Using laptop for mini-cab: when I close the lid, backglasses won't load/display

Just set up a 2 display mini cab being driven by a laptop. Everything runs great as long as the laptop is open. When I close it, if there is a backglass already displayed, it remains working. But as soon as I switch to another game, or start a game when it is already closed, the backglass fails to load (although the DMD does). Anyone have any ideas?
