I already have a VP cabinet running great with 10.7. I need to update and upgrade for VR with 10.8 64 bit, and I have all that in hand.

My query is about internet connection going forward. My pincab has never been connected and I don't really want it to be. I know it upsets all the monitor and sound settings with Windows updates..
But if I want to use the headset (when I do get it) for other things, then I am going to need to download some stuffs.

Being totally new to VR, I really don't know how this works.
Is there a way to completely, and I mean 100%, stop Win10 from doing any updates to the system? Registry edits? anything? But still be able to download new titles?

First and foremost, this is currently a pinball only system. Has been since built. But ofc, if I "invest" into a headset I will probably want to try other stuff.
I do have another normal desktop PC that I game on. But it only has an RTX 3070 and won't be as strong as my upgraded pincab (upgrading to around RTX 5070 for VR VPX).
And I cannot afford to upgrade both.

Ah, the best way to play VR Pinball....using your cabinet as a controller (with SSF) :) How are you getting your tables added now to your cab? You didn't mention what headset you would be going with but if it's a Meta Quest 2, 3 or Pro you would need to be online for 30 seconds so you can download the Meta PC App......and then you could take her offline again. To add new tables/Roms etc and to stay offline, you could add them to a USB drive from another computer and then add them that way. You are in for a real treat when you see these tables in VR :) good luck.

I have always downloaded tables on my other pc and come across with a USB stick. Can't I install the Meta app like that also? Ofc, if I wanted to say... play a drivng sim then I can't do that with a USB stick. This is my question really.
I tried a friends Quest 3 over the weekend, and was quite impressed. Room for improvement though as his install was a very quick "chuck it on and see how it goes".
He was still using a standard hard drive, so  loading times were horrendous, and the tables had a shimmery look towards the back. Was using it through Steam app as well, which I hear hits performance. Think it was running at 72 fps with a 10Gb 3080.

I recently had a go on a friends Quest 3  with VPX VR.  It was a rushed thrown together setup, he hasn't tweaked it yet. I was initially impressed  but there were a couple of things I would deffo need to tweak.
First was he was running at 72fps. This seemed smoot but I was hoping for 90fps fixed.  The second thing was that the tables looked shimmery towards the back end of the table. The rails had a glittery look to them. Not something I was keen on.
He was running a Ryzen 5 5600X with an RTX 3080.

I have just bought an RTX 5070 and still have a Ryzen 5 5600. But I am thinking of upgrading to 5800X3d.  I just wondered what AM4 systems you guys might be using while getting 90fps fixed.
I'm guessing 120fps will be just too much of an ask. I really don't want to rebuild on AM5, but I know some will say that is the way forward.

You can set the headset to run at 72, 80, 90 or 120Hz and if you pump up the Render Resolution (as far as your card will allow) and the Pixel Per Display, it should resolve your other issue, see below.....

How to boost Oculus Quest 2/3 or Pro resolution using link Open the Oculus app on your Computer.
Click Devices on the left side of the app.
Click Quest and Touch.
Scroll down to Graphics Preferences.
Here, you can adjust your Refresh Rate and Render Resolution.
Refresh rate: The number of times your Quest 2 screen updates with new images each second. You can set your refresh rate to 72 Hz, 80 Hz, 90 or 120Hz.
Render Resolution: Adjusts the resolution that the app or game you're using is being rendered at. The maximum render resolution you can set is 5408 x 2736.
Improved visuals vs performance
Keep in mind, while increasing your refresh rate and render resolution will result in improved visuals, these adjustments could have a negative impact on overall performance. Even with some of the newest and most powerful GPUs, maxing out values for the render resolution slider with a 90 Hz refresh rate may result in dropped or missing frames, which creates a less smooth in-VR experience, if you wanted more resolution you could grab the "Oculus Debug Tool" in your Oculus software folder and bump up the resolution even more. To do this, adjust the "Pixels Per Display Pixel Override" Setting it at "1" results in 100%, try 1.1 and hit enter, then 1.2 (1.2 means 44% more pixels) and so on until you have issues then back off a bit until everything is smooth. Always launch the Oculus software first, then the Debug Tool and make your settings, then open VPVR. Unfortunately this has to be done every VR session

Many thanks for your help Studly. Plans are well underway. Cab has been upgraded to 5800X3D and an RTX 5070. Didn't want to build again on AM5 platform, so tried to max out AM4. I know it's a cul-de-sac, but it should be good enough for decent VR.

Still got to upgrade to 10.8 @ 64 bit with all the additional programs too. Just making sure 10.7 is smooth as silk before going on. LOL I even got an MX Pro head strap but still not got the headset yet. 😂
