Excuse my ignorance, but I am still not sure what to buy.  I am currently using a monitor as a DMD on my cabinet.  I am looking for a complete solution to replace my monitor with a DMD display that will not kill the budget.

I see references to controllers, shields etc., but that is all French to me.

I require a colour DMD and a way to hook it up to my PC for Visual Pinball X, Future Pinball and Pinball FX2.

Can someone off me some advice and possibly a photo of a complete all-in-one kit that does not require soldering etc?

Thanks.

Good Morning BamBam.

Your Question is not ignorant, It is just normal.
we have a lot of Threads going on and a lot of Informations everywhere.
Well, for your request is

  1. one Set 1 (all soldered and ready to use)
  2. one 5V DC (5A, 25Watt) Power Supply (or use your PC 5V, when your PC PS has enough Power)
  3. one RGB DMD LED P2.5 Display (P2.5 is the pitch and means 2.5mm distance between each LED from center to center) for a same size DMD as in a real Pinball machine
  4. one micro USB cable (for DATA from PinMame to DMD Controller)
  5. one mini USB for FW Updates on the Controller.
  6. may be one Frame to mount the DMD in your cab (or build your own stuff).
  7. Of course, one license from www.pin2dmd.com

I am really sorry that I don't sell the stuff as a complete package.
The Things that I sell are:

  • Set1 (shield and Controller with preinstalled but NOT activated Pin2DMD Firmware)
  • Frame

I can assist you with my knowledge to Order these things:

  • RGB DMD Display (on www.aliexpress.com)
  • 5V DC Power Supply (ebay or ali)
  • USB Cables (are you sure that you have no cables left in your man cave?!?)

feel free to send me a Private Message when you need more help or when you like to Order something.

regards
Sascha

Nice job.
Don't worry about the resistor network.
It one resistor for every 2pins. You can solder it in how ever you like to.

Cool soldered the resistor packs in, assembled the setup and powered her up!

Shazam! Up she is running, put my key file on and its now registered,

So when do the mode and option buttons come into play? im pressing them and nothing. Only when I press both together to i get a "reset"

Hold the blue button and then trigger the black one next to it, hold the blue one until menu appears on the screen ;) then use menu button to cycle through the different options and option button to cycle through the various options inside the different entries.

I received my pin2dmd few days ago. Thanks again Sascha.

However, I don't know the pinout for the rs232 port.

I'm trying to connect it to the TTL adapter, the adapter is labeled, but not the shield PCB.

Anybody? Sascha? Knows the pinout?

Am I right ?

1 TXD

2 GND

3 RXD

no need for VCC? (Or connect it to the red jumper pin?)

Thanks,

Thomas

You don´t the a TTL adapter with that shield. It already has a max232 onboard.. You just need to connect these 3 pins to a SubD9 connector. pinout of subD9 is

Pin2 - RXD

Pin3 - TXD

Pin5 - GND

Can someone please advise? i cant figure this out after reading through the forums for a couple of hours

Of the packages that uncleSash offers

Its basically

1. controller and/or shield  : 2. with or without soldering  : 3. GODMD output options or not

My application is to replace a 128x32 plasma DMD

If i purchase the 2x (64x32) displays .. i believe there are set up in relay mode. as a result do i need the controller?

Also on the soldering.. all i can find reference to is;

  1. some resistors but not sure why or where they are too be soldered to
  2. a missing 5v link on the shield board

Can someone please reply with some pasted links or direct advice

Thanks

On a virtual pincab or a real pinball machine?

Either way you need the controller and shield.

Are those the dimensions of the frames I got from you? If so I can say they are not quite correct spacing for real pinballs. every one I have installed is off. the width is not wide enough. 380mm is to narrow. I bet you its 15" not 14.9606. you should change that to 381mm
