fail pin2dmd

Recommended Posts

I allow myself to create this post because I have a problem with my stern family pinball.

It was on the advice of someone from the forum that I registered to present the topic.

I hope I'm doing it right because I don't know your forum.

Thank you in advance for your tolerance.

I just bought this pinball machine and the screen EVO worked great during 1 week.

So, this morning, i took it out so I could clean the display window, and it hasn't worked since.

It starts up but displays inconsistent messages => look picture attached, flipper display 3 messages only, and then i start game, i see 101.010.101 on screen.

I removed it without unplugging it, it remained placed in the high cabinet, without touching anything on the electronic circuit or other.

I don't understand, can you help me please, what happened? :-(

The PIN2DMD displays only what it is getting from the machine, and that is obviously working.

So this is not a problem of pin2dmd but of your pinball machine.

Maybe try resetting the machine to default helps

For TSPP get the 12v from the auxiliary power at the Molex connector at the front right side of the cabinet or from where Lucky1 suggested. You have 5v there as well but I would not connect to that. I've had lots of people install pin2dmd displays in these games and I always wire up the power harness to use the 12v.

I have seen some strange results if there isn't enough power going to the pin2dmd display so it could be causing some of your issues. Also, if you can't see the menu, pop out the memory card from the display. I think in some cases, the authors didn't worry about the menu so the colour files make it almost impossible to use. I could be wrong but try that.

We found out where the problem was, there was a bad electrical contact on a solder on the stern display board. I did the welds clean and everything is working fine now.

Thanks a lot for your help 🙂

I will then study the change of power supply of the pin2dmd because the work that was done before on this pinball machine is of poor quality.
