Elmo80 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Hi All, Sorry if this not the right location to post but i couldn't find a technical discussion area. I've been working on a VPX table themed on the 80's Kickboxer movie. Admittedly i used an original table as a donor for the layout and substantially changed most things in the code, including playfield and etc. I'm very surprised by how well its turning out. I'm not the best with computers but my friend Chat GPT has been a big help in understanding everything. I have an issue where i have a Buddha which is a primitive. The gameplay has five targets that are hit and then starts an event where you shoot under the primitive to unlock a multiball, i.e. "shoot the buddha" my goal is to make the Buddha glow at this point until either the shot is successful or the ball is lost which is a cool feature. At this event, I've so far been able to substitute the primitive image from a stone to gold png which looks okay. Also, i've dimmed the general lights but something i'm really struggling with is some stage type lights which are able to "light up" the Buddha. I just don't understand enough of the light functionality to achieve the result i want. I ultimately just get a blob of light either in front or behind the primitive. Can anyone assist or provide some advice? Thanks
therealjazzee Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Apologies, I posted the first message with a User ID i didnt realise i still had on a different computer. Here is my work in progress. Would appreciate any assistance with my quesion above.
Supergibson Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Just seeing this now. Did you ever get help with this? The issue is that the lights in VPX will not light up primitives directly like that, hence the fact that the halo light looks like it slices right through the primitive. You need to edit the primitive's texture to create a lit and unlit version and then change the texture image of the primitive in sync with the light being turned on. That's the simpler way without getting into complex things like VLM and Blender.
Supergibson Posted August 21 Posted August 21 PM me if you have more questions about this. I'd be happy to help.
