wakka Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 Great work dude. V. interesting info that you find Terminal (or FlipperFiend) more reliable than double clicking with, e.g. Twilight Zone. I'll experiment with that, thanks.

You can create .pinmame and subdirectories by opening Terminal and running cd ~/ mkdir .vpinmame cd .vpinmame mkdir altcolor mkdir altsound mkdir cfg mkdir ini mkdir memcard mkdir music mkdir nvram mkdir roms mkdir samples Put your ROM in the roms director and try running the table. If it errors again, try an EM table and see if that will run. I think the newer builds must not do this automatically. Let me know if this fixes it and I'll update the docs. Might drop an issue into their GitHub and see if this is expected behavior or not. Good luck!
CainArg Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 (edited) I will try!!! Thanks for your help! Edited April 16, 2024 by CainArg
mamalos Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Hey folks! First of all (disclaimer), I'm new to virtual pinball, so I know almost nothing about how it works apart from loading some tables and playing them, so please be gentle when explaining stuff, pretend I'm a five year old. Secondly, I compiled virtual pinball X (VPX - v10.8.0 Beta (Rev. 0 (unknown), macos OpenGL 64bits)) on my macbook pro (M1) a few weeks back and I'm using it, but I'm having some cracks in the graphics while playing (all the time). So, the ball movement is by no way smooth, and as I'm running the exact same version on a Windows laptop on the exact same talbes where I have with no issues, I can say that the difference is huge. My OS is 14.5 (23F79) and the kernel version is 23.5.0. I don't know how to see fps or get more info about what's going on in the mac version, as when running the binary it only starts the file browser from where I choose the table. The error I'm getting on all tables in the console is: 2024-07-01 19:41:38.714 ERROR [44606831] [external_log_error@811] MessageBox(): caption=Visual Pinball Error, text=Failed to create the synchronization device. Synchronization switched to adaptive sync. 2024-07-01 19:41:38.715 ERROR [44606831] [RenderDevice::CreateDevice@1169] Failed to create the synchronization device for frame pacing. Synchronization switched to adaptive sync. which might be related. I'm currently only playing with VPX tables that don't need any ROMs. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'm happy to start a new thread, but I thought that continuing this one might make more sense given it's title 😄 .

Here's the binary, a readme with some tips, and a list of tables that work for me on my M1 MacBook Pro. I'm working on a launcher now. Haven't messed with multiscreen setups yet, so my requirements in a launcher are modest. It's at the janky but works stage today. Not quite ready to share, but hopefully n a week or so it'll be GitHub ready. Delivering software is how I make my bones, but I'm literally "downloaded baller installer on my windows box 2 weeks ago" level of VPX experience. My objective is to make a nice launcher for myself for desktop mode, and learn existing Windows VPX esoterica and arcanum... Maybe a year from now I'll have built a VP cabinet I can doc my MacBook Pro into and play just like the Windows kids do. Who's with me? 😃 VPinballX_10.8.0_macos.zip 138.12 MB · 65 downloads Hey there, were you ever able to set this up? This app looks clean and exactly what I'm looking for!

Yeah, I get the same error on 10.13.6 on x64 Intel... Seems to hang while creating window/fullscreen. I read the crash logs, and it may be related to libSC.dylib, which I believe is a system file, or associated with Shader Compile???

The build workflows are published on GitHub (search vp-standalone-builds). Hopefully more will be coming there in a few days. Edit: GitHub doesn't seem to set the execute bit correctly, fixed version attached. Should work on os12 intel machine. VPX_os12_x64.zip 42.01 MB · 34 downloads I am using this on x86_64 Intel Hackintosh... it has correct permissions (unlike my freshly compiled version that will not launch the app (says requires newer macOS). I am on 13.6.6 Ventura... so thought I would be fine. It built fine, and the executable seems to run fine... but it HANGS, just when the fullscreen window should be popping up... exactly the same with this version (OS12_x64), but it is launchable... still hangs at the end. If I use -LessCPUthreads, the machine stays responsive, and the actual executable seems to be doing something extremely slowly (I get one beep during startup). Waited minutes and nothing happens. The only thing this might be is sound output? I've checked everything else? Any help appreciated.
