Pin666 Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 Hi guys! I would like to make my own boot animation, like the one in the example boot.fsq. I’ve never heard of that file extension. Can someone point me in the right direction where to find more info on PIN2DMD boot animations? thanks!

A search for boot.fsq brings up this thread I wasn't even aware of this capability. I followed the thread - imported a gif, dummy keyframed it, and made a boot.fsq. Copied to the micro SD card and it plays, but the colors are not right. It was a 256 color gif. So I reduced it to a 64-color gif and repeated the entire process - colors are still not correct. After the boot gif plays, the colors are correct for the rest of the scenes. Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong, @lucky1?

Or maybe just not a lot of people have tried to use the boot.fsq.
latenite04 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I just went through this last week and had the same issues you're seeing. I had to save the default palette from my main project and import it into the boot project and use those matching colors to color my boot.fsq scene. Before I did that the boot project looked ok in the editor preview but when I loaded it to the pin2dmd it was swapping the colors I had used with the ones in the default palette at the same position. I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to work but that's what I ended up having to do. You could try creating your palette using the Pick Palette from Frame option from a scene on your gif, save that palette, and import it to your main project and make it the default.

Thanks for replying - nice to know that someone else was having the same problem. Good job on figuring out how to make it work, but if I'm understanding you correctly, it's hard to believe that one has to recolor the boot gif with colors from a "foreign" palette. I mean that wouldn't be too difficult with a very simple gif, but for a photographic type gif having 64 colors - good grief! I have to believe we are missing something here.
Content Provider lucky1 Posted May 12, 2021 Content Provider Posted May 12, 2021 As far as I remember best practice was to make a scene with RGB24 colordepth, which does not use any palette.

Still cannot get mine to work. I get an error when I try to "Convert Scene to RGB". I would post the error message but this site apparently doesn't allow attachments to posts anymore.

Can you share the gif and project you are having trouble with somewhere like google drive or dropbox?

If not, send me your gif and let me see if I can get it to work on my system - that way I know I'm doing the process correctly. Perhaps there is some type of compatibility issue with my gif?
Pin666 Posted May 21, 2021 Author Posted May 21, 2021 can someone please tell me how to export to .fsq? I can't find anything in the menus. I have no experience with this editor... Thanks!
latenite04 Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 You have to setup your project with a scene and a keyframe to trigger it. Then you should be able to select File | Export Project (real pin). It will ask you for a filename.pal but it will export a .pal and .fsq file.
