Powering DIY PIN2DMD

Recommended Posts

This might be a dumb series of questions, so I apologize in advance..

I've been planning to build a very minimal breadboard PIN2DMD using the STM32F429 Nucleo-144 board only for use with Visual Pinball to play around with. From what I've read so far the board doesn't get powered from the USB port used to communicate with Visual Pinball only the one on the ST-Link used to upload the firmware. When using an external power supply to power both the panels and the MCU are there still any chances of drawing too much current from the computer's USB ports like plugging in the USB cable before the power supply?

Thanks
