Building a new Pin2DMD - Not touched it for a while

Hi all, I've had a Pin2DMD for several years that was completely custom using a Chinese STM32F407VGT6 board. It still works great, no issues as such.

 

A friend of mine has decided to build himself a visual pinball machine and asked me to help with a DMD - I was like, sure, I have a spare board, just buy the matrix modules and i'll build you one up - Obviously he has to license it too.

 

However, that was before I realised that V3 boards are now unsupported.  I'm a little confused and very out of the loop but the post here suggests that I can still use an F407VGT6 based board, but the v3 'shield' (pinout) is no longer supported.  

 

To be honest, I don't even remember what version I made, it was back in late 2019, early 2020 so probably V3.

 

So just to get final clarification, can I still run the neucleo-144 firmware on an STM32F407VGT6 and have it work providing I map to the v4 shield pinout?  This is only for Visual pinball so it's a complete no-frills setup.

the Discovery Boards are V3 version and are not supported anymore. You can update your existing and activated Discovery st32f407 board but you can't activate new ones.

You would have to use the nucleo F429 boards and the matching breakout board instead.
