Administrators Wildman Posted October 28, 2022 Administrators Posted October 28, 2022 like them or hate them ?.... just curios ... I'm on the fence of making them or just wasting my time personally Im old school what they made they made.. even though some are so lame ..LOL.. when you get the pin its original... what your thoughts on it?
SixOfTwelve Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 (edited) Great question! In almost all of the tables in my collection, I tend to go for the original backglasses, even though (or sometimes precisely because) some may look cheesy. Yes, I'm looking at you, Genesis! There are very rare cases where I prefer an alternate: - The Shadow: dragon44's backglass looks hella stylish and much better than having to look at Alec Baldwin's smug little face the whole time - Monte Carlo: Your own alternate backglass is a great improvement over the original "let's photoshop another face on the blonde girl and turn her into a nightmare straight out of the uncanny valley " design - On some of the modern Stern tables, I might like (for example) the Pro backglass version better altough the table is the Limited Edition - And in a few cases, the backglass is obviously designed for a 16:9 screen and might look too distorted on my 4:3 screen. Sometimes an alternate can be a good solution here. Out of my roughly 400 tables though, maybe ten tables at most have alternate backglasses. Edited October 28, 2022 by SixOfTwelve
Content Provider CactusDude Posted October 29, 2022 Content Provider Posted October 29, 2022 I typically prefer the original, but if I have multiple versions of a table on my setup, I like giving them different backglasses
Dipkid Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 really depends. on golden era 90's tables; OG for sure! but on like 00's Stern etc I'll go with the pro/le/premium I'm feeling the most. (Two I'd like to see someday are the comic book art pro star wars, and the "new" alt translite for MM.)
Tikimaster Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 Depends on the Design. I don't necessarily have to have the original if the alternative is prettier and more functional. Some of my tables use the original, some the alternative. (often made by the grandmaster of backglasses, Sir @Wildman
SmedleyB Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 My vote would be to build backglasses for older tables with the grill mapped to the b2s dmd so you could use screenres.txt to place the b2s dmd area directly beneath the backglass and maintain proper aspect ratio for both glass and grill.
tmpc Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 I like your alternative b2s's and if you take requests, could you make a new b2s for the table Hawkman? This is one of my favorite tables but the b2s to me does not match the table. Thanks for all your work.
NoMention Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 I'll take any backglass that includes the fulldmd feature. Ideally it would try to have the authentic backglass image, even if DMD functionality is being moved to the 3rd screen. Having a 3 screen cab, this is the icing on the cake for me. I've thoroughly enjoyed ALL the fulldmd releases that people have posted on this website. It is a skill that I do not possess and would like to start learning this holiday season. Many thanks to you and all those that have contributed to this amazing hobby!!
Hiylow Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Always Alternative if available as far as the Full DMD versions. 1. It saves hard drive space. 2. Gives cabinet a unique look.
marccy1138 Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 I really like the b2s ones!!!! If all we had was originals with mods for b2s DMD I’d be fine.
HoJo215 Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 (edited) Options are always a plus. Should never really limit them.. On that note I mostly try to go for originals unless the scan is old. Now I'm not familiar with b2s creation but I noticed on some that there is a fantasy option in the settings.. Are there only two? If their multiple, could a b2s be built with multiple screens built in? That way you could flip between them? (premium, pro, le, alt, etc.) Sure the size would be bigger but it would be about the same size as having all 3 or 4 in singles files.. Also I'm not sure if there is a size limit as well.. On another note. I do prefer the 3 screen versions even if it's not authentic, just to have something using the dmd. Your Centaur b2s for example with the logo is excellent. demoric Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Which ever one I like best is the one I use. I've never phycially seen many of these tables so I don't have that desire to make it "Look like it shoulld", just have if look be enjoyable and fun.
Korg82 Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 I've restored a Gorgar with and alternate cabinet decal set and am now doing a Sorcerer with an alternat set. I love modding up pins. Also like new, better technology in my pins like LED lighting and Color DMD's. So ya, I'm into new, cool things. Old is often lame and inferior.
WaRcLaWz Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 I prefer the originals even if they are ugly or cheesy, because it's part of the history and essence of the table.
MauiPunter Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 I love options. Some original backglasses are kinda lame and need an alternative.
RabidUrko Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 (edited) Originals, i like to try and replicate the tables on my cabinet as much as i can. Edited June 2, 2024 by RabidUrko
massico88 Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Hi ,Really good question, On my part, I prefer to have a B2s, if you know what I mean. Like Picture with DMD for score that I can change color or what ever. Some pinballs dont even have B2s, Thats why I say Give us some B2s for all tables !! Please... ( NOT mp4 or pictures ) This question gives us a chance to say the difficulties we have sometimes !!!!! ( Sorry my bad English ) Thank you Thank you.
Supergibson Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I really mix it up. Whichever one I prefer. Sometimes original, sometimes alternates. If I run multiple versions of the same table, I also like to give them different backglasses. I think a lot of people like the choice and I am all for more options and customization, including alternate backglass. So go ahead! Crank out those alternates!
cheese3075 Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 Original all the way. HOWEVER with that being said, the digital world offers more freedom of what can be done. So i tend to download backglasses that look like the oginal but pack in more features, lights, etc!
makmak Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 Whats a backglass? I need my eyes on the playfield
