what is the secret to getting pinball fx3 to work through popper?

is there a video or some instructions on configuring pinball FX 2 and 3 to launch through popper and map the buttons on a cab?  I see some peeps use x360ce but no clear instructions on how to do it.  I have previously  launched them from steam and ran a xpadder mapping prior and that has always worked but now would like to run it through popper.  I have configured them as the instructions for popper state but once the table loads cab buttons will not work, can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thank you in advance.
