The Real" was added to the cartoon's title over a dispute with one of the companies who produced the original Ghostbusters live action movie.
The actor who played Winston in the original Ghostbusters movie auditioned to play the voice of Winston in The Real Ghostbusters but the role was given to former talk show host Asenio Hall.
For a brief time, Slimer had his own cartoon that would follow each Real Ghostbusters episode.
In later episodes of The Real Ghostbusters, Peter was voiced by Dave Coulier who played Uncle Joey on Full House.
