PinDMD v3 and .PAC files

Is the PinDMD 3 compatible with .PAC files for colorization? I have freely running and working with .pal and .vni files, but when I copy over the dmddevice.dll and other files from lucky’s Pin2DMD integration page, then my DMD doesn’t come up. This has me wondering if I’m chasing down something that just isn’t compatible.  For reference, I’ve been following RajoJoey’s guide to get this working.
