NFL Stern tables default team selection not working.

Lately, I've been picking up xenonph's updates of the Stern NFL tables as they come out. However, there's an issue that has not been resolved, at least for me, and it irks me more than it probably should.

 

Each table is themed to a certain NFL team. When starting a game on the NFL table, as seen below, the ROM allows you to select your team. How it's supposed to work is that the default selected team should match the team that table is themed to. Here's an example with the Steelers table:

 

 

This is obviously the correct default team for the Steelers themed table. However, if I then play for example the Eagles table, I get this:

 

 

This is clearly NOT the correct default team for the Eagles table.

 

The readme files have this to say about the issue:

THE ONLY WAY THESE 32 TEAM NVRAM FILES ARE GOING TO WORK CORRECTLY IS IF YOU PLAY THE TABLE IT CAME WITH FIRST, AT LEAST ONCE, AND THEN ALL THE OTHER TABLES WILL WORK CORRECTLY.

 

YOU WILL ONLY NEED TO START THE STARTING TABLE ONCE WITH THE NEW 32 TEAM NVRAM, AND THEN YOU SHOULD BE FINE TO PLAY THE OTHER TABLES WITHOUT WORRY.

 

SO IF YOU GET THE 32 TEAM NVRAM WITH BRONCOS TEAM....START THE BRONCOS TABLE FIRST. THEN YOU CAN PLAY THE OTHER NFL TABLES.
YOU GET THE 32 TEAM NVRAM WITH SEAHAWKS TEAM.....START THE SEAHAWKS TABLE FIRST.

ITS NOT PERFECT BUT IT DOES WORK!!!

 

With this example I overwrote the nvram files with the ones from the Steelers version, then played that one first. As you can clearly see, that did not work. I've also tried this solution, also in the readme files:

If you still have a problem, you can hit the 7 key when game is running, then go to ADJ. then click NFL, then click Starting Team.

 

Use the 8 and 9 keys as arrows to move, and use 7 key to Enter. After you have selected your Team, select quit in the menu, and your new setting will take effect.

 

However, this effects all the other tables as well, meaning I would have to do this for each different themed table I play, which is a pain.

 

In the latest update (4.2) a fix was claimed to have been found and so I started fresh with the 4.2 versions of the tables. But still for me the problem persists.

 

I'm at my wit's end here. Oddly enough, I didn't have this problem with the older versions Sliderpoint (I think) put out. Can someone help me here?
