's)

The physics feel really excellent in this table, very natural. The sounds sound so good, the lighting and the new playfield/plastics/small details all just look great in VR! The previous version was good but this is really next level.

Yep, table has a super quirky style with that typical silly/clowny effect they gave the music on so many tables of this period. I'll never understand why it was so popular with the game designers. Is what it is I guess.

i always had trouble with this game always sdtm type play, till i played this version. Wow awesome graphics and models amazing table sound and i used this b2s and completed the games off perfectly

This has been a favorite of mine since the 90's when I played the real machine at the arcades. Looks glorious and plays almost identical! You did an excellent job, super dudes! Muchas gracias!!!

Somehow, I had missed this table when it was released last week.   What an update.   Plays and looks as good as the best of them.   I will certainly be keeping my eye out for wrd1972's tables going forward.    Well done.  Thank you Thank you!
