misfit Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 (edited) Hey all - Hoping someone can clue me into what I am missing. I recently upgraded my cabinet to 64-bit, acquired a Meta Quest 2 VR headset, and started my VPVR adventure. Got everything upgraded and working in 64-bit for non-VR; B2S, external DMD, etc. Unfortunately when I play tables in VR I see a backglass, but no DMD. I have tested with the new VPW Big Bang Bar release as well as a couple older tables like Medieval Madness. The DMDs work just fine in non-VR mode, but I get nothing in VR. I have the VR settings to capture both the backglass and external DMD enabled. Not sure what else I am missing. Anyone have any suggestions??? - Visual Pinball GL x64 ver. 10.8.0-775 - VPinMAME x86 & x64 ver. 3.6 - DmdDevice x86 & x64 ver. 2.0 Edited April 5, 2023 by misfit

What are yuou using in your cab for a DMD, Real or LCD? And np, I share what little I know because everyone should experience these wonderful tables in VR

I know the tables I have been attempting to test VR with have the "Use External DMD" table option selected, but I tried to verify just to be sure. Unfortunately, hitting F1 while the table is running in VR doesn't do anything; no menu pops up or anything. Works perfectly fine if running standard VP, just not VPVR. Weird... misfit Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 (edited) If it helps, here are my VPVR settings for both 10.7 and 10.8. And for clarity, I'm running a virtual / LCD DMD + Freezy 2.0 Edited April 11, 2023 by misfit
studly_do_right Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Another way to check it is to run the "Setup.exe" for VPinMAME found in your VPinMAME Folder, click "setup defaults" and make sure "Use External DMD (dll)" is selected there. Other than that you could try another build other than v775, there were issues just before that build with DMDs and after so it couldn't hurt. I am on v925 right now. One last thing, if you are running the "pac" files for color DMDs I have heard of people having issues with their DMDs in VR because of it. Not sure if there was a fix for it though but you could come ask in the Virtual Pinball Group Discord here https://discord.gg/cQaFjdDWdS
andrebiedermann Posted May 12, 2025 Posted May 12, 2025 I have missing DMDs too for 2/3 of the tables. I treid 20 tables. I set "Use External DMD" as default and for the table individually (Vpinmame setup64 -> Test -> selct the rom -> Game options -> Use External DMD -> OK). I have the VR settings to capture both the backglass and external DMD enabled. I tried with "Johnny Mnemonic" with rom "jm_12r". I use a pimax headset with steam VR 2.10.4 / VPX 10.8.1beta(x64) / VPinMAME 3.6 / Freezy 2.3.1 (all latest releases). I am out of ideas what can bee the causeeven with the hiints here. Thanks for any help in advance.
Spacegoogie Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 10.8.1 has this issue with DMD's in VR not showing up. Stick with 10.8.0. 🍻
andrebiedermann Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Spacegoogie, you are my hero. I just tried Johnny Mnemonic and it works with VPX 10.8.0. Thanks a lot.
tomservo6 Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 I'm still having this same issue using 10.8.0, which comes with the baller installer. The DMD's show up using the normal VPinballX64 app. Using the GL64 version for VR leaves the DMD on the desktop behind everything and doesn't show up in the headset. Any solutions to this?
Tilish Posted April 25 Posted April 25 (edited) Same for me, I saw the DMD when i was Alt-Tabbing, but neither on Screen nor in VR. (Windows 10, VPX 10.8.0) First: I'm using Virtual Desktop for PCVR and found out that the Software changes the Resolution of the PC-Monitor when the VR-Set is connected. Problem to catch any windows for the software. To avoid this, open the Virtual-Desktop-App in VR; go to Options/Computers and DEACTIVATE "use optimal resolution" Second: Display Options in Windows - Screen Scale: set it to 100% - that was all i had to do to see the DMD on my PC-screen and i just had to move the window so that it is fully visible on-screen - and even in VR.
