The Machine (Bride of Pinbot) Williams 1991 VPW mod

This project was started originally by wrd1972 and iaakki in VPW started to rebuild it to match the correct dimensions.
This is almost a full rebuild as everything had to move and various things were fixed, so that this can support PROC games too (officially there may not be such available as of now).

Other VPW members who helped making this:
fluffhead, Leojreimroc, Fleep, Sixtoe, ClarkKent, rothbauerw, Nestorgian, Rawd, Cyberpez, Bord, Apophis, Wylte, Niwak, RIK, PinStartsDan

Most notable changes by VPW:
 - New table dimensions and new PF scan from ClarkKent
 - Totally new SSF sounds for flips, bumpers and slings edited by Fleep. Recorded from Pinbot by major_drain_pinball
 - Baked lighting for GI and flashers, and all colors can be changed via script options
 - 3D inserts from Flupper and vectorized insert texts
 - New plastics and metal walls primitives
 - Support for Proc games
 - VRRoom with full backglass
 - Updated NF/Roth physics
 - Full change notes at the end of the file

I have no luck with the 103 version.

To shoot the ball, only a very small tolerance let me shoot it across a first barrier (1/3)

If I am able to shoot further, the ball falls of the ramp at the end an dissapears.

I need to restart the game.

But with no success.

Hey guys, i'm so glad that i've found you. I'm spending hours of fun. A little help please, i can't manage to start the game in vr. I assume that it is possible, because others wrote that they do it. I'm playing other titles with my quest 2 but this one only appears on my monitor. No errors, no messages, it just works on my screen. Tnx if somebody will help!

Edit: It looks like now it works flawlessy. No reason why it didn't work before. Tnx anyway

Is anyone able to play this in 64-bit (10.7 or 10.8). It will not load for me. I am able to run it in 32-bit, but this is the only table that I've had this issue so far.

EDIT: It doesn't work on 32 bit either, just loads up and then crashes.

Thanks

I can't get it to run on any version. All my other tables work 😕

Same.  I tried x32 and x64.  It just crashes.  I tried everything I could think of.  It has played before, but it has been awhile since I loaded it.

This is the only table that I now have issues with.  10.8.0 DX rev 1869 x64/32

EDIT:  Opened a ticket on the github.  They pointed it to an issue with the latest pwm code in VPinMAME.  Looks like we need to wait for a fix.

What in the world is causing severe stutter on this table for me? I have every other VPW release (except DieHard) running smooth as can be. And it's not micro stutter, it's jumping, unplayable stutter.

Wrd's original 2.1 table in 10.7, the same.

VPW 1.0.3 in 10.7, the same. I REALLY want to say that this was running smooth when released, in what, 2022? But now it's unplayable.

VPW 1.0.4 in 10.8 RC 5, 64bit, PinMame v3.6.0-1209, the same.

In all versions, I've set lower textures, turned off the flasher options in the script, turned off SolMod, no reflections, ball shadows, any sort of of MXAA, processing, etc., you name it, I've turned it off. Vsync, adaptive sync, no sync, turned off B2s, window mode, exclusive full screen mode, deleted nvram, downloaded fresh versions of all 3... the list goes on. I've tried every trick I can possibly think of that got the other 1,000 tables running, and to no avail.

What could possibly be causing such major stutters that only affect this table? Certainly there are much more intensive tables out there.

Slight edit: As I was typing this I realized the one combination I hadn't tried was Wrd's 2.1 table 10.6. That setup runs smooth as silk. What in the what.

@Irata same problem here, for me it's only The Machine and (of all tables) Surf'n Safari - all versions - with massive stutter.

I posted about this in the VPX8 beta thread over on VPF and got some input from there,  it could be an issue with the betas since for others the tables run fine with VPX6 and/or 7 and stuttering on the beta versions.

Did some tinkering in the table script since the VPX8 diagnostics mention very short timers of 1ms or 10ms on those tables that might lead to stutters, to no avail (but also I have zero experience in table programming and scripting)

For now I'm waiting on an update on either of the tables or in VPX to fix these tables.. sorry to not be able to be of more help.

@IrataI just updated to the latest VPX8 and VPinMAME versions - the VPX8 update didn't change anything but updating to VPinMAME 1227 eliminated the stutter on both The Machine and Surf'n Safari, maybe try this next!

Noice! The update to 1227 fixed my stutter as well. Thanks for the heads up!
