daranus Posted Sunday at 01:27 PM Posted Sunday at 01:27 PM Hey guys. I don't post often so let me preface this by saying thank you. thank you to this community, the devs and the table creators. You have created something for the ages, truly. much love. I had more and more issues with my start game key not working so last night i took another plunge trying to update to one of the 10.8.1 beta builds. After a lot of back and forth (you know how it is), I did manage to find a setup that worked. Awesome! What i noticed is that on some tables especially, it seems like lights are tuned way too strong compared to how they looked before (i have attached an example, theatre of magic 2.4, it is a bit of an older table). Is there any knob i can tune to tone them down or would that entail going into every light one by one adjusting them? Second question: Is there any config I can set so i dont see the errors pop up dialog on opening a table? (every table i opened has tons of errors there). Third question: Is there any config I can set to increase the font size for the f12 menu text? Bonus Feedback from dev to dev: For slider items in the f12 menu, it's not ideal that the slider knob color has the same color as the row highlight color so you cannot see the knob anymore when the row is selected. Excited for the future, beta and renderer improvements look super cool already. Thanks guys, I appreciate you ❤️ 26-08-23_152454.mp4
deadmanworking Posted Sunday at 10:33 PM Posted Sunday at 10:33 PM You're better off using 10.8 stable (2051) with Vpinmame 3.7, none of the older tables are optimized for 10.8.1 beta yet.

I was using that setup before but sadly was not able to get these Start Button stops working issues under control

What it boils down to is, that under some circumstances (to what that is exactly, I am not 100% sure. i googled it and saw other people complaining about it but no solution really), the bound start button (ingame) does not work to start a game anymore (e.g. insert coin still works). one common place it happens is after a game has been played or after having alt tabbed. only solution is closing the application and starting it again. It's an issue that really starts to annoy you as you encounter it again and again
Tikimaster Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Its a per Table setting. In the current realease version you can set it to Zero. You may have to look for that in your Alpha Test Version.
Thalamus Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I hope you read the fine print ... don't install 10.8.1 into the same folder as your working setup. 10.8.x should be kept in their own folder and while it is in beta - I advice you to always extract the downloads into a new folder. That way you can jump between the beta versions easily. During the jump from 10.8 - 10.8.1 will read your older settings and try to "convert" them into new. Might be a bug there, or it might be me and the fact that I when I did this on the cab w/beers I should add ... everything stopped working. I had visitors over so I did not try to resolve it there and then. Know that new settings will be written into %userdata%\roaming\VPinballX folder. If you just exit 10.8.1 and rename or delete that folder you should in theory be back to where you where with 10.8.

I did find that and tried out different values, did not influence that light sadly! 33 minutes ago, Thalamus said: I hope you read the fine print ... don't install 10.8.1 into the same folder as your working setup. 10.8.x should be kept in their own folder and while it is in beta - I advice you to always extract the downloads into a new folder. My Visual Pinball setup is definitely somewhat butchered that's for sure 🥲 Your suggestion would have 100% been the smart move.
Thalamus Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Ok, well, then. If you have no backups at all. All hope is not lost. Just know that VP has gone from using windows registry a lot and over to what windows recommends as of late. What I would do is to zip up your current VP folder ... just to be able to look maybe at what you had at one point. I would make a note of the folder where VP 10.8 was installed. Then I would rename that folder to vp_old or something. Install VP via whatever you did last, update it to 10.8 ... AND this is VERY important. Keep the same folder as before. Since I don't know exactly what you did before. Baller installer or whatever they call that ... or what I recommend. The regular installer from 10.7. This is the way I did my full upgrade from Win7 to Win10. Well, I did have registry backups and everything was working immediately. But, yeah, there is a very high chance that you have to rebind keys like the flippers etc if you don't have any backups at all. Should not take much time though to get back to a working system. Don't experiment with 10.8.x if you are drunk like I was ... or not 100% sure what you're doing. I've written some backup scripts that I used to get back to where I was ... that night. Actually had to go back with not only 10.8.x, but, pinmame too.
