Hello everybody,

i like the PIN2DMD very much and in my Last Action Hero real Pin i have installed and use the colorfiles in progress by Dtatane.

I also have an TOMMY real pin under rework. I would like to install an PIN2DMD also. But i don`t find colorisation for real pin here.

Did anybody do this alright ?

I see the collection files from Lucky1 with standard colorisation for many pins. Did anybody use it in TOMMY and can say how it looks ?

I have to rename the pal file, but there is no fsq file. Where do i get an file like this for TOMMY ?

Thanks in advance and kind regards from Germany

The files in the collection are simple color to shades mappings which don´t need a fsq file. This means all animations use the same colors. FSQ is only needed for advanced colorizations.

How it looks ? Why not just find out yourself. Just copy as pin2dmd.pal to your SD card.

If noone has made a advanced colorization for your pinball machine you can make one yourself with the pin2dmd editor.

Instructions are here https://pin2dmd.com/#5

The first thing you need to do is make a recording of complete gameplay using the pin2dmd.exe tool dump function as described here

https://pin2dmd.com/tool/ Just remove the glass of your pinball machine and roll the ball by hand while recoding the dmd output through USB.

Make sure you use the latest firmware (4.05) before starting your project.

Hey Flens, I am compiling a list of dump files for games not yet coloured. I was wondering if you still have access to Tommy and could possible do some dumps for us in the future?

Thanks!

Hi Janohmat, thanks for your offer. At this stage if you have a real Tommy pinball, you can just dump your game play and upload that. Things to include would be each mode of play, completing a run through the game finishing each mode. A scroll through the adjustments and diagnostics menu, using free play and credits for separate games, having different ball amounts for games (up to the max allowed), showing multiple match screens, the attract mode with a few cycles, replay, video modes, high score entry, and whatever else you can think of.

To start though, you can just either play through the game or take the glass off and manually hit each target/mode to capture everything that way.

If you need help setting the software and hardware just let me know and I can guide you through it.

Thanks!

Hi everybody,

I have just noticed this thread and would like to let you know, that I have finished my Tommy colorization projects very recently (after more than 2 years). As with my spiderman project this was a pure hobby project, so I consider it permanent beta. You can find some animated gifs below. The files for the real pin can be found here:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11dhu3PK8Sg3FBzesEld6-aXXUZFAGeMa?usp=sharing

For virtual (the .pac and the .pal files, however no guarantees, I have only tested it with my real machine):

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1v6BPYducVU9t-aJl6PrIxnx-xpyits7v?usp=sharing

I have used the unofficial Tommy ROM, Mar 17, 2016, CPU 5.0

It is a 64 color project, though I did not make use of the full 64 colors most of the time, but it was more convenient for me like this.

In the middle of the project, I have started to use lcm extensively, which improved the result a lot. Still the video mode was very challenging and is still quite buggy. If somebody wants to give it a try, I can provide the dumps and the sources of the project.  If somebody knows how the 64 color palettes behave in lcm mode, I would be interested, since I could not really figure out, how they overlay. There I stuck to one 16 color palette.

Let me know, what you think.

Cheers

Just letting everyone know a couple of bugs have been fixed (High Score #3 and Diagnostics) and are in final testing. @TNZ has been great to work with and we have seen a very quick turn around for these issues. I'm just waiting for confirmation of the fixes on a real pin. The fixes will also apply for the vpin version. I will let TNZ release the files when he is ready/happy with them.

Thanks!

Edit: Have got confirmation from 1 tester these issue are fixed. Waiting on another and have also sent the files to TNZ.

Hi,

First thanks for the job done on this colorization.

I've just installed a Pin2dmd screen, and sometimes the screen goes blank (it seems it's only appear during Sally Simpson animation must be confirm). Does somebody else have this issue.

Precisions :

Downloaded last version of colorization

Pin2dmd up to date (v4.52)

Testing with internal adapter 12v and external 12v power supply -> same issue

Of course using cpu + display rom V5.0

No issue without SD card with monochrome (or 4 color RGB) or with stock DMD

SD card is new and good quality

Brand new Ribbon Cable between Dmd Controller and Pin2dmd

Any clues are welcome

@Benta65190 @Yvan34, I think that the author, @TNZ has a fix ready for this, as mentioned in the changelog:

Unfortunately the 0.94 update is missing the .pal file (contains a .pac instead), which wont work with the fsq:

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the author is able to find some time to re-upload a working pal file for 0.94 (or school me in where I'm getting things wrong) :)
