cheese3075 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Hello world- Lets say someone was reskinning a ROM based game. Okay, maybe me. Is there any ways of using rom based events? Say coin added or game over. We are using a pup capture, so our Pup and DMD know when things happen. However i want to get this information into the script to then code events or things of this such. Thanks!
Content Provider unclewilly Posted September 3 Content Provider Posted September 3 Depends on the game. Things like add coin would be done in the table keyup/down Sub Gameover it depends on the game some games fave a solenoid that tells when the game is on.

The most powerful route is listening for the sound opcodes emitted by the Rom and link events to that. So depending on the game you could catch game over by the music sound opcode triggered at that time. Also great for identifying mode start/end by listening for certain music or callouts. Check the VPW example table, they have an example in there

Or Is there a tutorial for something like this?

Yes, using the keyup/down, that is something i'm already doing. However it's quite limited. Solenoid, hmm. I suppose checking the wiring diagram may tell me this?? Right now i think i'm leaning towards @deadmanworking sound thing.
