This is, how a key looks like.

; the key to decrypt PAC files, in hex.
vni.key =f0ad135937ffa111c60b24d88ebb2e59

No key - no Pac files. I took my key from the old ini in my backup.

I have compared my old ini file with the new one in a text editor. The new ini contains some changes and new entries. So I thought it was safer to just copy my old styles and table-settings into the new ini. Afterwards I was careful to compare the old settings with the new ones. I set all settings I use in the new one. There weren't many, but it took some time, at the end everything works for me now. Serum, Pac files, medieval madness, vni-pal, I have not yet found a colorization that does not work properly.

Ok.  I am an idiot.  I just completely overwrote my ini file.  I am looking in there and I have no vni key specified.   Thank fully I did a backup on Oct 29 so I will recover my old ini.   I will do a diff and try to figure out what to keep.

@freezy I am all set now.  I made the mistake of blowing away my dmddevice.ini file.  I had a backup, thankfully.  I was able to add your new stuff into my existing ini file and all is working again.  Thanks!

Maybe it cuts the path?

In the log:

[serum] No colorization found at C:\vPinball\VisualPinball\VPinMAME\altcolor\mm_10

But the full path is C:\vPinball\VisualPinball\VPinMAME\altcolor\mm_109c

If I rename the folder to mm_10 the color is back...

Edit: Uuuppps ... No, I patched the Table and that changed the name to mm_10 🙂

I have the same problems with many other colourRoms. Many roms work fine but for example Medieval Madness, Bram Stoker's Dracula, CactusCanyon dosen´t work for me now, after the update to version "dmdext-v2.3.0"... 😞

The serum files  i have removed. And a backup from my DMDDEVICE.INI is in use...

Make sure you have a value in your ini file for:

; the key to decrypt PAC files, in hex.

vni.key =f0ad135937ffa111c60b24d88ebb2e59

That solved it for me.

Anyone else having trouble with older versions of VPX ?

With 10.6 or 10.7 this error comes up and the PinDMD3 won't run : No external DMD driver found or DMD driver functions not found

But 10.8 runs fine

Posted

Hello, I have installed dmdext 2.3.0 and deleted the serums, but now the VPW tron table the ball stutters and the dmd continues to display as a normal serum, not in 65K HD. Does anyone know why? How to solve it? Thank you so much.

Sorry guys. My bad.

I went to revert to version 2.2.2 from my backup and realized that I hadn't even put the new 32 bit DmdDevice.dll  into the VPinMame folder at all. Doh!!

But I had put the new 64 bit. So because my 10.6 and 10.7 are 32 bit they wouldn't run, but my 10.8 which is 64 bit ran fine.

All good now except there's still lag on Diner and a few others.

STTNG and Tron look amazing!

Thank you !!! @Tikimaster/MauiPunter/freezy ... it works also for me 🙂 The pac-Colour is back. Great job/great community... best regards from Leipzig/arcade

Any idea why PAC files are working but Serum files are not? I'm pretty sure I correctly followed all of the install instructions but I can't seem to get the gradient Attack from Mars or the new Tron DMDs to show up - I'm just getting the colorized versions of the regular DMDs. Indiana Jones and Tommy are both showing what I'm pretty sure are the PAC files. Any ideas on what I need to do to get the Serum files working? Also, if there's a way to verify that it's the PAC and not the colorized version of the regular DMDs, that would be appreciated. I'm just getting started with the hobby so I'm still learning the basics. Thanks in advance!

Delete the serum dlls in your directory, I guess

I'm not seeing any Serum dlls in the VPinMAME directory - would there be any other places they'd be located and interfering?

Make sure no pal files exist in the altcolor folder(s) where a cRZ file exists. If pac in same folder remove or rename as well

Just checked this too, no PAC or PAL files in my folders for Tron or AFM. Thanks for the ideas!

As @freezy said it's time to look at the dmddevice.log in the vpinball folder (not vpinmame). I just ran Tron and here's my log as an example of a working cRZ and pup.

DmdDevice.log

Thanks for the help! Can you send a link to the instructions for enabling the dmddevice.log? I saw it linked in a thread somewhere but now I can't find it

edit the DmdDevice.log.config in your vpinmame folder with notepad++ or other xml editor and the two bottom lines change from warn to Trace and Info like this

<rules>
    <logger name="*" minlevel="Trace" writeTo="console" />
    <logger name="*" minlevel="Info" writeTo="file" />
  </rules>

Seems as though everything is set up right in the dmddevice.ini file and followed all the instructions from square one.... stumped.... here's the log however....

Trying to run the new STTNG color rom...  No serum, pincolor, etc files.    The new sttng_l7 cRZ file under the same named folder under VPinMAME altcolor.  Any help appreciated, probably something just past the end of my nose I'm not seeing.  VPinMAME also set to Color.  Spent a day pulling hair out and already don't have a lot left.  The "disabling game colorization" raised an eyebrow when colorization is enabled in dmddevice.ini and in VPX.

@Wolfanoz Probably the wrong log, this one is from FlexDMD. If you're running STTNG from VPX you should have one that says game name sttng_something..

No, for some reason it's not displaying the game name.  It is the dmddevice.log as I just looked back through it.  The second time I ran it it said PUPDMDControl.exe up top however.

If you're debugging, try to reproduce it with a minimal setup. Start with VPM's setup.exe, check if colorizations work there. If okay, try it in VPX. If you throw everything at once at it, you'll have a hard time figuring out what's going on.
