Fp Vs Bam

Recommended Posts

I thought those who don't know what BAM is should at least see how much it improves the visual experience.

Stock FP (left) and BAM Static Mode (right). You should note that BAM Static Mode is the most basic mode there is in BAM, the possibilities just ramp up from there to insane levels. Static Mode shown below requires no extra hardware. The possibilities for adjustment are crazy high. If you have a PS3 Eye camera kicking around you can use the new PS3 eye mode which tracks your face and adjust the table image as you move. If you have a couple WII remotes along with some IR LED's you can go full 3D on your non 3D TV.

http://ravarcade.pl/ - The software has been revised quite a bit lately so the website isn't 100% up to date.

I don't think there's a topic started here so here's a link for those who like to read page after page of posts. - http://www.gopinball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=3249

Overall the whole table is displayed a thousand times better but here I've pointed out a few of the huge differences.

Problem is, where do you mount the ps3 eye toy where it doesn't look like crap on your cab? Also, I assume you need to use the wii remotes on your head and doesn't the wii remotes have to be synced everytime OS boots?

Wouldnt it be easier to use an xbox Kenetic?  I though i read somewhere that someone is working on that.

Ya, the normal PS3 mode is the simplest by far requiring only one camera. I'm thinking of drilling a hole for the PS3 lens in my speaker panel just below the DMD. I don't think it'll look too bad, many won't even see it there. If you're going the 3D route then two cameras will be required and they will need to be separated from each to form a triangle with your head which will have an IR LED on it. Hiding those isn't gonna happen from I can see. Rav hasn't got the PS3 3D going yet though so things may change, so far 3D is only possible with the WII remotes. I'm perfectly happy with the current PS3 mode though so I may just stick with that.

I thought rav was working on the remote syncing.... I have all the IR LEDs and battery packs and WII remotes sitting here, just haven't been bothered to get it going that way as the other mode is pretty cool. I should try it though.

As for the Kenetic I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later. I thought someone got it working no? too many pages in the threads to go through.

Just a little warning to those already getting PS3 Eyes specifically for 3D purposes using IR LED's. Not an issue for the current non IR PS3 Eye mode.

It has been said that the IR filters will need to be removed from the PS3 eyes to make them work. A link to a video was posted showing how to do it.

I was watching another video from the same guys and they state that there are two different PS3 eyes, one that the filter can be removed and one that cannot. I know many are already getting their Eyes so I would suggest looking at the video and making sure you're getting the right ones if PS3 3D is your goal later on down the road. The one that I picked up was the wrong one :(

Link is below but basically you want the PS3 Eye that has a rounded lens and is all black. Not the one with the flat lens with silver showing through.

Around the 0:27 second mark is where it's explained.

  • 2 weeks later...

I recently got a ps3 can for BAM...got everything working but when I'm using ps3 cam or simple cam modes I get a lot of graphic artifacts when the table shifts. Any reason for this? I thought maybe my settings may not be correct...not sure though....

Has to do with drivers graphicscard.

Turn off (in settings future pinball) the second monitor (backbox) and they're gone.

At least for me that worked.

So that means no backglass for my cab while using BAM? Hmmmm.....not sure if its a good trade off for me. Maybe I will try some olderdrivers before I decide.

this was help for me:

I have nvida driver: Unse the beta from April, Turn Of CPU tweaking, if you have newer cpu (quardcore), limt the cpu speed a little and all works Don't use the latest nvida drivers: I use it with 5200 apu amd 3600 cpu. Ihave set the cpu a lttle less (3400), now it works with bam and sevond monitor. I use the latest Bam but the exe from vers. 25. Its more stabile for me. So bam has no more crash and no artefacts. Good luck
