dzorbas Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Is this still the proper location to get all of the required and up to date files for the EVO128x16 boards? https://github.com/lucky01/PIN2DMD/tree/master/hardware/EVO128x16 The Zilog MPU listed is the Z84C0006VEG which is showing as obsolete/unavailable on Digikey and Mouser in Canada. Is there an equivalent or replacement for this chip? Or will PCBWay still be able to source this locally in China? Thanks, Dino Z.
Content Provider lucky1 Posted July 6 Content Provider Posted July 6 Some suppliers still seem to have them in stock https://www.digi-electronics.com/en/products/detail/littelfuse/Z84C0006VEG/7659288.html Since it is located in HK pcbway should be able to get them from there.
dzorbas Posted July 6 Author Posted July 6 Thanks. What happens when there is no longer stock on these...? Is there an alternative? I'm sure as the quantities on hand start to dwindle, the price will start to climb, similar to how the STM processors jumped in price during COVID.
Content Provider lucky1 Posted July 6 Content Provider Posted July 6 The Z80 used is based on the original schematics of the data east 128x16 controller from 1991 which obviously is outdated technology. So the answer is the same like with the technology used in our beloved pinball machines. I´m pretty sure we will find a solution when the day comes.
dzorbas Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago It looks like PCBWay was able to find some for me. They told me they were manufactured around 2017. I'm going to assume that isn't an issue given that this chip probably hasn't had a design change in a long time.
