electricmagma
Hey guys I've been slowly working on my pin here, and meant to make a build log during my progress, but I think I got too lazy... I am almost done here now. It took me a few months to wrap my head around the wiring and what toys to get. its amazing how fast things are changing around here. I started in November, and even then to now is quite a bit different. One of the first things I saw was Zebs 'all in one' solution prototype, so I sent him a message. Turns out he lives 10 minutes away. This really did make things a lot easier for me. I bought a lot of his boards and took advantage of his woodworking stills and equipment. I now had the task of figuring out where my wife would LET me put a table, AND what theme I would use. I play in a band, and one of my band mates started a build at the same time I did. Our last album had artwork commissioned by Ken Kelly (kiss destroyer etc) so we kind of did a rock/paper/scissors for which one of us would do a theme based on that. He won... Here is his mock up: Anyhoo, first things first. The only place my wife would let me put a machine was in a storage area behind a door and wall in my basement. She didn't specify that i wasn't allowed to rip any walls out, so one day while she was out shopping... guess what i did: I ended up working on this until February. and in the meantime, i kept researching the specifics for my cabinet. This came in handy because the Boxing day sales happened during this time, and i picked up a 46' and 32' LCD tv from Best Buy for about $600 bucks.more on that 46" tv laterhere is my progress on the basement: So, Now its time to call up ZEB again and ask about his all in one protype. During his response, he mentioned he made empty cabinets now. PERFECT! got him to do up 2. As luck would have it, i BROKE THE EFFING 46 inch TV when i was taking off the bezel. I had read posts of many others doing something similar. efffing hell.... oh well. i used the TV from here on in as a fabricating tool and went and bought another. The TV fits in the cabinet like a GLOVE
electricmagma
So, Now i have my TV and my Cabinet. Its time to order some stuff, and get cracking. At this point, my wife still thinks i only have 1 46' TV and has no idea what i am about to embark upon. I ordered the Widebody hardware kit, the button kit, the Plunger v2, ipac and ledwiz. While awaiting delivery i started priming and painting. At this point i STILL don't know what i want to theme to be. Turns out that the little space i made FIT the pinball machine perfectly. Would would NEVER know that it was a complete FLUKE! Waiting for the paint to dry, i got VP installed and somewhat working. Still trying to get my head around 3 monitors or 2 monitors and 1 DMD, or just 2 monitors. I went with 3. I pulled out a 15'4 inch laptop monitor that i had kicking around, and bought a inverter kit off of ebay for 20 bucks to power and run it. So, still trying to piece this thing all together, and reading these forums over and over again, i came down to the following:Zebs Ledwiz adaptorZebs ATX Breakout BoardZebs *NEW* Virtual Output kitZebs 5 RGB/Strobe bar and resistor board.Zebs Gear/Shaker combowhile picking that up, had a few beers and picked his brain a bit. Steve's a great guy and very open to suggestions and tips. SHortly there after i got my order for my other stuff. After getting my wires in and my TV in, the plunger wouldn't fit. Had to move it down half an inch. Dang it. There is a small type hair between the leaf switches and the plunger, so i made that work. The lockdown bar and rails fit perfectly as well Zeb gave me a heads up on a place to get some 24V contactors. They were 70 bucks for 10. Picked those us and i was off to the races. I had my kids helping, so this pushed me back and made the process rediculously slow. Installed the light bar At this point i decided it was going to be a Clockwork Orange theme. I had Zeb design me up and CNC a wicked DMD panel Now its time to get the software all working right. At this point , i had Visual Pin working and Pinball X working. Now its time to install DB2S Backglass server and DOF. Put them both in, i could see my toys in DOF Tester.... but now i get a weird error with VP. AAAAGGGG... i did a system restore to a previous date, and BAM.. Computer blue screens when starting ...reloaded everything from scratch... Nice and Clean i guess.anyhoo, here we go.... This video shows the first time a table was run with the toys. The TV is still the one i broke, and the good one is in the box i don't want the potential of anything happening to THAT one. Once i get my glass, i'll decase the second TV http://youtu.be/00LsQlGGIuM
electricmagma
I just need to tweak the software a bit, give the DMD a few more coats of the Silver Metalic paint, and put the artwork on the sides:

electricmagma
haha, yea its funny, the other side of my basement is a home theater with movie posters, so I was thinking of having that theme carry over to the pin.... once I chose CWO and commited, then I remembered just how violent it actually was haven't seen it many many many years

Content Provider freneticamnesic Posted August 18, 2014 Content Provider Share Posted August 18, 2014 Ok that's sweet! You should get a small apron to put between the lockdown bar and TV though so you don't have that gap. That was a very quick build I'm impressed. electricmagma
Thanks!!! oh yea!! The Apron! I forgot that I had to make one of those It took me just as long to figure out where to start, then it did to build it. Definitely couldn't have done it as quick with out the help from Zebulon and his boards and woodwork. and from the countless threads read here. Now to finish up that second table
Peabo
I use a Smart power strip to power on the cabinet when the PC powers on. This is the strip I use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004DZO090/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 When the PC powers on/off the slave outlets do the same. electricmagma
That's a great idea! Thanks Peabo!!. This might work for my TV's as well, as they turn on when power is restored , but won't turn on when a signal is detected.
