PIN2DMD Brick after Firmware Upgrade to 3.05

Hello,

I used to have a working PIN2DMD Discovery Board running 3.01 Firmware. Today I decided to upgrade to 3.05.

Immediately after that the Board does no longer work. The Display stays black apart 2 colored stripes showing up for a brief moment directly after powering on the PC. No PIN2DMD Logo anymore, nothing.

I updated using the SDCard, however I do not get the expected file which says ok. But also no file with .nok. The .upd file itself simply disappears.

I also tried to update using the STL tool. No change.

After HOURS of digging I found the old 3.01 Firmware on Github and tried both above methods to go back to version 3.01. However this also did not change anything.

Do I need to use the DFU Utility? Any other Ideas?

Please help!

All release versions of pin2dmd are here https://github.com/lucky01/PIN2DMD/releases

Did you update your ST-Link firmware on the discovery board as stated here https://pin2dmd.com/installation/ ?

!! Note : Latest Discovery boards MB997D may need a ST-Link firmware update from here
http://www.st.com/content/st_com/en/products/embedded-software/development-tool-software/stsw-link007.html

Simply upload the firmware through USB following instructions under point 1.1 there.

Hello Lucky1

thank you for your quick reply. Yes, I did update the Firmware of the ST-Link but only after the problem appeared.

After updating the firmware, I tried to flash 3.05/3.01 again, but it did not help.

Anything else I could do?

<Please see https://www.flippermarkt.de/community/forum/threads/pin2dmd-update-funktionslos.204699/ for the newest update.>

I will update this threat once the problem is solved.

As promised here is the update.

Turns out my Discovery Board was toast. It would still show as USB Device(s) on both cables, but did not light up the DMD anymore.

I ordered a new one for about 20 Euro, updated the Boards firmware, programmed the PIN2DMD firmware afterwards and now I have it running again!!! Need to re-register though. But  this is still cheaper than replacing the whole thing.

I ordered my replacement here:

Thank you Lucky1! You are awesome!

Happy Christmas! :)

Hi guys, thought I'd post in this tread.

Having troubles with my PIN2DMD. I was on 2.37 and want to update to the latest.

I had downloaded en.stsw-link004.zip and installed it.

Went to,

-target

-program

- opened the latest pin2dmd.bin file that I downloaded

- run it

....and now my pin2dmd is black. All lights are on the boards (so hoping nothing is fried). It was working perfectly before, but just wanted it up to speed with the latest ver.

So after this I went to,

- ST-LINK

-Firmeware update

- proceeded with that, and nothing - still black.

I then came across this thread and I have the MB997D, so I downloaded the above firmware update. Ran that, said it was successful but its still black. Have turned it off and on, no love.

Any help would be much appreciated?

Thanks in advance.

*edit

I've now since rolled back to 2.37 and it works. Nice to know, thankfully still working!

I have STM32F407G, does that mean I need to download V3 STM32F4 Discovery firmware?

Which I downloaded but now says I need a new activation file. Which is almost the same as previous except it has an additional letter at the start of the key. Ideas?
